The Gong MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot ask questions about accounts and deals, and generate briefs, based on Gong call and email activity. Gong runs it as a hosted server, and it returns AI-generated insights rather than raw data.

What it can do
Gong's server overview describes three tools. Each analyzes calls and emails within a defined time range and returns an AI-generated answer.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
ask_account | Answers a focused question about one account, such as objections, risks or competitor mentions |
ask_deal | Answers a focused question about one CRM deal, such as blockers or agreed next steps |
generate_brief | Builds a structured summary of an account, deal or contact: key themes, stakeholders, risks and next steps |
Each tool has an includeSources parameter. When it is true, the answer includes links to the calls and emails used. Gong says this turns on automatically when your prompt asks for sources.
For contacts, generate_brief needs the CRM contact ID. For accounts and deals, name lookup works.
This is a different model from most CRM servers. You do not get records or transcripts to work with. You get Gong's own analysis, which keeps raw conversation data inside Gong.
How to connect it
Gong's enablement guide splits setup between a tech admin and team members.
Before you begin. Users need a paid Gong seat and an AI plan that supports custom MCP connections. Gong lists Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise; ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu; and Copilot Studio or Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility.
Step 1: admin creates the integration.
- In Gong, click Admin center.
- In the Settings tab, click MCP under Ecosystem, then the MCP servers tab.
- Click New MCP server integration and name it after the AI tool.
- Enter the redirect URI for that tool. For Claude, Gong lists
https://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callback. - Choose a Registration type and, under Authorization context, choose Personal access. Click Save.
Step 2: connect the AI tool. Add a new MCP connection with this URL, plus the client ID and secret Gong generated:
https://mcp.gong.io/mcp
Security notes
- Read-only. Gong says AI tools cannot create, update or delete any data in Gong.
- No raw data. Transcripts, message bodies and activity lists are not returned. Private calls are excluded from all results.
- Personal access. Gong's enablement guide now describes only personal access, where each team member connects with their own Gong credentials. Gong's server overview still mentions a shared, organization-wide option through a single token, but the setup steps do not offer it. Use personal access.
- Manual or automatic registration. Manual registration issues a client ID and secret, and only that client can connect; Gong says marketplace connections and personal accounts are then blocked for the company. Automatic registration lets users connect from a marketplace, including with personal AI accounts.
- Admin gate. An AI tool that registers without a matching admin-created integration is not authorized.
Even AI-written summaries can expose deal details. Read MCP data exfiltration, MCP excessive permissions and the MCP Security Center.
Alternatives
- Salesforce MCP server: direct CRM record access, including a read-only server.
- Attio MCP server: searches call recordings and transcripts linked to CRM records.
- Close MCP server: fetches call transcripts and meeting notes with a read-only scope.
Next step
Gong's server is one of the safer ways to bring call insights into an AI assistant, because it is read-only and keeps transcripts in Gong. Start with personal access and manual registration.
