AI Visibility Tool Pricing in 2026: Prompts, Engines, Refresh and Seats

This article is part of our SEO & AI Visibility Tools: rank trackers, AI visibility trackers and audit tools, with prices checked on vendor pages. Want to know where your site stands? Get a free 20–30 page website audit within 24 hours.

A small business can track AI visibility for about $70 to $100 a month, and an agency covering ten clients should budget about $300 to $500, based on vendor pricing pages checked in November 2026. The cheapest paid plans start at $29, and enterprise tools such as Profound quote custom prices.

What you actually pay depends on four things: how many prompts you track, how many AI engines run each prompt, how often answers refresh, and how many people or clients need access. Get those four numbers before you compare plans.

How AI visibility pricing works

Every tool sells some version of the same unit: one prompt, run on one AI engine, on one day. Vendors package it differently.

Pricing unitHow it worksExample
PromptsYou buy a fixed number of prompts; each runs daily on the included enginesPeec AI Starter: 50 prompts, 3 models
ChecksOne prompt on one platform in one location = one checkAhrefs: 2,500 checks for $50/mo
Answers or creditsOne AI response = one credit; you spend them as you likeAthenaHQ: 3,600 credits/mo; Wellows: 1,800 answers/mo
CustomSales quote based on engines, brands and supportProfound Enterprise

A simple formula helps: prompts x engines x days = monthly answers. Fifty prompts on three engines for 30 days is 4,500 answers. That matches Peec AI's Starter plan, which lists 4,500 monthly AI answers.

Budget and enterprise

Wellows starts at $29/mo for 1,800 AI answers on five engines, with no cap on prompts or seats. Elmo is free to self-host under the MIT license, with cloud plans from $29/mo (ChatGPT only) and $99/mo (any four platforms).

At the top end, Profound lists a free seven-day trial and a custom Enterprise plan covering up to nine engines.

How refresh, seats and clients change the price

Refresh rate. Most self-serve plans now refresh daily. A few let you trade frequency for volume: SE Visible's Agency plan and Peec's Scale agency plan offer daily or weekly tracking. Weekly tracking stretches your allowance, but you see fewer data points, and AI answers vary from day to day.

Seats. Unlimited users is common (Peec, Otterly, SE Visible, AthenaHQ, Wellows). Per-seat pricing shows up on Semrush, Writesonic and Scrunch. If clients or several staff members need logins, seat rules can matter more than the headline price.

Clients and brands. Agencies pay for projects or workspaces as well as prompts. SE Visible counts projects (5, 10 or 30). Peec counts projects (1, 2 or 5) on its standard plans. Profound's Agency Growth plan works per client workspace, with 400 credits each per month.

The hidden costs

Headline prices rarely match the final bill. Watch for these.

  • Engine add-ons. Otterly charges extra for Google AI Mode and Gemini ($9/mo each on Lite, $59/mo each on Standard) and for Claude ($29/mo on Lite, $109/mo on Standard).
  • Per-user licenses. Semrush requires a separate $99 AI Visibility Toolkit license for each user. Writesonic charges $50 per extra user on Basic and Growth. Scrunch Starter adds seats at $75/mo.
  • Overages. Ahrefs bills extra checks at $0.020 each on its $50 package. Claude costs 8 checks per update on Brand Radar.
  • The base subscription. Ahrefs and Semrush add-ons assume you pay for the main suite too.
  • Annual-only prices. Writesonic shows its prices billed annually, paid 12 months upfront. Scrunch and SE Visible charge more month to month.
  • Model caps. Peec includes three active models below Enterprise, so tracking a fourth engine means upgrading.

Monthly vs annual billing

Annual billing cuts most prices by 15 to 20 percent, but you pay upfront and lose flexibility.

ToolMonthlyAnnual (per month)Saving
Otterly.AI Standard$189$160About 15%
SE Visible Basic$89$71About 20%
Scrunch Starter$300$250About 17%
Writesonic StarterNot shown$7920% (per vendor FAQ)
AthenaHQ Starter$295Not shown17% (per vendor toggle)

Pay monthly for the first two or three months. Switch to annual only after the prompt set is stable and the team actually reads the reports.

Worked example 1: a small business

A dental practice offers four services in one city. It wants 30 prompts tracked daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and two staff members need logins.

OptionPlanMonthly costFits?
WritesonicStarter (annual)$79Prompts and engines fit, but only 1 user
SE VisibleBasic$89 monthly or $71 annualYes, 75 prompts and unlimited users
Peec AIStarter$95Yes, 50 prompts and unlimited users
SemrushAI Visibility Toolkit + 50 promptsAbout $258 ($99 + $60, plus $99 for the second user's license)Yes, but costly
Otterly.AIStandard + Gemini add-on$189 + $59 = $248Yes, with Perplexity and Copilot as well

Best value: SE Visible Basic or Peec AI Starter, at $71 to $95 a month. Both have room to grow from 30 prompts, and neither charges per user.

If the budget is tighter, Otterly Lite at $29 covers 15 prompts. That is enough for a first baseline on your most important service before you commit.

Worked example 2: an agency

A marketing agency manages 10 local clients. Each client needs 40 prompts, so the agency tracks 400 prompts daily on at least four engines, with unlimited team logins.

OptionPlanMonthly costFits?
SE VisibleAgency$399 monthly or $319 annualYes: 1,000 prompts, 30 projects, 5 engines
Otterly.AIPremium$489 monthlyYes: 400 prompts, 4 engines, unlimited workspaces
Peec AIAdvanced$495 monthlyNo: 350 prompts and 5 projects
WritesonicGrowth (annual)$399No: 200 prompts, 2 projects

Best value: SE Visible Agency, at roughly $32 to $40 per client per month. It also leaves room for 600 more prompts. Peec's agency plans are built for this use case, but the page doesn't publish dollar prices.

Agencies should also budget time. Someone has to build each client's prompt set, review results and turn them into fixes. Our AI visibility tools for agency delivery post covers the reporting side.

Checklist before you buy

  • Write down your prompts first. Our AI visibility audit guide shows how.
  • Count the engines your buyers use. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews are the usual minimum.
  • Multiply prompts x engines x 30 to estimate monthly answers or checks.
  • Count everyone who needs a login, including clients.
  • Check whether the price shown is monthly or annual, and whether add-ons are needed.
  • Confirm refresh frequency. Daily is standard; weekly saves money but misses swings.
  • Ask whether you can export data or use an API if you report in Looker Studio.
  • Start monthly, then switch to annual once you know the tool fits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest AI visibility tool?

Among paid plans, Otterly.AI Lite ($29/mo, 15 prompts), Wellows Basic ($29/mo) and Elmo Cloud Starter ($29/mo, ChatGPT only) were the lowest we found. Elmo is also free to self-host if you have technical help.

Why are some AI visibility tools so expensive?

Each prompt costs the vendor money to run on every engine, every day. More engines, more prompts and daily refresh multiply that cost. Enterprise plans also add support, SSO, exports and long data history.

Should I pay for every AI engine?

Not at first. Track ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, then add Gemini and AI Mode. Add Perplexity, Claude or Copilot only if your buyers use them. Our best AI visibility tools list shows which plans include which engines.

Is a tool enough to improve AI visibility?

No. A tool measures where you appear; it doesn't change it. Content, citations and technical fixes do, which is the work behind our generative engine optimization services. A free GEO audit is a good first step before you pay for tracking.
