What Mintlify offers for MCP
Search MCP server
Mintlify's MCP docs say it "generates a search MCP server for your site" and hosts it at /mcp. Mintlify's own server, for example, lives at https://mintlify.com/docs/mcp. Any MCP client, such as Claude, Cursor, Goose or ChatGPT, can connect.
The server has three tools:
- Search returns snippets with titles and links.
- Query docs filesystem reads pages with shell-style commands, including batch reads.
- Submit feedback lets an agent report a page that is wrong or outdated. Mintlify records it in your analytics.
The docs say the search and filesystem tools carry read-only annotations, such as readOnlyHint: true. The server also exposes your skill.md files as MCP resources. Search accepts optional version and language filters on multi-version or multi-language sites.
Mintlify serves discovery files automatically at /.well-known/mcp and /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json. These let agents find your server without setup. Our guide to MCP server discovery explains why that matters.
Sites with login
If your docs need authentication, you must enable the search server first. The authenticated server lives at /authed/mcp, and each user only searches pages their user group can see. Unauthenticated users see only public content.
Admin MCP server
The admin MCP docs describe a second, hosted server at https://mcp.mintlify.com. It lets tools like Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex edit pages, change navigation, update docs.json, open pull requests and change settings.
You connect with an OAuth login to your Mintlify account. Edits to your deploy branch land as unpublished changes, and edits to other branches go through a pull request. Project settings changes, though, "apply immediately to the live project."
WebMCP
WebMCP registers tools in the reader's browser through the navigator.modelContext API. Mintlify lists five tools, including search_docs, read_page and navigate_page. It needs a Pro or Enterprise plan.
Who it's for
Mintlify's MCP features suit software and API companies that already host docs on Mintlify. The search server helps your users' AI tools answer questions from current docs, not stale training data. The admin server suits teams that want an AI assistant to draft doc changes for human review.
Pricing
Mintlify's pricing page lists three plans as of October 2026:
| Plan | Price | MCP-related items |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $0/mo, 5 editor seats | "MCP server" listed |
| Pro | $450/mo billed annually, $540/mo monthly | Adds WebMCP support, agent analytics, 10,000 AI credits a month |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Adds SSO, SCIM and RBAC, performance SLA |
The docs also set rate limits on MCP use: 5,000 requests per hour per user IP, and 10,000 search calls per hour per site.
Security and trust
The pricing page FAQ says: "we are SOC 2 Type 2 certified and GDPR compliant." It adds that Mintlify is "in the process of being ISO 27001 compliant." Reports sit on its trust center.
Mintlify's own docs warn that the admin MCP is "a tool with write access." It advises connecting it "only from trusted AI tools" and reviewing every pull request. The OAuth session inherits your dashboard permissions. For a wider checklist, see MCP security risks.
