MCP Examples: 25 Real Business Uses by Department

This article is part of our MCP Guide: what the Model Context Protocol is, how to use it safely, and how to choose servers, tools and help. Want a second opinion on your setup? Request a free MCP readiness review.

MCP examples are easiest to understand by department. A marketer asks an AI app to pull last month's Google Analytics numbers. A bookkeeper asks it to draft an invoice in Xero. A developer asks it to triage GitHub issues. In each case, an MCP server connects the AI app to the tool.

Below are 25 real business uses. Each one names a real MCP server, links to the vendor's own documentation, and notes a limit or safeguard worth knowing. We checked each against the vendor's docs on 28 October 2026. We did not install or test these servers for this article.

Key Takeaways

  • Many software vendors now publish official MCP servers, so you can often connect the tools you already pay for.
  • Most examples here use remote, vendor-hosted servers that sign you in with OAuth instead of a pasted key.
  • Several vendors build in safeguards, such as read-only modes, scoped access or human confirmation for risky actions.
  • Some servers are labeled beta or experimental, so check status before you rely on them.
  • Two examples involve eSEOspace: we built LedgerMCP, and BalanceMCP is an eSEOspace marketing client.

Marketing

1. Ask Google Analytics questions in plain English

The Google Analytics MCP server lets an AI app run standard, funnel and realtime reports through tools like run_report. It is labeled experimental and runs locally. Credentials use the read-only Analytics scope, with one write tool for annotations behind an opt-in flag.

2. Review email campaign and flow performance

Klaviyo's MCP server lets you ask things like "Show me the performance of my email campaigns from the last 30 days." Its docs also show drafting a new campaign. Klaviyo recommends its remote-hosted server, with a local option available.

3. Update SEO metadata across your website

The Webflow MCP server can update meta titles, descriptions and Open Graph tags across pages. It can also manage CMS items and pages. Webflow says every agent works within your existing permissions, and each authorization covers one workspace.

4. Create and resize on-brand designs

According to Canva's developer docs, its MCP server can create designs from text, edit them with plain instructions and use brand kits. It can export to PDF, PNG, JPG, PPTX and MP4 and resize for different channels. Useful for quick social variations.

Sales

5. Summarize deals in a pipeline stage

HubSpot's remote MCP server gives read and write access to contacts, companies, deals, tickets and engagements. Its example prompts include summarizing deals in a stage above a value threshold. Sensitive data properties are excluded, and some objects, like campaigns, are read-only.

6. Work with Salesforce data through hosted servers

Salesforce offers hosted MCP servers that let assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT reach Salesforce data and logic. Its GitHub README says they are generally available. Admins enable servers and can attach APIs and Flows, which keeps control with your Salesforce team.

7. Find what was said about an account in Slack

The Slack MCP server can search messages and files, read channel and thread history, and send or schedule messages. Only Slack Marketplace or internal apps may use it. Each tool needs a specific user permission, such as search:read.public for search.

Customer support

8. Triage open support conversations

Intercom's MCP server can search and fetch conversations, contacts, companies and Help Center articles. It can also add internal notes that only teammates see. As of October 2026, it supports US and EU workspaces but not Australian-hosted ones.

9. Look up a customer's orders before replying

The Square MCP server connects AI tools to Square data such as customers, orders and items. Block hosts the remote version, which supports OAuth sign-in with limited scopes. Square labels the server as beta.

Finance and accounting

10. Draft invoices and review payments in Stripe

Stripe's MCP server can read and write many Stripe objects, including customers, invoices, subscriptions and refunds. Stripe requires human confirmation before certain actions, such as refunds and outbound payments. Stripe says that from December 2026 its MCP server will stop accepting full-access secret keys and restricted keys without the Agent tag, in favor of OAuth or agent API keys.

11. List and create PayPal invoices

PayPal's MCP server docs show an AI app listing last month's invoices and creating a new one for a customer. You can run it locally or connect to PayPal's hosted server. A sandbox setting lets you test before using live data.

12. Pull profit and loss and balance sheet reports

The Xero MCP server includes tools for contacts, invoices, profit and loss and balance sheet reports. It also has payroll tools, but its README says payroll queries require a New Zealand or UK organisation.

13. Check aged receivables in QuickBooks Online

Intuit publishes a local QuickBooks Online MCP server with tools for invoices, customers and reports such as aged receivables. Setup requires an app on the Intuit Developer Portal. Environment settings can switch off write, update or delete tools.

14. Categorize and reconcile transactions in LedgerMCP

LedgerMCP (built by eSEOspace) is bookkeeping software with a built-in MCP server. Its site says an AI can categorize transactions in bulk, flag uncertain ones and reconcile accounts. AI changes are logged and can be reversed. See our LedgerMCP client spotlight.

15. Import a bank statement and check the balances

BalanceMCP (eSEOspace marketing client) lets you hand your AI a PDF or CSV statement. Its site says imported rows are checked against the statement's opening and closing balances, and mismatches are flagged. The journal is append-only. See our BalanceMCP client spotlight.

Ecommerce

16. Let AI shopping agents search your catalog

Shopify exposes store catalog, cart and policy tools to AI agents over MCP. Per Shopify's developer docs, the older Storefront MCP tools were removed and replaced by endpoints with tools like search_catalog and create_cart. Check the current docs before building. See MCP for ecommerce.

Operations and project management

17. See your unfinished tasks due this week

Asana's MCP server answers prompts like "Pull up your unfinished tasks due this week" and can add tasks to projects. Asana says its older beta server is deprecated, with a listed shutdown date of 05/11/2026, so use the V2 endpoint.

18. Turn meeting notes into Jira work items

The Atlassian MCP server connects Jira, Confluence and other Atlassian apps. Its examples include creating several Jira work items from meeting notes and summarizing a Confluence page. Atlassian says actions respect each user's existing permissions.

19. Run actions across thousands of apps

Zapier MCP connects AI apps to the tools you use through Zapier's catalog. Zapier claims more than 9,000 apps. Its page says each tool call uses two tasks from your plan's task quota, so heavy use can affect your Zapier bill.

Knowledge and HR

20. Search and update the company wiki

Notion MCP is a remote server hosted by Notion. It can search, read, create and update pages and databases that your account can reach. HR and operations teams can use it to answer policy questions from a handbook. Workspace owners can manage and revoke client access.

21. Search company files and ask Box AI

The Box MCP server is hosted by Box and gives agents tools for search, Box AI and folders. An admin must enable MCP in the Box Admin Console first. Box says its older self-hosted server is deprecated.

Engineering, design and website teams

22. Triage GitHub issues and pull requests

The GitHub MCP Server works with repositories, issues, pull requests and Actions. GitHub hosts a remote version. A read-only flag skips every write tool, which is a sensible default for reporting and triage.

23. Investigate production errors

The Sentry MCP server helps an AI search errors, analyze performance and triage issues. You can scope the server to one organization or one project, and Sentry recommends project scoping where possible.

24. Turn a design frame into code

The Figma MCP server gives coding agents design context, such as variables, components and layout. You can select a frame and generate code from it. Plan and seat requirements differ for the remote and desktop versions.

25. Test a website flow in a real browser

Microsoft's Playwright MCP lets an AI control a browser. It reads the page's accessibility tree rather than screenshots, so it can click and type by element. Website teams can use it to walk through forms and checkout paths. See our MCP servers for website teams.

What these examples have in common

A few patterns show up across vendors:

  • Remote and hosted is now common. Most servers above run on the vendor's side and use OAuth sign-in.
  • Least privilege is built in. GitHub, Linear, Supabase and Stripe each document read-only modes, limited scopes or approval steps.
  • Labels matter. Google Analytics MCP is experimental and Square's is beta. Treat those as trials, not core infrastructure.

Before connecting any of these, run through our checklist for choosing MCP servers.

Next step

Marketing is where many small teams start, because the data is useful and most actions are low risk. Read MCP for marketing teams to see how GA4, Search Console, HubSpot and ad platforms fit together.

Frequently asked questions

Are these official MCP servers?

Each example links to documentation published by the vendor itself, such as GitHub, Stripe or HubSpot. LedgerMCP and BalanceMCP are products whose MCP servers are part of the product. eSEOspace built LedgerMCP; we did not build any of the other servers.

Do I need a developer to set these up?

Usually not for remote servers. You add the server URL in your AI app and sign in. Local servers, like the QuickBooks Online and Google Analytics servers above, need some technical setup, such as installing Node.js or Python and registering an app.

Which example is the safest to start with?

Start with read-only tasks, such as analytics questions or issue triage. Turn on read-only modes where offered, such as GitHub's read-only flag. Leave tool approvals on for anything that sends money, emails or deletes data.

Do these servers cost extra?

It varies. Many servers come with your existing plan, but some vendors set limits. Zapier, for example, counts each MCP tool call against your task quota. Check each vendor's pricing page before you roll out to a team.

Can I combine several servers in one conversation?

Yes. An AI app can connect to several servers at once, with one client per server. For example, it could read a deal in HubSpot and then create a task in Asana. Each connection uses its own permissions.

Why are some examples labeled beta or experimental?

MCP is still young, and vendors are releasing servers quickly. A beta label means features or endpoints may change. Re-check the vendor docs before you build a workflow around one.
