Wix form not sending emails? How to fix it
Wix form not sending emails? How to fix it

When a Wix form stops emailing you, the form itself is usually working. The notification email is sent by a Wix Automation attached to the form, not by a setting on the form, and that is where most problems sit. The two most common causes are that the email went to your spam folder, or that the automation is sending to an old or wrong address.
So check two things first. Look in Spam or Junk for a message from a Wix address. Then go to Automations in your site's dashboard, open the automation with your form's name, and check the Recipients field in its Send an email action.
Before either, confirm that submissions are being received at all. Go to Forms & Submissions in your dashboard and view the form's submissions. If the entries are there, no leads have been lost, and you only need to fix the email. The steps below go through each cause in order.
Key Takeaways
- Form notifications are sent by a Wix Automation. Recipients are edited in the automation's Send an email action, not on the form.
- Changing your Wix account email does not update the recipients in form automations. Each automation has to be edited.
- Wix states that "Publishing your site does not publish automation changes." Automation edits are saved in the automation builder.
- Submissions caught by the form's spam filter do not trigger notification emails. They sit in the form's Spam tab for 30 days before being deleted.
- The number of people a form can notify depends on your plan: up to 2 recipients on Light, 7 on Core and 20 on Business and Business Elite, as of October 2026.
- Wix does not document a custom SMTP option for form emails. Sender identity is handled by connecting an email channel in Wix Inbox.
Step 1: confirm the submission arrived
This tells you whether you have a form problem or an email problem.
- Go to Forms & Submissions in your site's dashboard.
- Find the form, click More Actions and choose View submissions.
- Send a test submission from your live site, using an email address different from the one that receives notifications.
- Refresh the table and look for the test entry. In new Wix Forms the table has three tabs: Submissions, Spam and Trash. Check all three.
If the test appears under Submissions, the form works and the notification is the problem. Continue with Step 2. If it appears under Spam, go to Step 5. If it doesn't appear anywhere, go to the section on submissions that don't show up.
Step 2: look in spam and allow Wix's sending addresses
Wix's own Wix Forms troubleshooting guide starts here.
Wix's help pages name more than one sender for form notifications, so search your Spam or Junk folder for all of these:
- notifications@wix-forms.com
- no-reply@wixsiteautomations.com
- reply-to@wixforms.com
If you find the messages there, mark them as not spam. Then add Wix's sending addresses to your email provider's safe senders list, which is sometimes called an allowlist or whitelist. Wix lists these, and says to keep the asterisk:
- *@automations.ascendbywix.com
- *@crm.wix.com
- *@wixforms.com
- no-reply@test.wixshoutout.com
Wix's instructions then say to republish your site.
One more cause sits in this category. Wix advises: "If the sender and recipient email are the same, change the recipient email. Some email providers treat these messages as spam." If notifications are sent from and to the same address, change one of them.
If messages keep landing in spam after this, the cause is deliverability, which we cover in Wix emails going to spam.
Step 3: check who the automation is sending to
By default, when someone submits a form, an email is sent automatically to the site owner. That default is an automation, and its recipient list does not follow you around. Wix is explicit that changing your Wix account email does not update the recipients in form automations.
- Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.
- Find the automation for your form. Pre-installed ones are listed under App automations and carry the form's name.
- Hover over it, click More Actions and choose Edit.
- Click the Send an email action.
- Click Show additional settings, then Edit next to Recipients.
- Check each address for typos, remove people who have left, and add anyone who is missing.
- Save your changes in the automation builder. Publishing the site does not publish automation changes.
Things that catch people out at this step:
- Adding a recipient does not remove existing ones. Old addresses stay until you delete them.
- You may be editing the wrong automation. If your changes seem to be ignored, the change was probably made in a different automation from the one that is sending. Look under App automations for the pre-installed one with the form's name.
- Recipients who aren't collaborators must be contacts first. They don't need to be collaborators on the site, but Wix requires that they be added as contacts.
- Role-based recipients can be empty. If the recipient is a collaborator role, nobody gets the email when the role has no one assigned, when the invite is still pending, or when the person lacks Wix Inbox permissions.
Wix's article on choosing who gets notified about form submissions shows these screens.
Step 4: check that the automation is active and has run
An automation can exist and still not be running.
- Is it active? In the Automations list, confirm the automation is turned on. A deactivated automation collects no trigger data, so submissions made while it was off will not send notifications later.
- Has it run? Open the automation's activity or run log. "No runs yet" means it has never fired, which points to a trigger problem.
- Did you save your changes in the right place? Remember that publishing the site does not publish automation changes.
- Is it the right trigger? Old Wix Forms and new Wix Forms use different "Form submitted" triggers. If you choose the wrong one, your form won't appear in the trigger's list.
- Was the form duplicated? A duplicated form is a separate form. It sends nothing until it is connected to an automation of its own.
The run log also splits the problem neatly. If it shows the email was sent and you still didn't get it, Wix says the issue is "usually related to delivery for the recipient address": the mailbox, the provider's settings, the sender and recipient addresses, domain authentication or spam filtering. In that case go back to Step 2. If the log shows nothing was sent, stay with the automation.
For more on how triggers and actions fit together, see Wix Automations: what to automate first.
Step 5: check the form's spam filter
New Wix Forms have built-in spam filters, and Wix states plainly: "Submissions caught by your spam filter do not trigger notification emails." A real inquiry flagged as spam is saved, but you won't hear about it.
- Open the form's submissions and click the Spam tab.
- If a real submission is there, mark it with Report as not spam.
- If it keeps happening, open Edit Form, go to Settings and then Spam filter settings, and choose a lower level.
| Spam filter level | What it does |
|---|---|
| Only reCAPTCHA | Lowest. Invisible reCAPTCHA, with a challenge only if a bot is suspected |
| Basic and reCAPTCHA | Middle level |
| Advanced and reCAPTCHA | Highest level |
Spam submissions stay in the Spam tab for 30 days and are then permanently deleted, so look there regularly if your form gets real inquiries that resemble spam. Form protection is one part of a wider setup we cover in our Wix security guide.
Step 6: check your plan limits and email quota
Two kinds of limit can quietly stop notifications.
Recipient limits by plan
Wix caps how many people one form can notify. These are the limits Wix publishes as of October 2026:
| Plan | Forms | Submission email recipients |
|---|---|---|
| Light | 4 | Up to 2 |
| Core | 10 | Up to 7 |
| Business | 25 | Up to 20 |
| Business Elite | 75 | Up to 20 |
Wix Studio plans follow the same pattern, from 2 recipients on Basic to 20 on Plus and Elite. The figures come from Wix's article on upgrading Wix Forms. Your current form count against your plan's limit is shown at Forms & Submissions. Wix publishes no per-plan cap on the number of submissions a form can receive. The only submission limit it documents is one you set yourself, under the form's Settings, in Limit Submissions. If someone turned that on, the form stops accepting entries at the count or date they chose.
The monthly email balance
Emails sent by custom automations count against your site's monthly email allowance, which is 200 emails a month on the free email marketing tier. Wix says that when the monthly quota is used up, custom automations stop sending emails. Automations that Wix installs with an app, listed under App automations, are not deducted from the balance.
So if you replaced the pre-installed notification with a custom automation and you also send newsletters, a large campaign can use up the allowance and stop your custom form emails until the balance resets. You can see usage under Manage Quotas in Automations. Allowances and upgrades are covered in Wix Email Marketing: plans, limits and setup.
When submissions don't show up at all
If your test from Step 1 never reached the submissions table, the cause depends on the form version.
- Old Wix Forms: the submissions table only shows entries collected after the table was created. If there is no table, create one in the editor from the form's Form Settings with Create Submissions Table, then publish. The table data loads from the last time you published, so publish and refresh to see new entries.
- Old forms with a deleted collection: if the CMS collection behind the form was deleted, the table has to be recreated.
- A form that can't be completed: on mobile, another element may be overlapping the fields or the submit button. Our guide to fixing mobile layout problems on Wix shows how to find it.
- Unpublished changes: if you edited the form and didn't publish the site, visitors are still using the previous version.
Other notification problems
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Two emails for every submission | Two active automations on the same form, usually a custom one plus the pre-installed one | Deactivate one of them |
| You can't reply to the person who submitted | The reply-to address is not the submitter's | In the automation's sender details, enable Dynamic reply-to email and select the contact's email |
| No alert in Wix Inbox | The automation has no Inbox step, which is the default for old forms | Add a Show in Inbox action |
| The customer didn't get their confirmation email | The contact may have bounced or unsubscribed | Look for a red "Bounced" warning on the contact |
Sending from your own address
Owners often ask whether they can route form emails through their own mail server, known as custom SMTP. Wix does not document a custom SMTP option on its help pages.
What Wix does offer is an email channel in Wix Inbox. When you connect an email channel such as Gmail, Outlook or a business email, Wix says outgoing emails from your site, including contact form responses, are sent from that address. Channels can only be connected on desktop. If you don't have an address on your own domain yet, see business email on a Wix site.
Conclusion
A Wix form that seems not to send is nearly always a notification problem, not a lost lead. Confirm the submission is in Forms & Submissions, check spam and allow Wix's sending addresses, then open the automation and fix its recipients. After that, check that the automation is active, that the form's spam filter isn't holding real inquiries, and that you're within your recipient limit and email balance. Send a test submission after every change. If form leads matter to your business and you'd like the whole path checked from form to inbox, our Wix website services include form and automation setup. Frequently asked questions
Where do Wix form submissions go?
Every submission is stored in the form's submissions table, which you reach from Forms & Submissions in your dashboard. Each submission also creates a contact in your contact list. The email notification is a separate step sent by an automation.
How do I change the email address my Wix form sends to?
Go to Automations, edit the automation for the form, open the Send an email action, click Show additional settings and edit Recipients. Changing your Wix account email does not change it for you.
Why did my Wix form notifications suddenly stop?
Common causes are an automation that was deactivated or edited, a recipient whose address changed, emails now going to spam, real submissions being caught by the form's spam filter, or a custom automation that has run out of monthly email balance. Check the automation's run log first.
Can I send Wix form notifications to more than one person?
Yes, up to your plan's limit: 2 recipients on Light, 7 on Core and 20 on Business and Business Elite, as of October 2026. People who aren't collaborators must be added as contacts first.
Does Wix support custom SMTP for form emails?
Wix does not document a custom SMTP option. You can connect an email channel such as Gmail, Outlook or a business email in Wix Inbox, and Wix says outgoing site emails are then sent from that address.
