What is J'adore Custom Pet Beds?

J'adore Custom Pet Beds is a workroom business that sews pet beds to order. It is not a pet store that resells other brands: every bed, cover and accessory on the site is cut and sewn by the company itself, and the home page describes it as "a Kansas City workroom that has handcrafted luxury custom dog beds and cat beds since 2012." It sells online only, through its own website, and ships across the US.

The company's pitch is that a bed can be treated like a piece of upholstered furniture. Its About page says beds are "expertly sewn using industrial machines and bonded upholstery thread," and that bolster beds use channels and zippers on the seat inserts so you can adjust firmness. Every bed has a zippered, removable, machine-washable cover. Name embroidery is free on every bed.

What it sells, in short:

  • Ten bed styles: five bolster beds (Cuddle, Cozy Cuddle, Edgy, Throne, Penthouse) and five cushion beds (Rectangle, Square, Round, Pillow, Cave).
  • Crate covers made to fit your crate.
  • Accessories: two kinds of blanket, a bone-shaped pillow and a bandana, all in the same fabrics.
  • Replacement parts: new covers, new inserts and removable seat covers for beds you already own.
  • Fabric samples at $1.99 each and e-gift cards.

The name comes from the French "j'adore" ("I adore"). The About page says the founder found it while searching for a name for her kitten, whom she eventually named Lilly.

Who owns or runs J'adore?

The site's Terms & Conditions name the legal entity behind the brand: Inspired By Design, LLC dba J'adore Custom Pet Beds. The founder writes the About page and the home page story in the first person but does not give her name in the company's own copy. She says she grew up in her family's furniture upholstery business, learned to sew early, and has a degree in Interior Design.

Her origin story appears in two versions on the site. The About page says that in 2011 she was shopping for a bed for her Pomeranian and couldn't find one that fit her needs. The home page says that in 2012, after bringing home her puppy Miya, she couldn't find a bed that met her standards, "so I made it myself," and that friends and family then asked for their own. Either way, the business grew from one bed into what the company now calls "thousands of custom pet beds."

Many customer reviews shown on the site thank someone named Alisa for help with fabric choices and custom sizes, and one calls her the owner of the shop. The site does not publish a staff list. The home page says beds are "made locally by skilled seamstresses."

Is J'adore Pet Beds legit?

This is a fair question for any small online shop, especially one selling final-sale custom goods. Here is what can be seen on the site:

  • A named legal entity. The terms identify Inspired By Design, LLC as the business behind the brand.
  • Written policies. The site publishes full terms covering shipping, returns, purchase terms and a 1-year limited warranty, plus a guaranteed ship date with a 20% refund if an order ships late.
  • A long track record, by its own account. The company says it has made beds since 2012. The terms page carries a copyright line of 2016 to 2025.
  • Published reviews. The Reviews page showed 5.0 from 950 reviews when we checked. The home page uses larger round figures ("1100+ Reviews" and "5.0 from 1,000+ Reviews"). These reviews are collected and displayed by the company itself.
  • Real customer photos. Each product page has a gallery of customer pets in their beds (22 photos on the Cuddle Bed page), and the site links its Instagram, Facebook, X and Pinterest accounts.
  • Ways to reach a person. Email, a contact form that takes photo attachments up to 50 MB, and an on-site chat, staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Central.

Two things worth knowing: the site does not publish a phone number or a street address, only "Kansas City." And because custom and pre-designed items are final sale, your protection after delivery is the craftsmanship warranty, not a return. If either matters to you, email before ordering and ask.

The ten bed styles, one by one

J'adore groups its beds into bolster beds (raised sides to lean on) and cushion beds (flat pads with no raised edge). Starting prices below are the published prices for the smallest standard size with standard fill.

PillowCushionThe lowest-profile bed: a plush pillow with no edge to climb over; usable on both sidesXXXS 20" x 20" to XXL 52" x 36"$84.99 to $224.99
CaveCushionA cushion with a blanket attached along one edge so pets can burrow under itXS 24" x 20" to L 40" x 32"$194.99 to $359.99

Cuddle Bed. The About page calls the Custom Cuddle Bed the company's signature product line and "an original design." It comes in nine standard sizes (XXS, XS, S, SM, M, ML, L, XL, XXL), with bolster heights of 7" on the smaller sizes, 9" from ML to XL, and 10" on the XXL. Its product page says sizes are measured outside bolster to outside bolster.

Cozy Cuddle. Same idea as the Cuddle but with the front bolster at the same height as the others, so the pet is surrounded on all four sides. The company suggests it for senior dogs and small dogs that like to tuck in.

Edgy. Uses foam rather than fiberfill bolsters, which the company says hold their shape and give a firmer edge. The open front is meant as an easy step-in, for example for older dogs.

Throne. The most enclosed bed. The seat uses fiberfill or 4" memory foam, the sides use high-density foam, and the cover zips around all four sides so the seat insert lifts out. The fleece blanket is sewn on one side and comes off with the cover for washing.

Penthouse. Five bolsters instead of four, which the company says gives a curled-up pet more places to lean.

Rectangle and Square. The company's crate-friendly beds. To fit a crate exactly, you enter the crate's interior dimensions as a custom size. Fill choices include premium fiberfill, 4" memory foam, or 4" or 5" high-density foam, and the band is 3" or 4" high depending on the insert.

Round. A flat round cushion, not a bolster bed. For a round shape with an edge, the company points to the Cozy Cuddle.

Pillow. The least expensive bed and the easiest to move between rooms. Its dimensions are measured seam to seam, so the stuffed bed measures slightly smaller than the listed size.

Cave. The blanket lies over the cushion and is attached along one edge, so a pet can push out from any side.

Cat beds. There's no separate cat line. The company says every bed works for dogs and cats, and that cats tend to like the Cuddle, Round and Cave styles in smaller sizes.

How much does a J'adore bed cost?

These are the prices published on the site when we checked on 19 October 2026. Bed prices are for standard sizes with the standard fill. Custom sizes, fill upgrades, premium fabrics, waterproofing and rush processing add to the price, and those amounts are shown in the design editor as you build the bed. They are not listed on the product pages.

Name embroidery is free on every bed. Premium fabrics cost more: the Fabric Samples page explains that "Premium" means the fabric costs more to source (limited runs, unique patterns, special textures), not that it is higher quality.

Discounts the site publishes:

  • Accessory bundle: 15% off each accessory when you buy it with a bed or crate cover. The discount is applied automatically.
  • Sale items: the On Sale page listed two beds when we checked: a Round Floral Pet Bed at $154.99 (was $179.99) and a Designer Fabrics Pet Bed at $135.99 (was $159.99).
  • Ready To Ship beds are finished beds already in stock, often priced below a new custom bed. The Rectangle page, for example, listed ready-made Rectangle beds from $79.99.
  • Brand ambassador codes give 10% off (see FAQ).

Paying. The terms say a 100% deposit is required on every order, prices are final at the time of purchase, and prices can change without notice. Ground shipping is free in the continental US; outside it, an estimate is shown on the cart page.

Worked example. A Medium Cuddle Bed (28" x 28" x 7") is $224.99 at standard fill. Add a Signature Blanket from $74.99, which drops to about $63.74 with the 15% bundle discount, and a free embroidered name. Upgrades such as memory foam or waterproofing would add to that, and the editor shows the exact total before checkout.

Design Your Own, Signature Styles or Ready To Ship

Each bed style can be bought three ways:

  • Design Your Own: you choose every fabric from 300+ options, the size (standard or custom), fill, embroidery and add-ons. This is the fully custom route.
  • Signature Styles: fabric combinations picked by the J'adore team, such as Farmhouse, Faux Cowhide, Patriotic and Striped collections. The catalog showed 299 Signature Style items across beds, crate covers and accessories when we checked (for example 46 for the Cuddle Bed and 37 for the Rectangle). You still choose the size and add a name, and the company says they offer "the same level of customization" as fully custom beds.
  • Ready To Ship: beds already made and in stock, so there's no made-to-order wait. When we checked, examples included a Prince Cozy Cuddle Bed (18" x 18" x 4") at $99.99, a Sail Away Navy & Red Throne Bed (20" x 20" x 9") at $174.99 and several 36" x 24" faux leather Rectangle beds at $199.99. Stock changes, so check the page.

The choice matters for returns: only Ready To Ship items can be returned. Custom and pre-designed items are final sale (details below).

How designing a bed works, step by step

Ordering happens in an online design editor that shows a live preview of the bed and the price as you go. The company describes it as five steps:

  1. Pick the style and size. Start from one of the ten shapes, then pick a standard size or choose "Custom Size" at the bottom of the size list and type your dimensions.
  2. Choose the fill. Fiberfill ("plush cluster fiber," also called down-alternative) for a softer feel, or memory foam for firmer support. Some styles also offer high-density foam or a sustainable recycled fiberfill.
  3. Choose fabrics. Mix and match from 300+ fabrics, picking separate fabrics for different parts of the bed, or start from a Signature Style.
  4. Personalize it. Add your pet's name or a short phrase. The editor offers 14 font styles and 28 thread colors, and you choose where the embroidery sits.
  5. Add extras. Optional waterproof insert covers, a removable seat cover, and "cover only" if you just want a cover.

Then you add the bed to the cart, where the ship-by date is shown and rush processing can be added. The company says it confirms the ship-by date by email, typically within one business day.

Two notes from the terms: the preview is "for illustrative purposes only," and pattern placement (including centering) is at the workroom's discretion. Screen colors also vary, so the company suggests ordering fabric samples first if color matters. You can also save and share designs, and gift messages can be added in the checkout comments.

Bring your own fabric. The FAQ says the workroom can sew with fabric you supply. Email the fabric, the bed style and the size first.

How to choose a size

Each bed page carries a size guide. The company's method: measure your pet from nose to the base of the tail in the position it usually sleeps in, add a few inches so it can stretch, and match that length to the chart. "When in doubt, size up." Its general guide for the Cuddle Bed sizes:

SizeDimensionsPet weightTypical breeds (company's examples)
X-Small18" x 18" and 22" x 18"Up to 15 lbsMost cats, Chihuahua, Yorkie, Pomeranian, Maltese
Small22" x 22" and 28" x 22"Up to 28 lbsDachshund, Shih Tzu, Pug, French Bulldog, Cavalier King Charles
Medium28" x 28"Up to 35 lbsBeagle, Cocker Spaniel, Miniature Schnauzer, Shetland Sheepdog
Large32" x 28" and 32" x 32"Up to 60 lbsBoxer, English Bulldog, Corgi, Australian Shepherd, Basset Hound
X-Large36" x 28"Up to 70 lbsSmall Labs and Goldens, Husky, Vizsla, Standard Poodle
XX-Large40" x 32"Up to 90 lbsLarge Labs and Goldendoodles, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Doberman

The company calls these weights and breeds "a guide." For bigger dogs, or to fit a specific spot or crate, it recommends the Rectangle Bed in a custom size. Its sizing article adds rules of thumb: add 8 to 12 inches for cushion beds, 5 to 8 inches for bolster beds (the bolsters take up some of the inside), and 4 to 6 inches for smaller pets. Sizes differ by style, so check the table on the page for the bed you want.

Fabrics, fills and what's inside

Fabrics. The site lists more than 300 fabrics, filterable by color, and sells samples at $1.99 each. The range runs from cottons, linens and slub canvases to denim, grain sack stripes, sherpa, micro velvet and faux leather and faux cowhide. The company says it uses faux leather instead of animal hides "out of concern for animal welfare," and that it pre-washes every fabric before cutting to reduce shrinkage. It also says it color-calibrates its monitors to display fabrics accurately, while warning that it can't guarantee your screen shows the true color.

Fills. Depending on the style, the published options are:

  • Premium fiberfill (down-alternative): the standard fill and the softer option.
  • Sustainable fiberfill made from recycled plastic bottles, offered on most styles.
  • 4" memory foam for the seat.
  • 4" or 5" high-density foam on cushion beds such as the Rectangle and Square.
  • Foam bolsters on the Edgy and Throne; fiberfill bolsters on the Cuddle and Cozy Cuddle.

The home page says its foam is CertiPUR-US certified. Inserts come in a muslin cover, and the main fabric cover goes over that.

Construction. The company says it uses upholstery-grade zippers, thread, fabrics and stuffing, and that most materials are sourced locally. Cushion beds have a long wrap-around zipper; bolster and cuddle-style beds have five separate zippers, one per insert, so you can adjust or replace each part.

Waterproofing. Waterproof insert covers are an optional add-on. They sit over the muslin insert covers and under the main fabric cover, so your pet doesn't lie on them. The company says they wipe clean with soap and water and can make the bed feel slightly firmer; with fiberfill you can remove some filling to soften it.

Crate covers and accessories

  • Crate Cover, from $124.99: made to order in your fabrics, with free name embroidery and 16 Signature Style designs.
  • Signature Blanket, from $74.99: a washable blanket sized to drape over a bed or couch, made with your choice of three fabrics. Three sizes.
  • Luxurious Blanket, from $49.99: double-sided, with designer fabric on one side and faux fur on the other. Five sizes.
  • Bone Pillow, from $49.99: a bone-shaped toss pillow in three fabrics of your choice. Eight sizes.
  • Bandana, from $24.99: reversible, cut from the bed fabrics, with the name embroidered free. Eight sizes.

Each accessory is 15% off when bought with a bed or crate cover.

Replacement covers, inserts and seat covers

Because the covers zip off, J'adore sells parts so you can refresh a bed instead of replacing it:

  • Replacement covers for all ten shapes, in any current fabric, with optional embroidery. The editor opens in "Cover Only" mode; you pick the size you originally ordered, or measure the insert if unsure. Custom-size beds are covered too.
  • Replacement inserts to restore support when the filling is worn or flattened.
  • Removable seat covers (listed for the Cuddle and Cozy Cuddle) so the seat cushion can be washed on its own.

Covers for another brand's bed may be possible. The company asks you to email the bed's style and measurements first so it can tell you whether it can make one.

How long does it take, and how does shipping work?

Every custom bed is made after you order, so expect a wait. The site gives several figures:

  • The home page says orders ship in 1 to 3 weeks.
  • The Made in the USA page says custom orders typically take 2 to 4 weeks to ship, depending on the month.
  • The exact ship-by date for your order is shown on the cart page and confirmed by email, typically within one business day. That date is the one the guarantee covers.
  • Rush processing is offered on the cart page for an extra fee. The Made in the USA page says rush orders are completed in 2 to 5 business days.

Delivery. Orders ship from Kansas City by UPS Ground or USPS with a tracking number. The terms say most packages arrive in 2 to 3 days once shipped (another page says 1 to 3 business days by UPS Ground). The company does not ship to P.O. boxes.

Free shipping applies in the continental US. Outside it, an estimate appears on the cart page. International orders can ship by USPS or UPS; the company asks you to email info@jadorepetbeds.com first, and duties and taxes are not included in the shipping rate.

Undeliverable packages. If a package comes back as unclaimed or undeliverable, you pay for the return delivery. The company holds the bed for 30 days, and custom beds returned that way are not refunded.

Gift wrapping is included: the FAQ says beds arrive wrapped with a bow, hang tag and treat bag, and you can add a gift message at checkout.

Warranty, returns and the ship-date guarantee

Returns. Custom and pre-designed products are final sale. Only Ready To Ship products can be returned or exchanged, and only if:

  • you email customer service within 7 days of delivery to get a return authorization,
  • the item comes back unused, in its original packaging, within 21 days of delivery,
  • you pay return shipping, and
  • you accept a 20% restocking fee.

1-year limited warranty. Every product carries a warranty against defects in craftsmanship, starting on the date it ships. J'adore will repair or replace a covered item, limited to one warranty replacement per purchase. It does not offer refunds or exchanges under the warranty. The warranty does not cover:

  • fabric fading or shrinkage,
  • visible abuse such as digging, chewing or staining,
  • commercial use, or
  • the standard muslin insert covers (the optional waterproof insert covers are covered).

To make a claim, email a photo and description. Unauthorized returns are not accepted.

Guaranteed ship date. The company guarantees your order leaves the workroom by the confirmed ship-by date, "weather permitting," or you get a 20% refund. If the date has to change, it says it will explain why and give a new date.

Washing and care

The company's care instructions, from its FAQ and product pages:

  • Unzip the cover and take the insert out. Close the zippers before washing.
  • Wash in cold water on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent. Wash only when needed.
  • Line dry. Don't use a dryer: heat can shrink or fade the fabric, and fading and shrinkage are not covered by the warranty.
  • Waterproof insert covers wipe clean with soapy water.

Detailed care instructions are emailed when your bed ships. The company's advice for making a bed last is to stop pets digging, scratching or soiling it, and to wash it regularly.

Sustainability and giving back

The company says a portion of every sale supports KC Pet Project, a no-kill animal shelter in Kansas City. It does not publish the amount.

Its sustainability claims, as the company states them: a recycled-bottle fiberfill option; mostly cotton fabrics; a workshop powered mainly by solar panels with a geothermal heat pump, LED lighting, high-performance windows and wool insulation; and recycling of cardboard, plastics and glass. It is open that it also uses "some non-sustainable materials to balance affordability and durability." Its main argument is durability: replaceable covers and inserts mean you don't have to throw out the whole bed.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

A good fit if you…

  • want a pet bed that matches your furniture or a specific room
  • need an exact size: a crate, a window seat, a cabinet opening, an outdoor swing
  • have a very large or unusually shaped dog that doesn't fit standard beds
  • want the pet's name embroidered on the bed
  • like being able to replace just the cover or insert later
  • care about US-made goods
  • can wait a few weeks, or pay for rush

Look elsewhere if you…

  • need a bed this week and won't pay for rush (check Ready To Ship first, though)
  • want the option of returning a bed you don't like
  • have a pet that chews or digs through beds, since abuse voids the warranty
  • want to talk by phone before buying
  • are buying for a kennel, groomer or other business, since commercial use voids the warranty
  • are on a tight budget

Questions to ask before you order

  • What is the ship-by date for my order right now, and what does rush cost for this bed?
  • Which fill do you suggest for my pet's size and age, and what does the upgrade cost?
  • Is the fabric I like a premium fabric? Can I get a sample first?
  • For a crate or custom space: which measurements do you need, inside or outside?
  • Is the waterproof insert cover worth it for my pet?
  • Can you ship to my address (for P.O. boxes, Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US)?
  • If I'm using my own fabric, how much do you need and where do I send it?

How to get started

  1. Measure your pet as it usually sleeps, and measure the space or crate if the bed has to fit somewhere.
  2. Pick a style: bolster if your pet likes to lean or curl up, cushion if it stretches out.
  3. If color matters, order fabric samples at $1.99 each.
  4. Open Design Your Own (or a Signature Style), set the size, fill, fabrics, embroidery and add-ons, and check the price and ship-by date in the cart.
  5. Email info@jadorepetbeds.com with any question before you pay, since custom orders are final sale.
  6. Watch for the email confirming your ship-by date, usually within one business day.
