Composio vs Pipedream MCP: Which Agent Integration Platform Fits? (2026)

This comparison is part of our MCP comparisons, within The MCP Guide. Facts are checked against each vendor's own documentation and pricing pages on the date shown.

Both Composio and Pipedream let developers give AI agents managed access to thousands of apps over MCP (Model Context Protocol), with sign-in handled for you. Pick Pipedream if you need the widest app catalog and plan to bill by your customers' connected users. Pick Composio if you want a generous free tier for production and simple per-call pricing.

Checked against: Composio's docs and Pipedream's MCP docs on 28 October 2026. eSEOspace did not test either product.

Key Takeaways

  • Pipedream says it offers "a dedicated MCP server for all of our 3,000+ integrated apps" with "over 10,000 pre-built tools." Composio says it supports "1,500+ apps."
  • Composio bundles tools into per-user sessions exposed as one hosted MCP endpoint; Pipedream runs one hosted server per app.
  • Composio's free Hobby plan covers 100,000 tool calls a month; Pipedream's Free plan has no production environment.
  • Pipedream's Startup plan is $99 a month billed annually, or $150 monthly, with 100 external users and 10,000 credits.
  • Both say they hold user credentials encrypted, away from your app and the model.

Where Composio is stronger

Production use on the free tier

Composio's pricing page gives Hobby users 100,000 tool calls and 50,000 triggers a month at no cost. The page says Hobby "stops at your included limit, so we won't charge you unexpectedly." Pipedream's pricing page lists no production environment on Free, so a live product needs Startup or higher.

Simple per-call pricing

Composio charges $0.0003 per tool call on Pro. Pipedream charges for compute time and for each external user who connects an account. Per-call pricing is easier to estimate when you know how many actions your agent runs.

One endpoint for a whole tool bundle

Composio's docs say you can "expose a Composio session through a hosted MCP endpoint," and that sessions handle "tool discovery, authentication, and toolkit versioning automatically." The agent sees one MCP URL with the tools for that user. Composio's homepage also says you can add custom MCP servers "for free." See our Composio spotlight.

Where Pipedream is stronger

Twice the app catalog

Pipedream's MCP docs promise "access to 3,000+ apps and APIs through a consistent interface." Its homepage describes "managed auth and 10,000+ tools across 3,000+ APIs, for the agents you're building." That is about twice Composio's stated app count.

Free hosted servers for personal use

The docs say "anyone can use Pipedream's hosted MCP servers for their own use for free." A solo user can connect their own accounts to Claude or Cursor before any company buys a plan. Our Pipedream spotlight covers both personal and developer use.

Compliance on every plan

Pipedream lists SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR on all plans, including Free. HIPAA, SSO, SCIM and static egress IPs are on Business. Composio offers a BAA as a paid Pro add-on and SSO on Enterprise.

Pricing

Both pricing pages were checked on 28 October 2026.

Composio (pricing):

Pro$29/month$29 monthly usage credit, unlimited team members$0.0003 per tool call

The new pricing applies to Composio signups on or after 15 August 2026; existing customers keep their plan through 31 December 2026.

Pipedream (pricing):

Startup$99/month billed annually, or $150 monthly100 included, then $2 each10,000 a month, then $0.012 each

Pipedream's page says calling a tool through MCP uses 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute. Listing apps and accounts uses no credits. An external user is one of your customers who connects an account.

Security and admin controls

  • Credentials. Pipedream says "user credentials are encrypted at rest." Composio says tokens "stay with Composio, encrypted, and your AI never sees them."
  • Identity. SSO and SCIM are Enterprise features at Composio and Business features at Pipedream.
  • Network. Pipedream lists dedicated static egress IPs on Business. Composio sells an IP allowlist as a Pro add-on.
  • Health data. Pipedream lists HIPAA on Business. Composio lists a BAA as a Pro add-on, included on Enterprise.
  • Key control. Composio offers customer-managed keys on Enterprise, where it stores only ciphertext. Pipedream's pricing page does not list this.

Both platforms act inside your users' accounts. Decide which tools each agent may call before launch. Our guide to MCP authentication and OAuth explains how delegated sign-in works.

Which to choose

  • Pick Composio if you want to run a small production agent on a free tier, or you prefer paying per tool call.
  • Pick Composio if you want one MCP URL per user session instead of one server per app.
  • Pick Pipedream if you need an app that only Pipedream lists, or you want the largest prebuilt tool library.
  • Pick Pipedream if you need HIPAA, SSO and static IPs under one business contract.
  • Try both if you are unsure. Both have free development access, so you can prototype the same agent on each.

Next step

Model your costs with real numbers: expected tool calls, external users and average call time. If you are still weighing a platform against your own server, read build vs buy for MCP servers or ask our MCP development team to scope it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pipedream still independent?

Pipedream's homepage and pricing page footers read "© 2026 Pipedream, Inc." on 28 October 2026. Workday appears only as a customer logo. Neither page mentions an acquisition, so we do not report one.

Which is cheaper for a small agent?

For low volume, Composio's free Hobby plan allows production use up to 100,000 calls a month. Pipedream needs at least Startup, at $99 a month billed annually, for production. At higher volume, compare per-call and per-user costs with your own numbers.

Do both work with Claude and Cursor?

Composio's docs say its endpoint works with "any MCP-compatible client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, OpenAI Agents, etc.)." Pipedream offers hosted MCP servers that individuals can connect at mcp.pipedream.com, and developers can add them to their own agents.

Can I add my own MCP server?

Composio says you can add custom MCP servers for free. Pipedream's MCP docs focus on its own catalog of apps and did not describe adding outside MCP servers on the pages we checked.
