What is Danny's Pet Care?

Danny's Pet Care is a neighborhood pet care business in Northeast Washington, DC. It does three main things: it walks dogs, it visits cats in their homes, and it sends a sitter to stay overnight with pets while their owners are away. Everything happens at the client's home or on walks from it. The company does not describe a boarding facility or a daycare building, and its service pages present in-home care as the alternative to kennels and pet hotels.

The business calls dog walking "our speciality." Its rate card covers short potty breaks, 30- and 60-minute walks, private solo walks, part-time walking plans, evening walks and weekend or holiday walks. Cat care is the second pillar: 30-minute visits that cover the litter box, feeding, fresh water, playtime and brushing, plus bringing in the mail and watering indoor plants. The third is overnight pet sitting from 5:30 pm to 9 am, with a longer "day and night" option.

It is a small local team, not a franchise or an app. The company says it cares for "dogs, cats, senior pets, and others depending on care needs." Dogs and cats are the focus of every price on the site. If you have another kind of animal, call before you assume it is covered.

Who owns Danny's Pet Care?

The site names Daniel R. Durand, known as Danny, as the founder. The team section of the About page lists him as "Founder and CEO," a pet owner and a local resident.

His story, as the company tells it:

  • He grew up in Lima, Peru, where he owned several animals.
  • He moved to the US in 1999, and the home page says he has been in the Washington, DC area since 2000.
  • He worked in the restaurant business for a long time before moving into animal care. The home page says he first got involved in pet care in 2009.
  • He gained experience in the pet care field before launching Danny's Pet Care in his Brookland neighborhood. The site does not give the year the business itself opened.
  • He fosters homeless animals through a local rescue group, and he and his wife share their home with two rescued cats, Fitz and Ziggy.

The site names Danny as the person to talk to for custom quotes, such as longer cat visits or extra services during an overnight stay, and several testimonials describe him at the first meeting.

Is Danny's Pet Care legit?

People ask this before they hand a house key to someone new. Here is what the company publishes that you can check for yourself:

  • A named owner. The site names its founder, Daniel R. Durand, and gives his background.
  • A street address and a phone line. 3131 Newton St NE, Washington, DC 20018, and 202-905-4684 appear on every page, along with the email address dannyspetcare@gmail.com and a contact form.
  • Published office hours. Monday to Friday 9 am to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, closed Sunday.
  • A full price list. The Rates page lists every service, add-on, cancellation fee and late fee in dollars, which makes it easy to know what you will pay before you book.
  • Written client paperwork. New clients complete a Client Contract and a Pet Sitting Form, hosted on Jotform and linked from the site's Forms page.
  • A meet-and-greet before any visit. The rates and service-area pages say every new client books one first.
  • Client testimonials. The Testimonials page shows comments from about 16 named or initialed clients, and the home page shows two more. These are collected and displayed by the company itself.
  • A privacy policy. It explains what the contact form, client forms and PayPal payments collect, and says the company does not sell personal information.

The site does not publish an insurer, a bonding company or a business license number. If any of those matter to you, ask for them directly (see Insurance, keys and safety).

Services, one by one

The site has separate pages for pet care, dog care, dog walking, cat care, cat feeding, dog sitting and pet sitting. They overlap a lot. Put together, this is the menu:

Dog walking options

Dog walking has the most detailed pricing on the site. The time windows matter, because the price of the same length of walk changes with the time of day and the day of the week.

  • Standard 30-minute walk ($26): weekdays, 10 am to 4 pm. A second dog from the same household adds $10.
  • 60-minute walk ($43): 9 am to 12 pm or 4 pm to 8 pm. Each extra dog adds $5.
  • Private 30-minute walk ($33): 9 am to 12 pm or 4 pm to 8 pm. The rate card describes it as a solo walk "for dogs that don't do well walking with other dogs." That wording suggests a standard walk can include other dogs, so ask how your dog will be walked if that matters to you.
  • 15-minute potty break ($18): 9 am to 4 pm, plus $3 for an extra dog from the same owner.
  • Part-time plans: 30-minute walks once or twice a week, 10 am to 4 pm, are $30 each. 45-minute walks once or twice a week are $35 each, and the rate card says that 9 am to 8 pm window is for "flexible time clients only."
  • Evening walk ($40): 30 minutes between 5 pm and 9 pm for one dog, with feeding included. An extra dog from the same household adds $10.
  • Weekend or holiday walk ($30): 30 minutes, one dog. An extra dog adds $10, and the rate card lists an extra $10 for a holiday walk.
  • Weekend backyard potty break ($20): 10 to 15 minutes in the backyard, plus $3 for an extra dog.
  • Feeding before or after a walk: adds $5, and adding oral or cream medication adds another $5.

On group walks, the dog walking page says the company pairs dogs by temperament and energy level, keeps groups small and supervises closely. On puppies, it describes shorter, more structured walks built around potty breaks, leash practice, gentle exposure to new things and building confidence. On nervous dogs, its dog care pages describe slower, calmer walks with patience and positive reinforcement. These are descriptions of the service; the site does not promise a particular behavior result, and neither do we.

Cat sitting and cat feeding visits

Cat care is the service where the published price covers the most work. A standard 30-minute cat visit is $27 for one cat, with $3 for each additional cat, up to four cats. The rate card lists what is included: scooping the litter box, feeding, changing the water bowl, playtime, brushing, bringing in packages or mail, and watering indoor plants. Visits can happen "anytime during the day," according to the payment section of the Services page.

Other cat options:

  • Short cat visit ($18): 10 to 15 minutes for feeding, refilling water and checking that the cat is OK. The cat feeding page pitches this for cats that "only need basic daily care and monitoring."
  • Extra hours (custom quote): longer visits are quoted by Danny. The company's FAQ post says customized service is currently available for cat sitting only.
  • Medication ($5): pills, liquids, or medication mixed into food. The Cat Care DC page also mentions topical treatments given as directed.
  • Holiday visits: add $15 per visit.

The cat care page says sitters follow your feeding schedule, adapt to each cat's personality, and watch eating, litter box use and behavior, telling you if something seems unusual. Most clients choose one or two visits a day, it says.

The company says it can send updates after each visit. Several testimonials mention text messages and photos from cat visits.

Overnight and in-home pet sitting

For trips, the company offers two levels of in-home sitting. Both are care in your home, not boarding.

Overnight stayDay-and-night sitting
Price$95$125
Hours5:30 pm to 9 am5:30 pm to 9 am, an afternoon walk, then 5:30 pm to 9 am again (15 to 16 hours of care)
IncludedTwo feedings and two walks, potty breaks or playtime; watering indoor plants and greenhousesThree to four potty-break walks or playtime and two feedings; watering indoor and outdoor plants
Additional dog+$20+$50

A few conditions are published alongside these prices:

  • The day-and-night listing says dog sitting is offered "in some areas in NE and NW DC," so check your address first.
  • The Services page says that for pet sitting, a dog "must be well behaved with people" so the sitter can give it proper attention.
  • Both listings say to contact Danny for extra services.
  • The Services page says you must schedule a meet-and-greet using the application form before booking.

How much does Danny's Pet Care cost?

Add-ons: feeding before or after a walk $5; medication $5; same-day emergency booking for a walk or cat visit +$10; holiday cat visits +$15; bringing in mail or packages while you travel $25 (regular clients only).

Example costs from the company's own page:

  • A 30-minute walk every weekday (5 walks): $130 a week.
  • A 30-minute walk every day for a week (7 walks): $182.
  • Three nights of overnight sitting for one dog: $285; for two dogs: $345.
  • One 30-minute cat visit a day for a 5-day trip: $135.

The Rates page also has a cost estimator. It works from weekday prices and notes that holidays, weekends, evenings and add-ons are extra, and that "Danny confirms every booking." Some older service pages say rates depend on walk length, frequency and private versus group walks and invite you to ask for a quote; the Rates page is the company's full published price list.

Does it take pet insurance? Pet insurance generally covers veterinary bills, not walking or sitting, and the site says nothing about it. Expect to pay these rates yourself.

Cancellations, keys and late payment fees

The fee schedule is published in full, which is useful to read before your first booking:

FeeAmount
Same-day cancellation of a walk or cat visit$20 per visit
Cancelling a whole in-home pet sitting booking (listed as "48 hours")45% of the total
Same-day emergency booking+$10
Key return by mail or client pick-upFree
Key return in person$20
Key duplication$10 (free if you provide the key)
Payment 3 days late$10
Payment 1 week late$30
Returned check$40

The 45% cancellation line is the one most worth asking about: confirm how much notice you need to give, and what "48 hours" refers to for your booking, before you pay for a trip.

Where is it, and which areas does it serve?

The office is at 3131 Newton St NE, Washington, DC 20018, in Woodridge, a mostly residential Ward 5 neighborhood on the Maryland line. The company covers four named areas, each with its own page:

  • Woodridge, DC: the "home base" and the neighborhood it covers most.
  • Brookland, DC: next to the Woodridge office and, the company says, one of the areas it covers most.
  • Edgewood, DC: just across the Metropolitan Branch Trail from Brookland.
  • Mount Rainier, MD: just over the DC line from Woodridge, and "one of the few Maryland towns" it covers.

The service-areas page adds that it takes clients in other parts of Northeast DC and some areas of Northwest DC, "depending on our walkers' routes and the times you need." Coverage is decided street by street: call 202-905-4684 or send your address, and the company will tell you whether it can help.

Hours. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9 am to 8 pm and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, closed Sunday. Those are the hours for reaching the office; the services themselves run on their own windows, including evening walks until 9 pm, weekend and holiday walks, and overnight stays.

How booking works, step by step

The company describes the same basic path on its rates, service-area and service pages:

  1. Check coverage. Call 202-905-4684 or send a message to confirm the company covers your street and has the times you need.
  2. Fill in the client forms. The Forms page links a Client Contract and a Pet Sitting Form (both on Jotform). The company's FAQ post says they ask for your contact details; your pet's name, description, medical conditions and favorite toys; your veterinarian's name and contact details; any special handling instructions; and consent to give treats and to take your pet to your vet in an emergency.
  3. Meet-and-greet. You book a meet-and-greet so the company can meet your pet and go through your instructions. The dog sitting page describes this as a free consultation. Testimonials describe Danny coming along with the assigned walker or sitter.
  4. Care plan. You share feeding times, walking preferences and instructions, and the company builds a schedule. Its pages say it aims to send a familiar sitter so your pet gets used to one person.
  5. Approval and payment. Once your booking is approved, you can pay online with PayPal on the Services page.
  6. Visits and updates. The company says sitters send notes, photos or texts after visits. One testimonial mentions a notepad left by the door for walk notes.

The company's blog says most pet sitting visits run 30 to 60 minutes depending on the pet, and that most owners are present for the meet-and-greet and then leave a key or lockbox for later visits.

How do you pay?

The Services page has PayPal payment boxes under the heading "If you are approved to book, you can pay here." You pick the service from a drop-down (30-minute walk, 60-minute walk, 30-minute cat visit, extra cat hours, or an overnight stay), and there is an "Other Amount" option for anything else. The privacy policy says you enter payment details with PayPal, not on the Danny's Pet Care site.

The rates FAQ says to "ask Danny about other ways to pay." The fee schedule lists a returned-check fee, so ask whether paying by check is an option for you. Late fees apply after three days ($10) and after a week ($30).

Who are the walkers and sitters?

The About page lists the founder and two team roles without names:

  • Danny: founder and CEO, pet owner, local resident.
  • Pet sitter / dog walker: described as having 3 years of professional pet care, a pet owner and a local resident.
  • Cat sitter / dog sitter: described as having 5+ years of professional pet care.

Individual walkers are named in client testimonials rather than in a published staff list, and the company is hiring: it has pages for pet sitting, dog walking and cat sitting jobs in DC and dog walker jobs in Maryland, plus a hiring application form. That means the person who visits you may change over time. If a consistent sitter matters, ask who would be assigned to you, how long they have worked with the company, and who covers when they are off.

Insurance, keys and safety

These are the questions people most often ask about any pet sitter. Here is what the site does and does not say:

  • Insurance and background checks. The site does not name an insurer or publish policy, bonding or background-check details. If they matter to you, ask Danny's Pet Care directly and ask to see a certificate of insurance before your first visit.
  • Keys. The fee table covers key duplication ($10, free if you supply the key) and key return (free by mail or pick-up, $20 in person). Ask how keys are labeled and stored while the company holds them.
  • Emergencies. The Pet Sitting Form asks for your vet's details and for consent to take your pet to your vet in an emergency. Ask what happens if your vet is closed.
  • Medication. The company gives pills, liquids, medication in food and, per the Cat Care DC page, topical treatments, for $5. Give written instructions from your vet.
  • Behavior. For overnight sitting, the Services page says dogs must be well behaved with people. If your dog is reactive with other dogs, ask for the $33 private walk rather than a standard walk.

This guide is not veterinary advice. For questions about your pet's health, medication or behavior, talk to a licensed veterinarian.

What do clients say?

The Testimonials page shows comments from about 16 clients, and the home page shows two more. We don't rate the business, but the comments the company has chosen to publish describe some common themes:

  • Danny coming to the first meeting with the assigned walker or sitter to learn a pet's routine.
  • Updates by text, photos or written notes after visits.
  • Flexibility to change walk days, add last-minute walks or cover evenings and weekends.
  • Care for senior dogs, timid rescue dogs, a new shelter puppy, and multi-cat households with medication.
  • Long relationships: one client says they have used the walking service for four years, another five.

One published comment also says email replies can be "a little slow," so phone may be the faster way to reach the office. The site does not show a star rating or review count from Google or another platform.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

A good fit if you…

  • Live in Woodridge, Brookland, Edgewood or Mount Rainier, MD, or nearby Northeast DC.
  • Want prices in writing before you book, including cancellation and late fees.
  • Have a cat (or several) that does better at home than in boarding.
  • Need regular weekday walks, or evening and weekend walks.
  • Want an overnight sitter in your home rather than a kennel.
  • Like dealing with a local owner who meets you in person first.

Look elsewhere if you…

  • Live outside Northeast DC, Mount Rainier and the parts of Northwest DC the company covers.
  • Need a boarding facility or daycare where your dog stays away from home.
  • Need a sitter today without a meet-and-greet and paperwork first.
  • Have a dog that isn't comfortable with people and need overnight sitting.
  • Need office support on Sundays.
  • Have an animal other than a dog or cat and the company can't confirm it handles that species.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Do you cover my street, and at the times I need?
  • Will my dog walk alone or with other dogs on a standard walk? How many dogs are in a group?
  • Who would be my regular walker or sitter, and who covers when they are off?
  • Can I see your certificate of insurance? Are your sitters background-checked?
  • How are my keys labeled and stored?
  • What do you do if my pet is sick or injured and I can't be reached?
  • How much notice do I need to cancel an overnight booking without the 45% fee?
  • How will I get updates: text, photos, a written note?
  • Can I pay by a method other than PayPal?
  • Is holiday pricing added to the weekend rate, and which days count as holidays?

How to get started

  1. Read the rate card on the Rates page and estimate your cost.
  2. Call 202-905-4684 (office hours Monday to Friday 9 am to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm) or send a message through the contact page to check your street and times.
  3. Complete the Client Contract and Pet Sitting Form on the Forms page.
  4. Book and attend the meet-and-greet with your pet.
  5. Once approved, schedule visits and pay through PayPal on the Services page, or ask about other ways to pay.
