Claude Code for marketing teams: the jobs it does well and the review it needs

By: Irina Shvaya | October 14, 2026
This article is part of our Claude Code Guide: what Claude Code is, how to use it safely on a business website, and how to budget for and choose help. Want it set up for your team? See Claude Code consulting.

Claude Code is useful to a marketing team when the job involves files: landing page code, spreadsheets of ad copy, tracking scripts, exported reports and the website itself. It reads those files, makes changes, runs commands and checks its own work. A marketer can direct it in plain English, and Anthropic's own growth marketing team does exactly that.

It is not a campaign strategist, a brand owner or a compliance reviewer. The jobs that suit it are repeatable and checkable: build a page variant, rewrite 200 ad headlines to a character limit, wire up a tracking event, turn a CSV export into a weekly summary. The jobs that don't suit it are the ones where a wrong answer reaches customers before a person sees it.

Below are the jobs worth handing over, a small-team setup and the review gates to set first. If you are new to the tool, start with whether non-developers can use Claude Code.

Key Takeaways

  • Anthropic's growth marketing team uses Claude Code. In a January 2026 post, growth marketer Austin Lau says, "You don't need to know how to code," and describes an ad workflow where "What used to take 30 minutes per ad now takes 30 seconds." That is Anthropic's own team, not a result to expect by default.
  • The best marketing jobs are bulk and rule-based: ad copy files, landing page variants, UTM and tracking checks, and report summaries from exported data.
  • Claude Code needs a paid plan. As of October 2026, Pro is $20 a month billed monthly ($17 billed annually), and every Team seat includes Claude Code, from $25 per member per month billed monthly ($20 billed annually), with a two-member minimum.
  • With the Chrome extension, Claude Code can work in your signed-in browser, for example extracting web page data into a CSV.
  • Claude Code can draft review requests and testimonials pages, but it must never invent reviews. The FTC's final rule on fake reviews covers "AI-generated fake reviews" and lets the agency seek civil penalties against knowing violators.
  • Every change to the live site, tracking or ad accounts needs a person to review it first. Work in git, on a copy of the site.

What Anthropic's own marketers use it for

In "How Anthropic teams use Claude Code" (July 24, 2025), the growth marketing workflow "processes CSV files with hundreds of ads, identifies underperformers" and, "Using two specialized sub-agents, the system generates hundreds of new ads in minutes instead of hours." The same post describes a Figma plugin that "programmatically generates up to 100 ad variations."

In "How Anthropic uses Claude in Marketing" (January 26, 2026), Austin Lau says: "Now, with a tool like Claude Code, as a non-technical marketer, I can actually go out and build these things." He describes a custom /rsa command that outputs a CSV of 15 headlines and 4 descriptions per ad. That post also gives figures for other marketing teams, but it does not tie those figures to Claude Code specifically, so don't read them as Claude Code results.

The work is file-based, and the output is a draft for a person to approve.

Marketing jobs that suit Claude Code

The broader list of website jobs is in what Claude Code can do for a business website. These are the ones a marketing team reaches for first.

JobWhat Claude Code doesWhat a person checks
Ad copy at volumeReads a CSV export, flags weak lines, writes variants to your character limits, saves a new CSVClaims, brand voice, offers that are actually running
Landing page variantsCopies an existing page template, swaps headline, copy and form, runs the buildThe page in a browser on a phone, the form, the tracking
UTM and link auditsScans campaign links in pages and emails for missing or inconsistent parametersThe naming convention itself
Tracking eventsAdds or fixes event code on forms and buttons, on a branchEvents firing in a test, with no personal data sent
Weekly reportsTurns exported CSVs into a summary with tables and notesEvery number against the source export

All five leave a file you can open afterward to see exactly what changed. That is what makes them safe to delegate.

Landing pages and campaign pages

If your site is built from files in a repository, Claude Code can create landing page variants from an existing template. Pages stored in a page builder's database need a route in, such as an export or an API, which takes extra setup.

A safe pattern for a new campaign page:

  1. Start a session in plan mode, where Claude researches and proposes changes without editing your files. Ask: Read the spring-offer landing page and propose a new variant for the October webinar. List every file you would change. Don't edit anything yet.
  2. Read the plan and correct anything wrong.
  3. Approve it, let it work on a branch, and ask it to run the build and fix any errors it caused.
  4. Open the preview in a browser, on desktop and on a phone. Submit the form. Check the thank-you page.
  5. Have a second person review the diff (the changed lines) before anything is merged.

The copy still needs a human editor. Google asks sites to fact-check all AI-generated content before publishing, including titles and meta descriptions; the editorial side is covered in Claude Code for content teams.

Ad copy files and bulk rewrites

Ad platforms export and import spreadsheets, so Claude Code can read an export, apply your rules and write a new file for you to review.

A prompt that works better than "write better ads" names the file, the rules and the check:

Read ads-export.csv. For each ad group, flag headlines over 30 characters or that repeat another headline. Write 5 replacement headlines per flagged group, each 30 characters or fewer, using only the offers listed in offers.md. Save to ads-proposed.csv with the old and new text side by side, and print a count of rows changed.

Keep approved claims, prices and offers in one file, such as offers.md, and tell Claude to use nothing else. And read the counts: if you expected 40 changed rows and it reports 400, stop and find out why.

If your team writes the same kind of instruction every week, turn it into a skill. Anthropic's docs say to create one "when you keep pasting the same instructions, checklist, or multi-step procedure into chat." The Anthropic team's /rsa command is that idea in practice.

Keep a person between the CSV and the ad account: uploading is where a mistake starts spending money.

Tracking, UTMs and analytics

A broken tracking event silently stops counting leads, and a careless one can send personal data to an analytics vendor. Treat every tracking change like a code change: on a branch, tested, reviewed.

Useful jobs here include auditing every form for a submit event, checking that campaign links carry consistent UTM parameters, and finding pages where a tag was pasted twice. The step-by-step setup for events and key events is in setting up GA4 events with Claude Code.

For reading data, Google publishes a Google Analytics MCP server, labeled experimental in its GitHub repository (MCP is the open standard for connecting AI tools to outside services). Google's page says it "is available for read requests only." Search Console data is available through Google's Search Console API. For reporting without any connection at all, export CSVs and let Claude Code work on the files. Our guide to Claude data analytics for small businesses covers that route.

Whatever the source, check report numbers against the original export before they go to anyone.

Working in the browser with Chrome

Claude Code "integrates with the Claude in Chrome browser extension to give you browser automation capabilities from the CLI or the VS Code extension." Anthropic's Chrome docs list marketing-friendly uses such as "Draft content in Google Docs" and "Extract data from web pages … Save the results as a CSV file."

Two facts matter before you turn it on. Claude "shares your browser's login state, so it can access any site you're already signed into." And it can record a session as a GIF that "captures everything visible in the browser, including account details on logged-in pages, so review it before sharing it outside your team." It requires a paid Claude plan and pauses at login pages and CAPTCHAs for you to handle.

Use it for reading and collecting first, and watch the first runs before it changes anything in an ad platform, CRM or email tool. Setup and limits are in Claude Code and Chrome.

Claims, reviews and testimonials

Claude Code will write a confident claim if you ask for one. A person has to confirm that every claim is true and can be backed up.

Reviews deserve special care. The FTC's final rule on fake reviews and testimonials, announced August 14, 2024, covers reviews "by someone who does not exist, such as AI-generated fake reviews, or who did not have actual experience with the business." Reviews from insiders must "clearly and conspicuously disclose the giver's material connection to the business." The rule also bars misrepresenting that the reviews on your site "represent all or most of the reviews submitted" when negative ones have been suppressed.

In practice: let Claude Code format and display real reviews you already have, or draft the email asking customers for one. Never ask it to write reviews, testimonials or "sample customer quotes" for publication. Anthropic's Usage Policy bars it too: the version in force until November 12, 2026 (effective September 15, 2025) prohibits "deceptive or misleading digital content such as fake reviews," and the update that takes effect November 12, 2026 keeps "fake reviews" on its list of prohibited deception. This is a description of the rules, not legal advice; for regulated claims, ask your counsel.

Setting up a small marketing team

For a team, a Team plan keeps accounts, billing and data terms in the business's name. Full plan details are in Claude Code pricing and plans. Team usage falls under Anthropic's commercial terms, under which Anthropic does not train models on your code or prompts unless you choose to share data. Usage limits are shared with Claude chat.

The desktop app's Code tab lets marketers work without a terminal. A simple setup:

  • One repository for the site, with a CLAUDE.md file of standing instructions: brand rules, where offers live, which folders are off limits.
  • A shared facts file for prices, phone numbers and offers, so one change updates everything.
  • Permission rules that stop Claude reading files with passwords or API keys, and that ask before any git push.
  • A named reviewer for each kind of change: copy, tracking, page code.

Review gates to set before you start

Write these gates down before the first session.

ChangeGate before it ships
Copy and claimsEditor confirms every fact, price and offer against the source
Landing pagesBuild passes, preview checked on phone and desktop, form submitted, diff reviewed
Tracking codeEvents tested on a preview, no personal data in event parameters, developer review
Ad and email uploadsPerson compares the proposed file to the export and uploads it themselves
ReportsKey numbers checked against the original export
Anything in the browserRead-only first; changes in a tool only after watched trial runs

Anthropic's own security page puts it plainly: "You're responsible for reviewing proposed code and commands for safety before approval."

Conclusion

Claude Code gives a marketing team a way to do file-based work at volume: ad copy, page variants, tracking checks and reports. It does that work well when the rules are written down, the facts come from one approved file, and a person reviews every change before it reaches customers, an ad account or the live site. Start with one repeatable job and add more only when the review process holds up. If your team wants a structured rollout, eSEOspace's Claude Code consulting covers setup, permissions and training. Frequently asked questions

Do marketers need to learn to code to use Claude Code?

No. You describe the change in plain English and Claude writes the code. You do need git basics, a copy of the site, the ability to read a diff and a way to roll back. The desktop app removes the need for a terminal.

Can Claude Code post ads or send emails directly?

Through the Chrome extension it can work in a browser you are signed into, but that doesn't mean it should. Keep it producing files and drafts, and have a person upload, schedule and send.

Is our customer data used to train Anthropic's models?

On Team, Enterprise and API accounts, which fall under Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic does not train models on your code or prompts unless you opt in to share data. On Free, Pro and Max accounts, a training setting applies and you can turn it off. Don't paste customer lists into a session unless your data policy allows it.

Can Claude Code write customer testimonials for our site?

It should not. The FTC's fake reviews rule covers AI-generated reviews and testimonials from people who don't exist or lack real experience with the business. Use Claude Code to display real reviews or draft the request asking customers for one.

What is a good first project for a marketing team?

A report or an ad copy file. Both start from an export, end as a file you can compare to the original and touch nothing live. Then move to landing page variants on a branch.
