Best MCP Servers for Data Analytics in 2026

This list is part of our best-of MCP lists, within The MCP Guide. Entries are checked against each vendor's own pages; inclusion is editorial and not paid.

The best MCP servers for data analytics in 2026 split into two groups. Warehouse and transformation servers (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, dbt and ClickHouse) let an AI query governed company data. Product and web analytics servers (PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel and Google Analytics) let it answer questions about users, funnels and traffic.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that connects AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor to outside tools. For analytics, that means asking "Which signup source had the best 30-day retention?" and getting an answer from your own data, with the SQL or chart to back it up.

We checked every entry against the vendor's own site or docs on 28 October 2026. We did not test these products.

Key Takeaways

  • The big warehouses all run managed MCP servers inside your account: BigQuery at a Google endpoint, Snowflake as an object you create with SQL, and Databricks through workspace endpoints.
  • Read-only is the norm for analytics. ClickHouse runs queries read-only by default, BigQuery offers an execute_sql_readonly tool, and Google Analytics uses a read-only scope.
  • Product analytics vendors go further: PostHog, Amplitude and Mixpanel can also create charts, dashboards, cohorts or experiments.
  • Costs follow your normal usage. BigQuery bills bytes scanned, Snowflake and Databricks bill compute, and AI-written queries can be expensive if nobody sets limits.
  • Semantic layers matter. dbt's server can query defined metrics, which keeps the AI from inventing its own definition of "revenue."

How we chose

We used the MCP Guide's standard listicle criteria:

  • Live and public. The vendor must publish and document its own MCP server. We opened every page on 28 October 2026.
  • Clear pricing. Prices come only from official pricing pages.
  • Security basics. The docs must describe authentication and how access is limited.

This list covers analysis. For operational databases such as Supabase and MongoDB, see the best MCP servers for databases. For SEO and ads analytics, see the best MCP servers for marketing. The order is not a ranking. More lists live on the MCP Guide's best-of hub.

1. BigQuery: managed MCP for Google Cloud data

What it is. The BigQuery MCP server is a remote server at https://bigquery.googleapis.com/mcp that supports "running queries, getting metadata, and listing resources." It offers execute_sql and execute_sql_readonly, which by default "limit query processing time to three minutes." Google also documents a local option through MCP Toolbox for Databases.

Best for: Analysts and data teams whose warehouse is BigQuery.

Pricing: No MCP-specific price. BigQuery's pricing page says on-demand queries are charged per byte processed, and "The first 1 TiB of query data processed per month is free."

Pros:

  • Access controlled through Google Cloud IAM.
  • A read-only SQL tool for safe analysis.
  • Three-minute default query limit caps runaway queries.

Cons:

  • AI-written queries can scan large tables and cost money.
  • Google Drive external tables aren't supported by the SQL tools.

Checked against: Google Cloud docs on 28 October 2026. Full profile: BigQuery MCP server.

2. Snowflake: an MCP server you define with SQL

What it is. The Snowflake-managed MCP server runs inside your account. You create it with SQL and choose its tools: Cortex Search, Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, SQL execution or your own functions. Snowflake uses "Snowflake OAuth by default, with optional External OAuth."

Best for: Enterprises that want AI access to governed Snowflake data without new infrastructure.

Pricing: No MCP-specific price. Snowflake's pricing page lists Standard, Enterprise and higher editions, priced by consumption and region.

Pros:

  • You decide exactly which tools the server exposes.
  • Snowflake recommends OAuth and least-privileged roles for tokens.
  • Our profile notes the SQL tool is read-only by default.

Cons:

  • Setup is SQL-driven, so it needs a data engineer.
  • Snowflake warns that hardcoded tokens "can lead to token leakage."

Checked against: Snowflake docs on 28 October 2026. Full profile: Snowflake MCP server.

3. Databricks: Genie, SQL and Unity Catalog

What it is. Databricks-provided MCPs need no hosting or registration. Each system.ai MCP "is a Unity Catalog securable invoked through Unity Gateway," so you can "govern who invokes them with grants." Other workspace endpoints, including the Genie Agent MCP, use permissions on the underlying resources.

Best for: Data teams on the Databricks lakehouse who want natural-language analytics through Genie.

Pricing: No separate MCP fee. Databricks' pricing page bills usage in Databricks Units (DBUs), a "normalized unit of processing power."

Pros:

  • Unity Catalog grants and policies govern each call.
  • Genie gives business users natural-language answers.
  • Managed by Databricks, with nothing to host.

Cons:

  • Some services, such as system.ai.dbsql, require the Unity Gateway beta.
  • Mixed preview and GA status across endpoints, per our profile.

Checked against: Databricks docs on 28 October 2026. Full profile: Databricks MCP server.

4. dbt: metrics, lineage and model health

What it is. The dbt MCP server gives AI tools "consistent, governed access to models, metrics, lineage, and freshness." When you allow it, it can also run CLI commands, call platform APIs and query the Semantic Layer. dbt Labs publishes it as open source and runs a hosted version.

Best for: Analytics engineers and teams that define business metrics in dbt.

Pricing: dbt's pricing page lists a free Developer plan with one seat, Starter at $100 per user per month and custom Enterprise pricing. Our profile notes the remote server is on all dbt platform plans and text_to_sql uses Copilot actions.

Pros:

  • Semantic Layer queries use your defined metrics, not guesses.
  • Lineage helps the AI explain where a number comes from.
  • Local and hosted options.

Cons:

  • CLI and job tools can run models and change warehouse objects.
  • Some tools are marked experimental, per our profile.

Checked against: dbt docs on 28 October 2026. Full profile: dbt MCP server.

5. ClickHouse: fast SQL, read-only by default

What it is. The ClickHouse MCP server lets AI apps list databases and tables and run SQL on ClickHouse. "Queries run in read-only mode by default," and writes must be enabled explicitly. It can also query files and URLs through chDB, per our profile.

Best for: Teams running real-time analytics or event data on ClickHouse.

Pricing: Free and open source. ClickHouse's pricing page offers a 30-day Cloud trial with $300 in credits.

Pros:

  • Read-only default.
  • Works with self-hosted ClickHouse or ClickHouse Cloud.
  • Setup guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex, per our profile.

Cons:

  • Runs as a local package or a service you host.
  • Database username and password are stored in its config.

Checked against: ClickHouse's GitHub repository on 28 October 2026. Full profile: ClickHouse MCP server.

6. Google Analytics: GA4 reporting, read-only

What it is. Google's Google Analytics MCP server is "currently for read-only requests and cannot modify your Google Analytics settings." It authenticates with Application Default Credentials and the read-only Analytics scope.

Best for: Marketers and analysts who want GA4 answers without building reports by hand.

Pricing: Free and open source. Google Analytics API quotas apply.

Pros:

  • Read-only by design.
  • Official Google code.
  • Covers accounts, properties and reports.

Cons:

  • Runs locally and needs Google Cloud credentials.
  • Our profile notes the README labels it "Experimental."

Checked against: Google for Developers on 28 October 2026. Full profile: Google Analytics MCP server.

7. PostHog: product analytics, flags and errors

What it is. PostHog says its MCP server "is a free, hosted endpoint" at https://mcp.posthog.com/mcp. Once connected, "your agent can read and write across PostHog." Sign-in routes you to the right US or EU region automatically.

Best for: Startups and product engineers who use PostHog for analytics, feature flags and error tracking.

Pricing: The MCP endpoint is free. PostHog's pricing page says "97% of companies use PostHog for free," with paid usage above the free tier.

Pros:

  • Free, hosted and quick to connect.

Checked against: Mixpanel docs on 28 October 2026.

How to use analytics MCP servers well

AI is fast at writing SQL and slow at knowing what your numbers mean. A few habits help:

  1. Give it definitions. Point the AI at dbt metrics or Snowflake's Cortex Analyst rather than raw tables.
  2. Default to read-only. Use BigQuery's read-only tool, ClickHouse's default and Google Analytics' read-only scope.
  3. Cap costs. Set warehouse budgets and query limits before an AI can run SQL.
  4. Check the query. Ask the AI to show its SQL or chart so a person can verify it.
  5. Govern access. Use your warehouse's roles. See MCP excessive permissions and the MCP security checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI really analyze my company data through MCP?

Yes. Warehouse servers let an AI run SQL, and product analytics servers let it build charts. The answers are only as good as your data definitions, so pair the AI with a semantic layer and check its queries.

Are analytics MCP servers read-only?

Many are by default. ClickHouse and Google Analytics are read-only by default, and BigQuery offers a read-only SQL tool. PostHog, Amplitude and Mixpanel can also write charts, dashboards or flags.

Will MCP increase my warehouse bill?

It can. AI-written queries still scan data and use compute. BigQuery's first 1 TiB per month is free, but large scans beyond that cost money. Set budgets and limits first.

Which product analytics MCP server is free?

PostHog says its MCP endpoint is free, and most companies stay on its free tier. Amplitude has a free plan with 2 million events per month. Mixpanel has free plans with Query API limits.

Do I need dbt to use these servers?

No, but it helps. dbt's server lets the AI use agreed metric definitions, which reduces the risk of two people getting two different revenue numbers.
