Best MCP Servers for HR, Payroll and Recruiting in 2026

This list is part of our best-of MCP lists, within The MCP Guide. Entries are checked against each vendor's own pages; inclusion is editorial and not paid.

The best MCP servers for HR in 2026 are the official ones from the HR systems themselves. For payroll and HRIS, Gusto, Rippling, Deel, BambooHR and HiBob host servers. For recruiting, Greenhouse and Ashby do. The right choice is almost always the server for the system your people data already lives in.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets an AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT read and act on outside software. Connected to an HR system, it lets an employee ask "How much PTO do I have left?" or a recruiter ask "Which candidates have been stuck in onsite for two weeks?"

We checked every entry against the vendor's own pages on 2 November 2026. eSEOspace did not test these products. People data is among the most sensitive data a company holds, so this list puts permission controls next to features.

Key Takeaways

  • Seven HR vendors host official MCP servers we could verify. Several are still in beta, including BambooHR, Greenhouse and Ashby.
  • Every server on this list acts as the signed-in user, so the AI sees only what that person can already see in the HR system.
  • Rippling and Greenhouse add admin controls on top: Rippling needs an admin access assignment, and Greenhouse admins set read and write scopes.
  • High-stakes actions get extra checks. Rippling turns hiring into a draft for review, and Greenhouse asks for confirmation before rejecting, hiring or merging candidates.
  • We could not find an official MCP server from Workday, Workable, Personio, Lever, ADP or Paylocity. Only third-party or community servers turned up.

How we chose

We used the MCP Guide's standard listicle criteria:

  • Live and public. The HR vendor must publish and document its own MCP server. We opened each page on 2 November 2026.
  • Clear pricing. The vendor must publish pricing or say how to get it. Prices come only from official pricing pages.
  • Security basics. The docs must describe sign-in, permissions or scopes.

We left out third-party wrappers and community servers for HR systems. They usually rely on one shared API key, which breaks per-person access rules. That is a poor fit for salary, health and identity data. The order below is not a ranking. Browse other lists on the MCP Guide's best-of hub.

Gusto logo1. Gusto: payroll, employees and time

What it is. Gusto offers a hosted MCP server. Claude's Gusto connector listing gives https://mcp.api.gusto.com/anthropic and shows 62 tools, including list_employees, list_payrolls, run_payroll and calculate_rd_tax_credit. The listing says, "Eligible customers can also run payroll in Claude."

Best for: Small businesses that run payroll and benefits in Gusto.

Pricing: No separate MCP fee is listed on Claude's directory page. Gusto's own integration and pricing pages returned "403 Forbidden" to our fetch on 2 November 2026, so we could not confirm plan prices. Check them in your browser.

Pros:

  • Covers payroll, employees and time in one server.
  • Ready-made connector in Claude's directory.
  • Sign-in to your own Gusto account is required.

Cons:

  • A payroll-running tool is a high-impact write. Keep manual confirmation on for every call.
  • Anthropic's listing warns it "does not control which tools developers make available," so review the 62 tools before you connect.

Rippling logo2. Rippling: governed access through an MCP Gateway

What it is. Rippling MCP exposes one tool, code, with curated actions such as searching people, requesting time off, viewing leave balances and creating draft new hires. Rippling says it "does not support unrestricted browsing or raw database access."

Best for: Companies that run HR, payroll and IT in Rippling and want strict admin control over AI access.

Pricing: The setup page says the tools need "an active Rippling AI subscription." Rippling's pricing page says, "Rippling plans start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee," with custom quotes for the full cost.

Pros:

  • "Employees have no access until an admin creates an access policy."
  • High-impact actions such as hiring "create a draft state in Rippling for human review."
  • "High-risk sensitive data is never exposed," including SSNs, home addresses, personal emails and tax IDs.

Cons:

  • Tool calls return no data without a Rippling AI trial or subscription.
  • The single code tool makes it harder to see each action at a glance in your AI app.

Deel logo3. Deel: global payroll, contractors and EOR

What it is. Deel's MCP server runs at https://api.letsdeel.com/mcp. Each tool maps to a Deel API operation, grouped into Organization tools (such as getListOfPeople), Worker tools (such as createTimeOffRequest) and Public reference tools (such as retrieveCountries).

Best for: Companies that hire contractors or employees in several countries through Deel.

Pricing: No separate MCP fee. Deel's pricing page lists contractors from $49 per contractor per month, Employer of Record from $599 per employee per month, and US PEO from $125 per employee per month.

Pros:

  • OAuth2 is recommended, so each user signs in with their own Deel account.
  • Names Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT as clients.
  • Public reference tools need no user-specific permissions.

Cons:

  • Many tools write to contracts and payroll data, so scope carefully.
  • A personal access token fallback is easier to over-share than OAuth.

4. BambooHR: HRIS data and time off

What it is. BambooHR's MCP server is hosted at https://{your-subdomain}.bamboohr.com/api/mcp and is in beta. Tools cover employees, reports, time off, goals, hiring, global employment and files, for example get_employee, get_time_off_balance and list_reports.

Best for: Small and mid-size companies that use BambooHR as their HRIS.

Pricing: No separate MCP fee. BambooHR's pricing page lists Core at $10, Pro at $17 and Elite at $25 per employee per month (its FAQ shows slightly different figures), with flat rates for 25 or fewer employees.

Pros:

  • An admin must turn on the AI Connectors app, and existing BambooHR permissions apply.
  • Access tokens "are valid for one hour and refresh automatically."
  • Separate setup guides for Claude and ChatGPT connectors.

Cons:

  • delete_goal and delete_goal_comment permanently remove data.
  • Custom clients need a developer-portal app; dynamic client registration isn't supported.

Checked against: BambooHR MCP server docs on 2 November 2026.

HiBob logo5. HiBob: live people context in your AI tools

What it is. HiBob's MCP page says "HiBob MCP brings live, governed people context into your AI tools." It covers leave balances, time-off requests, profile updates, reporting lines and approvals, and, where enabled, performance, goals, hiring and compensation.

Best for: Mid-size companies that run HR in Bob and want employee self-service from chat.

Pricing: Pricing on request. The page offers a demo and lists no prices.

Pros:

  • "If someone can't see or do it in Bob, they can't see or do it through MCP."
  • Access changes and departures are enforced immediately.
  • Names ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Cursor in its FAQ.

Cons:

  • No public tool list or technical docs on the page we opened.
  • Capabilities depend on which Bob modules your company has enabled.

Checked against: HiBob MCP page on 2 November 2026.

Greenhouse logo6. Greenhouse: recruiting data with admin scopes

What it is. Greenhouse MCP is in open beta for Core, Plus and Pro tiers, per its setup article. Its security FAQ names the endpoint mcp.us.greenhouse.io and lists writes such as creating notes, moving applications and submitting scorecards.

Best for: Talent teams that run structured hiring in Greenhouse.

Pricing: Pricing on request. Greenhouse's pricing page names Core, Plus and Pro tiers and says pricing is "customized based on your company's hiring needs."

Pros:

  • Site Admins set read and write scopes in Dev Center, and those scopes "set an upper limit."
  • "Every DELETE endpoint is permanently blocked for MCP tools."
  • Rejecting, hiring, merging, anonymizing and bulk-revoking need human confirmation; events are tagged mcp_access in audit logs.

Cons:

  • US hosting only, with no EU endpoint yet.
  • No admin UI to revoke one user's token, and signing out of SSO doesn't invalidate MCP tokens.

Checked against: Greenhouse MCP security FAQ on 2 November 2026.

Ashby logo7. Ashby: recruiting pipeline in open beta

What it is. Ashby launched its MCP server in open beta on 29 June 2026. It reads candidates, applications, jobs, interviews, offers, notes and feedback, and it can add candidate notes, move candidates between stages and consider candidates for open jobs.

Best for: Recruiting teams on Ashby that want pipeline answers and light updates from chat.

Pricing: No separate MCP fee; available on all Ashby plans. Ashby's pricing page shows All-In-One Foundations (up to 100 employees) at $400 per month, with other plans priced on request.

Pros:

  • User-level OAuth, so the AI acts as the individual user, not a shared account.
  • Every read and write follows the user's Ashby permissions.
  • Client agnostic, with ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor named.

Cons:

  • Open beta, so behavior may change.
  • No delete or admin-scope controls are described in the announcement.

What we left out

  • Workday. We found third-party Workday servers (CData, Workato and others) but no Workday-owned MCP documentation.
  • Workable, Personio, Lever, ADP and Paylocity. We found only third-party wrappers or community projects, or nothing at all. Several listicles online name these vendors as having servers, but we could not find a vendor-owned page to confirm it.

If one of these is your system of record, a gateway or a custom server is the usual route. Our MCP server finder can help you check what exists.

How to roll out HR MCP servers safely

  1. Start with self-service reads. Leave balances, org charts and pipeline status are low risk. Payroll runs and offers are not. Pilot with HR staff first, then open self-service tools to a small employee group.
  2. Keep confirmations on. Gusto's run_payroll, Greenhouse's hire and reject actions and Rippling's drafts all exist for a reason.
  3. Plan tools by role. Use our MCP tool permission planner to decide which roles get which tools.
  4. Check the audit trail. Greenhouse tags MCP events separately. Read our MCP audit logging guide for what to review.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI run payroll through MCP?

With Gusto, eligible customers can, according to Claude's connector listing, which shows a run_payroll tool. Treat it as a high-impact action, require confirmation and limit it to payroll admins.

Will the AI see salaries and Social Security numbers?

It sees what the signed-in user can see. Rippling says SSNs, home addresses, personal emails and tax IDs are never exposed through its MCP. Check each vendor's docs for their exclusions.

Is there an official Workday MCP server?

We found none on Workday's own pages as of November 2026. Third parties, including CData and Workato, sell Workday MCP servers. Check their access model before you connect employee data.

Which recruiting systems have official MCP servers?

Greenhouse and Ashby both host official servers in open beta. Greenhouse adds admin scopes and blocks all deletes; Ashby is available on all plans.

Do HR MCP servers cost extra?

Most vendors list no separate MCP fee. Rippling is the exception on this list: its tools need an active Rippling AI subscription or trial.

Should employees connect their own AI apps to the HR system?

Only through an approved client and only after a pilot. Every server here acts as the signed-in user, which is good for access rules. But it also means each employee's AI app now holds a token to people data. Pick one approved AI client, write down which tools employees may use, and turn on confirmation for every write. Review the vendor's audit log after the first two weeks, and remove connections for anyone who leaves.
