What Lunar.dev offers for MCP
MCPX gateway
Lunar's homepage describes MCPX as a self-hosted gateway with an admin-managed MCP catalog. Admins vet tools and "validate risk before rollout." They can harden tool parameters and limit which actions are exposed. Access controls are described as "granular and intent-aware time-bound access."
The Lunar GitHub repository is MIT licensed. It describes MCPX as "a zero-code aggregator for multiple MCP servers with unified API access," next to Lunar Proxy, its API gateway.
Features by area
Lunar's pricing page groups features into four areas:
- MCP management: identity and roles, an MCP registry, skills support, agent and user isolation, usage dashboards, and human approval workflows.
- Agent governance: agent inventory, agent identity, hosted MCP, and intent-based tool use.
- Security: audit trails, MCP risk assessment and sandboxing, secrets integration, shadow MCP detection, tool parameter pinning, and anomaly detection.
- AI gateway: model routing, token budgets and multi-provider support.
The Boomi acquisition
Boomi's announcement says Lunar's capabilities will be "a key component of Boomi Connect," Boomi's managed MCP server offering. It does not mention MCPX by name or say what changes for current customers. Lunar's docs link now redirects to the Boomi AI Gateway overview, which describes an MCP Gateway that can "register multiple MCP servers under one governed endpoint."
Who it's for
Lunar's homepage names three audiences: companies governing employee AI tools, agent builders who want to "control your self-built agents," and security teams. Because MCPX runs inside your own infrastructure, it fits teams that cannot send tool traffic through a vendor cloud. Boomi customers may meet the same technology inside Boomi's platform.
Pricing
The pricing page listed three plans on 28 October 2026, with no dollar amounts:
| Plan | Users | Described as |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Up to 50 | "For individuals and small teams getting started with MCP governance" |
| Pro | Up to 100 | "For growing teams that need security, isolation, and agent controls" |
| Enterprise | Custom | "For organizations requiring governed AI adoption across the full stack" |
The FAQ says the free version has "no time limits." Enterprise adds SSO, a private registry, full audit trails, Vault-based secrets and a risk dashboard. Discounts are offered for annual payment and for education and open-source projects.
Security and trust
Lunar lists private deployment, data loss prevention controls, SSO, roles and "immutable logs of all agent activity in real time." The homepage names no certifications such as SOC 2. It cites Gartner listing Lunar as a "Representative Vendor" for MCP gateways in 2025; that is Lunar's own report of it. Before you buy, ask Boomi or Lunar how support and roadmaps will work after the acquisition. Our MCP governance guide lists the controls to check.
