Composio vs Zapier MCP: Developer Platform or No-Code Actions? (2026)

This comparison is part of our MCP comparisons, within The MCP Guide. Facts are checked against each vendor's own documentation and pricing pages on the date shown.

Pick Zapier MCP if your team already runs on Zapier and wants an AI assistant to take actions in those apps without code. Pick Composio if you are a developer building your own agent and want per-user sessions, managed sign-in and per-call pricing at high volume. Both connect AI apps to thousands of business tools over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard AI apps use to call outside tools.

Checked against: Composio's docs and Zapier's MCP docs on 28 October 2026. eSEOspace did not test either product.

Key Takeaways

  • Zapier MCP is included on every Zapier plan, and each successful tool call uses two tasks from your plan, per Zapier's docs.
  • Composio prices per tool call: Hobby is free for 100,000 calls a month, and Pro is $29 a month plus $0.0003 per call.
  • Zapier cites "9,000+ apps and 40,000+ actions"; Composio says it supports "1,500+ apps" and lets you add custom MCP servers for free.
  • Composio is built around developer sessions with managed auth; Zapier is built around your existing Zapier account and its connected apps.
  • On the admin side, Zapier puts SAML single sign-on on Team, while Composio keeps SSO and SCIM for Enterprise.

Where Composio is stronger

Built for agents inside your product

Composio's documentation describes sessions that handle "tool discovery, authentication, and toolkit versioning automatically." You can expose a session "through a hosted MCP endpoint," using session.mcp.url and session.mcp.headers. That suits a software company that wants each of its users to get their own tool bundle.

The docs say "Composio-managed auth is the default." Users connect their accounts at runtime, so you do not need to build an OAuth app for each service first. Our Composio spotlight covers the product in more depth.

Cheaper per call at volume

Composio's pricing page lists $0.0003 per tool call on Pro, and the Hobby plan includes 100,000 calls a month at no cost. Zapier bills two tasks per call from a task pool shared with your Zaps. If an agent makes thousands of calls a day, Composio's model is easier to predict.

Bring your own MCP servers

Composio's homepage says "you can easily add custom MCP servers to Composio for free." That lets you mix its catalog with an internal server you built.

Where Zapier MCP is stronger

Much wider app catalog

Zapier's docs cite "9,000+ apps and 40,000+ actions." If your team uses niche tools, Zapier is more likely to have them. Composio lists 1,500+ apps.

No code, and it reuses what you already set up

Zapier MCP runs on the app connections already in your Zapier account. Zapier's docs describe two modes. "In agentic mode, your AI finds and adds the actions it needs during the conversation." "In managed mode, you pick a fixed set of actions." Managed mode is the safer start for most teams.

Our Zapier MCP server profile lists the clients Zapier supports. The ChatGPT setup guide walks through one connection.

Admin features on a mid-tier plan

Zapier's pricing page puts SAML single sign-on and a 6-month audit log on the Team plan. Composio lists SSO and SCIM only on Enterprise.

Pricing

Both pricing pages were checked on 28 October 2026.

Composio (pricing):

PlanPriceIncludedExtra use
Hobby$0100,000 tool calls and 50,000 triggers a month, 3 team membersStops at the cap
Pro$29/month$29 monthly usage credit, unlimited team members$0.0003 per tool call
EnterpriseCustomSSO, SCIM, customer-managed keysCustom

Composio's page says the new pricing applies to signups on or after 15 August 2026. Existing customers stay on their plan through 31 December 2026. Add-ons such as an IP allowlist, a BAA (a health-data agreement) and zero data retention are billed per call on Pro.

Zapier (pricing):

PlanAnnual billingMonthly billingTasks a month
Free$0$0100
Profrom $19.99/monthfrom $29.99/monthfrom 750
Teamfrom $69/monthfrom $103.50/monthfrom 2,000
EnterpriseContact salesContact salesCustom

Zapier lists MCP on every plan, including Free. At two tasks per call, the 100-task Free plan covers about 50 successful calls a month. MCP calls draw from the same task pool as your Zaps.

Security and admin controls

Both platforms hold the keys to many apps, so treat either as a high-value system.

  • Credentials. Composio's homepage says "your passwords and tokens stay with Composio, encrypted, and your AI never sees them." Zapier keeps app credentials in your Zapier account.
  • Scoping. Zapier's managed mode limits the server to a fixed list of actions. Composio scopes tools per session.
  • Sharing. Zapier's docs say sharing a server "needs a Team or Enterprise plan"; on other plans you can share a tool bundle.
  • Audit trail. Zapier lists "workspace-level access controls, user permissions, and audit history." Its pricing page lists audit log retention of 6 months on Team and 1 year on Enterprise. Composio's pricing page does not mention audit logs.
  • Identity. Zapier offers SAML SSO on Team and SCIM on Enterprise. Composio offers SSO, SCIM and customer-managed keys on Enterprise.
  • Certification. Both companies say they are SOC 2 Type II.

For the risks of one agent reaching many apps, read our MCP security risks guide.

Which to choose

  • Pick Zapier MCP if your team already uses Zapier, the people setting it up are not developers, and you want Claude or ChatGPT to run actions in apps you already connected.
  • Pick Zapier MCP if you need a niche app that Composio does not list.
  • Pick Composio if you are building an agent into your own product and each customer needs their own connected accounts.
  • Pick Composio if your agent makes many calls, since per-call pricing is lower than two tasks per call on most Zapier tiers.
  • Use both if your internal staff use Zapier while your product team builds on Composio. They do not conflict.

Next step

Start in read-only or managed mode with a test account on either platform, and count your expected calls before you pick a plan. If you are deciding between a platform and a custom server for your product, our MCP development team can scope both paths.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zapier MCP free?

Zapier lists MCP on every plan, including Free. Each successful call uses two tasks, and the Free plan includes 100 tasks a month. Failed calls do not use tasks, per Zapier's docs.

Does Composio work with Claude and ChatGPT?

Composio's docs say its hosted MCP endpoint works with "any MCP-compatible client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, OpenAI Agents, etc.)." Its homepage also says you can connect it to ChatGPT or Claude without code through "Composio For You."

Which has more apps?

Zapier cites 9,000+ apps and 40,000+ actions. Composio says 1,500+ apps, plus custom MCP servers you add yourself. Check each catalog for the exact actions you need, not just the app name.

Which is safer for company data?

Neither is safe by default; both depend on how you scope them. Zapier offers SSO and an audit log from the Team plan. Composio keeps tokens away from the model and offers customer-managed keys on Enterprise.
