Wix POS: selling in person

This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

Wix POS lets you take payments in person from the same catalog, inventory and sales history as your Wix online store. POS stands for point of sale: the hardware and software you use to ring up a customer at a counter, a market stall or a client's home. Wix offers three ways to do it: a full countertop setup called POS Register, a handheld device called POS Go, and mobile POS, which runs in the Wix app on your phone.

It is available to businesses in the US, Canada and the UK (except Northern Ireland) that are connected to Wix Payments. In the US, as of October 2026, a card reader sale costs 2.6% with no fixed fee, and Tap to Pay on a phone costs 2.6% + $0.20.

There are costs beyond processing. Hardware runs from $69 for a mobile card reader to $1,699 for a complete register, and POS Register and POS Go need a POS Premium plan at $19 a month to accept cards. This guide covers each option, what it costs, and how inventory stays in sync.

Key Takeaways

  • Wix POS is available in the US, Canada and the UK (except Northern Ireland), and requires Wix Payments.
  • Three options: POS Register for a counter, POS Go as a standalone handheld, and mobile POS in the Wix app.
  • US in-person rates as of October 2026: 2.6% + $0 with a card reader, 2.6% + $0.20 for Tap to Pay, 3.5% + $0.30 for manual card entry.
  • The POS Premium plan costs $19 a month and applies to POS Register and POS Go. Without it, those devices can take cash only.
  • US hardware prices range from $69 for a Mobile Card Reader to $1,699 for the Complete POS Register.
  • In-person sales of Wix Stores products sync automatically with your online catalog and inventory.

What Wix POS is, and who can use it

Wix POS is Wix's own in-person selling system. It is tied to Wix Payments, Wix's payment processor. If your site uses Stripe or another provider for online card payments, you can't run Wix POS through it. POS Register processes payments through Wix Payments only.

Availability, according to Wix's POS page: US, Canada and UK-based users, except Northern Ireland, who are connected to Wix Payments. Because Wix Payments has its own eligibility rules and a list of prohibited business types, check that your business qualifies for Wix Payments first. We cover that in Wix Payments fees and payment options.

If Wix POS isn't available to you, Wix points to SumUp and Square as alternatives for in-person sales.

You also need a paid site plan. If the site's plan lapses, Wix POS can't accept payments.

POS Register

POS Register is the full setup for a brick-and-mortar business. A tablet and a card reader are required, and other devices are optional. The software comes pre-installed. It works only with Wix's own listed hardware, so you can't reuse a tablet or printer you already own.

It supports multiple physical locations, staff members with their own passcodes and roles, and redemption of gift cards in store.

POS Go

POS Go is a handheld device with a color touchscreen. You can browse your catalog on it and take cash or card payments. It handles custom charges, discounts, tips, turning tax on or off, sales history and refunds, and it can switch between sites in one Wix account.

It works in two ways: on its own, or as the card reader for a POS Register. Used on its own, it works only with Wix Stores.

Mobile POS and Tap to Pay

Mobile POS uses the Wix app. You either pair the Mobile Card Reader or use Tap to Pay, where the customer taps their card or phone on your phone and no extra hardware is needed.

Tap to Pay requires Wix Payments and the Wix app, on an iPhone XR or later running iOS 15.5 or higher, or on Android 11 or later. It is available in the US.

To set it up:

  1. In your site's dashboard, go to Accept Payments and click Accept next to Tap to Pay on mobile.
  2. Open the Wix app and go to Manage → Getting Paid → Point of Sale.
  3. Tap the Connect icon and activate Tap to Pay.

Hardware prices in the US

These are the prices on Wix's US hardware shop as of October 2026. They are one-time purchases, before tax.

ItemPriceWhat's included
Complete POS Register$1,699.00Terminal, cash drawer, barcode scanner, receipt printer, Bluetooth mobile card reader and dock
Essential POS Register$1,199.00Tablet with customer display, Wix POS software, compact card reader and charging dock
Wix POS Go$399.00Handheld device
Mobile Card Reader + Dock$99.00Reader and dock
Mobile Card Reader$69.00Reader only
Dock$39.00Dock only
Epson receipt printer$269.00Accessory
Bluetooth barcode scanner$329.00Accessory
Zebra wired scanner$239.00Accessory
Cash drawer$129.00Accessory

The hardware includes the software, with no separate software fee, and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. It also carries a limited warranty. Wix's pages give different warranty lengths in different places, so confirm the term for the specific item on its product page before you buy.

Processing fees for in-person sales

In-person payments run through Wix Payments. The US rates as of October 2026, from Wix's service fees page:

How the card is takenFeeFee on a $50 sale
Wix POS card reader2.6% + $0$1.30
Tap to Pay on a phone2.6% + $0.20$1.50
Manual card entry3.5% + $0.30$2.05
Manual card entry, American Express4.3% + $0.30$2.45
For comparison: online card payment2.9% + $0.30$1.75

The last column is our arithmetic. Two things stand out. In-person card reader sales cost less than online sales: the percentage is lower and there is no fixed fee. And typing a card number in by hand is the most expensive way to take a payment, so use the reader whenever the card is present.

The POS Premium plan

On top of hardware and processing, POS Register and POS Go have a monthly plan. Wix's help center calls it the POS Premium plan. It costs $19 a month, and you upgrade from your site's dashboard.

What it changes, according to Wix's article on the POS plan:

  • Card payments. To accept credit or debit cards, gift cards or manual card entry on a POS device, you need the plan. Without it, the device takes cash only.
  • Cash limits. Without the plan, cash payments on POS Go and on the New Wix POS app are limited to a total of $10,000. POS Register has no cash limit.
  • More staff members. Each can have their own passcode.
  • Order editing. Add, remove or change products in a customer's order.
  • Staff hour tracking.
  • Loyalty in store. Customers can earn and redeem loyalty points at your physical location as well as online.

Three details to get right:

  • The POS plan is in addition to your site plan. It doesn't replace it. Selling online still requires a paid site plan.
  • For POS Go, Wix says users who started before September 22, 2026 can continue without the plan. Anyone starting on or after that date needs it.
  • The number of staff members can't be more than the number of collaborators your site plan allows: 5 on Core, 10 on Business and 100 on Business Elite. To check yours, go to Roles & Permissions in the dashboard and click Invite Collaborators.

Wix's marketing page uses a different name for this plan and describes its scope a little differently from the help center. We have followed the help center article, which is the more detailed of the two. Confirm the current terms in your dashboard before you buy hardware.

What a shop pays in the first year

Here is an illustration for a small US shop with one counter that already runs a Wix store on the Business plan. The figures combine the published prices above. They are an example, not a quote.

CostAmountFrequency
Essential POS Register$1,199One time
POS Premium plan$19 a month ($228 a year)Monthly
Card reader processing2.6% of in-person card salesPer sale
Site plan (Business, already in place)$39 a month, billed yearlyYearly

Inventory sync and multiple locations

The main reason to choose Wix POS over a separate system is that online and in-person selling share data. When you sell a Wix Stores product in person, it syncs automatically. Wix describes it as one product catalog, one inventory and one sales history.

More than one location

POS Register can run in multiple physical locations, with inventory managed separately for each one. There are conditions:

  • Multi-location inventory is available to merchants with the new Wix Stores product catalog.
  • The online store always counts as an inventory location.
  • An online store managed together with a physical location counts as one inventory location.
  • You add locations at Business Info in the dashboard, using the "This is an inventory location for my store" toggle.

Whether you have the new catalog, and what else it changes, is explained in Wix Stores product, variant and catalog limits.

Limits to know

  • Wix Payments only. You can't use Wix POS with another card processor.
  • Wix hardware only for POS Register. Existing third-party tablets and printers won't work with it.
  • Automatic discounts don't apply everywhere. They are not applied on Desktop POS and POS Go sales. You enter the discount by hand. An automatic discount set for individual members also doesn't apply to a POS Register sale.
  • Gift cards. Wix gift cards can be redeemed offline only at a POS Register, and physical gift cards work only with POS Register.

Wix POS or a separate POS system

This is a question of where your business is centered.

Wix POS fits when the website and online store are already on Wix, you use or are happy to use Wix Payments, and you want one inventory without connecting two systems. A retailer with one or a few locations, a maker who sells at markets, or a service business that sells products at the front desk are typical fits.

A separate system fits when your in-person operation is the larger and more complex side: a business already invested in another provider's hardware, or one that needs a card processor other than Wix Payments. Wix supports Square as a payment provider, including for in-person sales from a mobile device, and we compare the two platforms in Wix vs Square Online.

Neither choice is better in general. Count your locations and check the hardware you already own before you decide.

Conclusion

Wix POS gives a Wix store a way to sell in person with one catalog and one stock count. Start with the smallest option that works: Tap to Pay on a phone needs no hardware, POS Go is a $399 handheld, and POS Register starts at $1,199 for a full counter. Budget for the $19 monthly POS Premium plan on Register and Go, and confirm that your business is eligible for Wix Payments before you order anything. Frequently asked questions

Is Wix POS free?

The software is included with the hardware at no separate software fee, but there are other costs. You pay for hardware (or use Tap to Pay with none), a processing fee on each sale, and $19 a month for the POS Premium plan if you take cards on POS Register or POS Go.

What are Wix POS transaction fees?

In the US as of October 2026: 2.6% with no fixed fee for a card reader sale, 2.6% + $0.20 for Tap to Pay, and 3.5% + $0.30 for manual card entry.

Can I use Wix POS with Stripe or Square?

No. Wix POS requires Wix Payments. Square can be connected to a Wix site as its own payment provider, including for in-person sales from a mobile device, but that is Square's system, not Wix POS.

Does Wix POS work outside the US?

It is available in the US, Canada and the UK, except Northern Ireland, for users connected to Wix Payments.

Does Wix POS sync inventory with my online store?

Yes. In-person sales of Wix Stores products sync automatically, so you have one product catalog, one inventory and one sales history.

Can I use my own iPad with Wix POS Register?

No. POS Register works only with Wix's own listed hardware. To sell from a device you already own, use mobile POS in the Wix app with the Mobile Card Reader or Tap to Pay.
