Connecting ChatGPT to HubSpot lets you ask questions about your contacts, deals and campaigns in plain English. It can also create and update CRM records and log activities, with your approval. HubSpot publishes its own connector for ChatGPT, so you sign in rather than configure a server.

Key Takeaways
- HubSpot says its connector for ChatGPT is available to all HubSpot customers across all tiers who have an OpenAI account.
- Super Admins and users with App Marketplace Access can connect without prior approval. Everyone else needs a Super Admin to approve the connector first.
- The connector can read, create and update CRM records, log calls, meetings, notes, tasks and emails, and work with campaigns and pages. It cannot delete.
- HubSpot recommends setting the connector's write tools to require approval, and bulk changes are capped at 10 records per request.
- If your account has Sensitive Data turned on, HubSpot says ChatGPT cannot access any engagement data.
Before you start
HubSpot's connector guide lists these requirements:
- A HubSpot account, any tier. The connector "is available to all HubSpot customers across all tiers with an OpenAI account."
- The right HubSpot permission. Super Admins and users with App Marketplace Access permissions can connect without prior approval. For all other users, a Super Admin must first approve the connector. During approval, the Super Admin picks which data permissions the connector gets and who can install it.
- A ChatGPT account that can use the app. OpenAI's connected apps page says availability "depends on the app, your ChatGPT plan, region, workspace, role, model, and the ChatGPT interface you use." In ChatGPT Business, many apps are enabled by default. In Enterprise and Edu, an admin may need to enable it.
HubSpot also notes that all requests count against HubSpot's API usage limits.
Steps
HubSpot's guide still shows ChatGPT's older Apps label. OpenAI's current page uses Plugins and says very old mobile app versions may show Apps instead. Use whichever your account shows.
- In ChatGPT, select your profile icon, then Settings.
- Open Plugins (HubSpot's guide says Apps).
- Select HubSpot. If shown, select Install plugin, then Connect.
- In the dialog box, click Continue to HubSpot.
- Sign in with your HubSpot login.
- Select the HubSpot account you want to connect.
- On the Connecting HubSpot Connector for ChatGPT to HubSpot page, select the permissions you want to allow, then click Connect App.
- You return to ChatGPT, and the connector is ready.
HubSpot's FAQ says the "HubSpot App" in ChatGPT and the HubSpot connector are the same thing.
To use it, open the + menu in the composer and choose HubSpot, or mention it with @. HubSpot adds that including the word "HubSpot" in a prompt turns the connector on automatically.
What about HubSpot's remote MCP server?
HubSpot also runs a remote MCP server at https://mcp.hubspot.com. Its developer guide requires you to create an MCP connector in HubSpot and enter a redirect URL that matches your client. Neither HubSpot's guide nor OpenAI's pages list a ChatGPT redirect URL, so the connector above is the documented ChatGPT route. The developer guide does name ChatGPT as one of three clients that can use its page and blog editing tools.
Check that it works
Start with a read-only question, then try one small write. HubSpot's guide advises updating a single record before any bulk change.
Example prompts:
- "Using HubSpot, list the deals in my pipeline that are expected to close this month."
- "In HubSpot, summarize the recent calls and notes on the Acme Corp company record."
- "Create a HubSpot task to follow up with Jane Smith next Tuesday." ChatGPT should show the proposed change and ask you to confirm.
HubSpot says that after a write, ChatGPT returns a link to the record so you can check it in HubSpot.
Permissions and safety
- Your HubSpot permissions apply. HubSpot says users "will only see in ChatGPT the CRM data they're allowed to access in HubSpot."
- No deletes. HubSpot's object tables show read, create and update rights, but no delete for any object.
- Approve writes. HubSpot recommends setting Write tools to Needs Approval in the connector's settings in ChatGPT. It warns that with Always allow, edits may happen without asking.
- ChatGPT's own settings. OpenAI's app permissions page lists Always ask, Allow read actions, Allow low-risk actions and Allow all actions. Allow all actions "carries elevated risk."
- Audit trail. HubSpot says every write is attributed in the audit log to both the user and the ChatGPT connector. Super Admins can also see who connected and when.
- Validation rules are skipped. Custom validation rules, including pipeline stage and association label rules, aren't applied to changes made through the connector.
Emails and chat transcripts can carry hidden instructions. Read about MCP prompt injection and the MCP Security Center before you let ChatGPT write to your CRM.
If it doesn't work
- You can't connect. Ask a Super Admin to approve the connector or grant App Marketplace Access.
- New data isn't showing. After a Super Admin updates the connector's data permissions, HubSpot says each user must reconnect.
- Activities are missing. If Sensitive Data is on, HubSpot blocks engagement data in ChatGPT.
- Page data looks thin. Only published pages and posts have full data. For per-page performance, name the campaign and date range in your prompt.
- ChatGPT says "Disabled by admin" or "Admin approval required." OpenAI's troubleshooting page says to ask your workspace admin to review the app.
To disconnect, HubSpot's guide says to open ChatGPT Settings, find HubSpot in your enabled apps, and click Disconnect.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid HubSpot plan to connect ChatGPT?
No. HubSpot says the connector is available to all HubSpot customers across all tiers who have an OpenAI account. Your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings still decide whether the app is available to you.
Can ChatGPT delete HubSpot records?
No. HubSpot's guide lists read, create and update access, with no delete rights on any object. Bulk creates and updates are limited to 10 records per request.
Does OpenAI train on my HubSpot data?
HubSpot says connector data from Enterprise, Business and Education plans is not used for training. On Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, you can opt out in ChatGPT settings. Otherwise, HubSpot says OpenAI may use connector data to improve connector performance.
Does the connector respect EU data hosting?
Yes, according to HubSpot. It says the connector respects your data center location, so EU-hosted accounts are routed through the EU data center.
