This comparison is part of our MCP comparisons, within The MCP Guide. Facts are checked against each vendor's own documentation and pricing pages on the date shown.
Pick Zapier MCP if you want to give an AI app real actions today, on any plan, with published prices. Pick Workato Enterprise MCP if you are a larger company that wants agents to run approved business processes under each user's identity, with central governance, and you can work through a sales quote. Both are hosted, both connect to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and both log agent actions.
Checked against: Workato's MCP page and Zapier's MCP docs on 28 October 2026. eSEOspace did not test either product.
Key Takeaways
- Zapier says MCP is included on Free, Pro, Team and Enterprise, and each successful tool call uses two tasks; failed calls do not count.
- Workato publishes no prices; its pricing page lists MCP features from the Business MCP edition up.
- Workato says you can "Convert existing Recipe Functions and Skills into MCP servers with zero code."
- With Workato's Verified User Access, "Agent actions inherit the authenticated user's identity."
- Zapier's admin controls for MCP mostly come from account-level app and action restrictions, which are Enterprise features.

Where Workato is stronger
Turning approved processes into tools
Many companies already run Workato recipes, its automated workflows. Workato's MCP page says you can "Convert existing Recipe Functions and Skills into MCP servers with zero code." An agent then triggers a process your team already tested, instead of calling raw APIs one step at a time. That keeps business rules in the workflow, not in the prompt.
Acting as the real user
Workato's MCP docs say Verified User Access lets servers "use authenticated end-user credentials for external API calls instead of static tokens." The agent can do only what the signed-in person could do. That is the pattern MCP security guidance favors over a single shared service account. Our explainer on the confused deputy problem covers why.
Central governance
Workato says you can "Manage, and govern every MCP server from a single console." Its docs add that each log entry carries identity information, so you can see who performed each action. Its pricing page lists an "AI/MCP Gateway" from Business MCP up.
Where Zapier is stronger
Published, low entry price
Zapier's pricing page lists Zapier MCP on all four plans, including Free with 100 tasks a month. Each MCP tool call uses two tasks from the same pool as Zaps. You can estimate cost before you talk to anyone.
Speed to first action
Zapier's docs say most clients sign in with OAuth and that "Zapier handles OAuth, credentials, and rate limiting." In agentic mode, "your AI finds and adds the actions it needs during the conversation." A small team can connect Claude or ChatGPT to its existing Zapier apps in one sitting.
Client reach
Zapier names Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Grok Bot and VS Code, and says any app that supports MCP over Streamable HTTP can connect. Our Zapier MCP server profile and the guide to connecting ChatGPT to Zapier walk through setup.
Pricing
Zapier
From Zapier's pricing page on 28 October 2026 (entry tiers shown):
| Plan | Tasks per month | Monthly billing | Billed annually (per month) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 100 | $0 | $0 |
| Pro | 750 | $29.99 | $19.99 |
| Team | 2,000 | $103.50 | $69.00 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Contact sales | Contact sales |
Higher task tiers cost more. Because each successful MCP call uses two tasks, 750 tasks covers up to 375 tool calls if nothing else uses them. Pay-per-task overage is available on paid plans, not on Free.
Workato
Workato's pricing page lists four editions: Standard, Business MCP, Enterprise MCP and Workato ONE. It shows no prices. Business MCP is the first edition to include "Pre-Built MCP servers" and the "AI/MCP Gateway." The page offers "Get a quote" and a "Start for free" trial sign-up, and says pricing "may vary based on your contract terms."
Security and admin controls
| Control | Workato | Zapier |
|---|---|---|
| User identity | Verified User Access | Users can only use connections they own or that are shared |
| Turn MCP off | Not described on the pages checked | On by default for all accounts; admins can disable per workspace through their account manager |
| App and action restrictions | Role-based access through user identity | Account-level restrictions carry into MCP; App access controls and Action restrictions are Enterprise |
| Audit trail | All MCP actions logged with identity | History tab; MCP events in the audit log (Team: 6 months; Enterprise: 1 year) |
| SSO | Not covered on the pages checked | SAML SSO on Team and Enterprise, which "extends to MCP access" |
| Certification | Trust Center linked; no certification named on the MCP page | SOC 2 Type II, per Zapier's security docs |
Two Zapier details are worth knowing. Its security docs say "Zapier MCP is enabled by default for all accounts, including Enterprise." They also say restrictions "can't yet be set for MCP alone," so they apply across all Zapier features. Zapier warns never to share a connection token, because whoever holds it can run the server's tools. See our guide to MCP secret leakage.
Which to choose
- Pick Zapier if you are a small or mid-size team that wants AI actions in common apps this week.
- Pick Zapier if you need a published price and a free plan to try MCP before committing.
- Pick Workato if you already run Workato recipes and want agents to call those tested processes.
- Pick Workato if compliance needs every agent action tied to a named user's own permissions.
- Consider both if different teams have different needs: a pilot on Zapier and governed processes on Workato.

Next step
Before you buy either, list the five actions your team most wants an AI to take, and who should approve them. Our MCP readiness audit turns that list into a platform choice and a permission plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zapier MCP free?
Zapier lists MCP on its Free plan, which includes 100 tasks a month. Each successful tool call uses two tasks, and failed calls do not count, per Zapier's docs.
How much does Workato MCP cost?
Workato does not publish prices. Its pricing page lists MCP features from the Business MCP edition and asks you to get a quote.
Can Zapier MCP act as each user rather than one shared account?
Zapier's security docs say users can only use app connections they own or that are shared across the account. Enterprise SSO extends to MCP access. Workato's Verified User Access goes further by calling external APIs with each signed-in user's credentials.
Can I limit which actions the AI can take in Zapier?
Yes. Managed mode lets you pick a fixed set of actions for a server. On Enterprise, account-level app and action restrictions also apply to MCP automatically.
