Composio MCP: What It Offers, Pricing and Alternatives

This spotlight is part of our MCP company spotlights, within The MCP Guide. Building an MCP company? See SEO and GEO for MCP companies.

Composio is a tool platform for AI agents. It connects agents to apps like GitHub, Gmail and Slack, handles the sign-in for each app, and can expose those tools through a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoint. That means any MCP client can use them by pasting one URL.

Checked against: Composio's documentation on 28 October 2026. eSEOspace did not test Composio's products.

Key Takeaways

  • Composio says it supports 1,500+ apps and works with "any AI tool that supports connecting to MCP servers."
  • A Composio session can be exposed as a hosted MCP endpoint, and "Composio-managed auth is the default," per its docs.
  • Pricing is per tool call: Hobby is free for 100,000 calls a month, and Pro is $29 a month with a $29 usage credit.
  • Composio says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant and that the AI model never sees stored passwords or tokens.
  • New pricing applied to signups from 15 August 2026, so older reviews may quote different numbers.

What Composio offers for MCP

Hosted MCP sessions

Composio's docs describe two ways to use its tools. One works through framework packages for OpenAI, Anthropic or the Vercel AI SDK. The other exposes "a Composio session through a hosted MCP endpoint," with "no provider package needed."

A session is a bundle of tools for one user. The docs say sessions "handle tool discovery, authentication, and toolkit versioning automatically." A toolkit is Composio's word for an app-level group of tools, such as github. The MCP setup works with "any MCP-compatible client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, OpenAI Agents, etc.)."

Managed authentication

Sign-in is the hard part of most integrations. Composio's homepage says "your passwords and tokens stay with Composio, encrypted, and your AI never sees them." The docs add that "Composio-managed auth is the default," so users can connect accounts at runtime without you building an OAuth app first.

Apps and custom servers

Composio says it supports "1,500+ apps." The homepage also says "you can easily add custom MCP servers to Composio for free." The Composio GitHub repository is MIT licensed and describes "1000+ toolkits, tool search, context management, authentication, and a sandboxed workbench." The two counts differ, so check the toolkit catalog for the app you need.

Who it's for

Composio's homepage names two audiences. "Composio Platform is designed for developers who want to add integrations without building them from scratch." "Composio For You" lets people connect assistants like ChatGPT or Claude "without writing any code."

In practice, it fits product teams building their own agent who need many app connections fast. If you only need one or two apps, the vendor's own MCP server may be simpler. Our guide on building vs buying an MCP server walks through that choice.

Pricing

Composio's pricing page listed these plans on 28 October 2026:

PlanPriceIncludedOverage
Hobby$0, no card needed100,000 tool calls and 50,000 triggers a month, 3 team membersUsage pauses at the cap
Pro$29/monthA $29 monthly usage credit, unlimited team members$0.0003 per tool call
EnterpriseCustomCommitted volume, SSO and SCIM, customer-managed keysCustom

Pro add-ons include an IP allowlist, a BAA (a health-data agreement), zero data retention and white-labeling, each priced per call or per connection. The page says the new pricing applies to signups on or after 15 August 2026. Existing customers stay on their plan through 31 December 2026.

Security and trust

Composio says it is "SOC 2 Type II compliant" and points to a Trust Center for reports. It says OAuth tokens and API keys are encrypted, and customer data "is protected at rest and in transit." SSO, SCIM and customer-managed keys are Enterprise features on the pricing page.

A platform like this holds the keys to many apps at once, so treat it as a high-value system. Our MCP security risks guide lists what to check before you connect it to company accounts.

Alternatives

  • Arcade.dev focuses on user-scoped authorization, so the agent acts as the signed-in user.
  • Pipedream offers a hosted MCP server for each of its 3,000+ apps, priced by compute credits.
  • StackOne exposes every connector as an MCP server, with a focus on HR, CRM and other enterprise SaaS.

Next step

If Composio covers the apps you need, start on the free Hobby plan and test with low-risk accounts first. If you are weighing a platform against a custom server, our MCP development team can help you compare cost, control and security for your use case.

Frequently asked questions

Does Composio work with Claude and Cursor?

Yes, per Composio. Its docs say the hosted MCP endpoint works with "any MCP-compatible client," naming Claude Desktop, Cursor and OpenAI Agents. In Cursor, the homepage says you connect "by pasting a single MCP URL."

How much does Composio cost?

Hobby is free for 100,000 tool calls a month and pauses at the cap. Pro is $29 a month, includes a $29 usage credit, and charges $0.0003 per extra call. Enterprise is custom.

Is Composio open source?

Partly. The main GitHub repository is MIT licensed. The hosted service, with managed auth and the MCP endpoint, is a paid platform with a free tier.

Is Composio secure enough for company data?

Composio says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant and keeps tokens encrypted, away from the AI model. SSO and customer-managed keys need the Enterprise plan. Review its Trust Center and your own data rules before connecting sensitive accounts.
