What Cequence offers for MCP
Turning APIs into MCP tools
The AI Gateway page says "by simply uploading OpenAPI specifications, AI Gateway automatically transforms traditional APIs into 'agent-ready' tools." Its FAQ calls this a "no-code approach" for converting "internal, external, or SaaS APIs into tools compatible with the Model Context Protocol."
Cequence says this takes "just a few minutes." It also offers "one registry of approved API specs" for code-writing agents. If you are new to how API operations become tools, our MCP vs API explainer covers the basics.
Containing agents
Cequence frames agents as insiders with privileged access. The page lists several controls:
- Agent Personas. You describe an agent's job in plain English. Cequence generates a persona with only the tools, APIs, skills and models it needs.
- Agent Behavior Protection. Each tool call is judged in the context of the full session. This catches chains of allowed actions that add up to misuse.
- Agent Access Keys. Agents authenticate to the gateway, which brokers backend tokens. Agents "never have direct access to backend credentials."
- Prompt Guard. Detects prompt injection and safety filter bypass attempts.
Governance and visibility
The page describes "trusted registries of MCP servers, APIs, LLMs, and skills." Spend budgets can cap cost per employee, team or persona. Every request and response is recorded, and audit records export to SIEM tools. Cequence also says it finds shadow MCP servers and agents "from existing SIEM logs."
Who it's for
The AI Gateway suits large companies with many APIs that want agents to use them under tight control. It fits especially well if a security team owns the rollout. Cequence's API security customers can feed "enhanced API specs" into the gateway, per the page.

Pricing
Cequence has no public pricing page; cequence.ai/pricing returned "not found" on 28 October 2026. The AI Gateway page offers a datasheet and a personalized demo. Plan for a sales process and an enterprise contract.
The page does describe cost controls inside the product. Admins can cap tokens per minute, day or month, and spend per day or month, by team.
Security and trust
Security is the product's focus. Cequence says the gateway enforces "OAuth 2.1 IdP support, RBAC, and discrete pre-prod/prod modes." Session binding locks sessions to the originating IP address to stop token reuse. DLP can monitor, redact or block sensitive data in MCP, API, LLM and agent-to-agent traffic.
On regulation, the FAQ says Cequence "can provide Annex IV documentation under NDA" for the EU AI Act. We did not find a SOC 2 or ISO statement on the pages we opened, so ask during procurement. For a general checklist, see our MCP security hub.
