Selling subscriptions on Wix
Selling subscriptions on Wix

Wix has two separate tools for recurring payments, and the right one depends on what you sell. If you ship a physical product on a schedule, such as coffee every month, use product subscriptions in Wix Stores. If you sell access, a membership or a package of services, use the Wix Pricing Plans app.
Both need a Core, Business or Business Elite plan, and both need a payment provider that supports recurring payments. Wix Payments, Stripe and PayPal do. Square is not on Wix's list.
The two tools differ in one way that affects your margins. Wix charges its own transaction fee on Pricing Plans sales, based on your site plan: 4% on Core, 2% on Business and 0% on Business Elite, as of October 2026. This guide covers how each tool works, what it requires, and the limits to know before you launch.
Key Takeaways
- Wix Stores subscriptions are recurring orders of a physical product. Pricing Plans sells memberships, packages and access.
- Recurring payments require a provider that supports them. Wix Payments, Stripe and PayPal are on Wix's list, for card payments only.
- Pricing Plans sales carry a Wix transaction fee of 4% on Core, 2% on Business and 0% on Business Elite.
- A product can have up to 6 subscription options. Digital products can't be sold as subscriptions.
- In Wix Stores, the shipping fee of the original order is charged again on every subscription cycle.
- With Pricing Plans, a failed recurring payment automatically cancels the client's plan.
Two tools, two jobs
| Product subscriptions (Wix Stores) | Pricing Plans app | |
|---|---|---|
| What it sells | A physical product, shipped each cycle | Memberships, packages, access to content or services |
| Typical uses | Coffee, pet food, supplements, refills | Gym membership, class pack, member-only content, online programs |
| What happens each cycle | A new order is created for you to fulfill | The client is charged and keeps their access |
| Wix transaction fee | None published for store orders | 4% Core, 2% Business, 0% Business Elite |
| Free trial | Not documented | 7, 14 or 30 days on recurring plans |
| Digital products | Not supported | Access to pages, video, files and more |
| If a payment fails | You can add a grace period | The plan is canceled automatically |
You can run both on one site. A yoga studio might sell memberships through Pricing Plans and a monthly tea box through Wix Stores.
What you need before you start
A plan that sells
Wix's plans page lists "Plans and recurring payments" as included in Core, Business and Business Elite, and not in Light. As of October 2026 those plans are listed at $29, $39 and $159 per month in the US on a yearly subscription.
A provider that supports recurring payments
Wix states that to sell product subscriptions you must connect a payment method that supports recurring payments. The main options for a US business, from Wix's article on accepting recurring payments:
| Provider | Recurring payments | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Wix Payments | Yes | Credit and debit card payments only |
| Stripe | Yes | Credit and debit cards only; minimum $0.50 per recurring payment |
| PayPal | Yes | Credit card payments only; a PayPal Business account is required |
| Square | Not listed | Not on Wix's recurring payments list |
The "cards only" condition has consequences. Buy now, pay later methods and digital wallets may be offered for one-time purchases on your site and still not be available for a subscription. Test the subscription checkout to see exactly which methods your customers are offered.
Manual, offline payment can't be used for pricing plans. Gift cards can't be used to buy product subscriptions or pricing plans. Processing rates for each provider are in Wix Payments fees and payment options.
Product subscriptions in Wix Stores
A product subscription turns a physical product into a repeating order. You can sell a product as subscription only, or offer it both ways so the customer chooses between a one-time purchase and a subscription.
How to create one
- Go to Products in your site's dashboard.
- Create a new physical product or open an existing one.
- Click + Create a Subscription.
- Enter a name and, if you like, a tagline.
- Choose how often an order is created.
- Choose when the subscription expires: a preset, or a custom number of billing cycles.
- Add a discount for subscribers if you want one.
- Save, then repeat for other frequencies. You can have up to 6 subscription options per product.
The steps are from Wix's guide to creating subscription products.
What happens each cycle
Each billing cycle creates a new order in your Orders tab. You fulfill it like any other order: pack it, print a label, mark it fulfilled. Nothing ships itself.
Limits and quirks
- Physical products only. Subscriptions can't be created for digital products.
- No pre-orders. A pre-order can't be combined with a subscription.
- Stock can go negative. If inventory is zero at renewal, the order is still created and the stock count goes below zero. Watch inventory on subscription products closely.
- Shipping repeats from the first order. The shipping fee of the original order, including any other items that were in it, is charged on every future cycle. A customer who subscribed while also buying a heavy one-time item could keep paying the higher shipping amount.
- Not for marketplaces. Subscription products can't be listed on Google Shopping, TikTok or eBay.
- Currency. If you use multi-currency, a subscription bought in another currency keeps the exchange rate of the first purchase for its whole life.
The shipping quirk deserves a plan. A simple approach is flat or free shipping on subscription products, so the repeated fee is always the one you intended. Shipping rules are covered in setting up shipping on Wix Stores.
Managing subscriptions
Customers manage their own subscriptions on a My Subscriptions page, where they can cancel and update payment details.
On your side, Subscriptions in the dashboard lets you:
- Skip up to 10 billing cycles for a subscriber.
- Cancel a subscription.
- Add a grace period when a payment fails.
- Change the charge date.
The Pricing Plans app
Pricing Plans is a separate Wix app for selling memberships, packages and subscriptions to content and services. It offers three plan types: a one-time payment, a recurring payment, and a free plan or trial.
What a plan can give access to
A plan can be connected to site pages, Wix Bookings, Events, Blog, Online Programs, Video, File Share and Groups. That covers the common cases: a members-only section, a monthly class pass, paid video lessons, a paid community.
A plan can also stand alone, without being connected to anything on the site. Wix's example is a meal delivery service, where the plan is simply the recurring charge and you deliver the service yourself.
Billing options
- Recurring frequency can be daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.
- Custom cycles are possible, such as every 6 weeks or every 3 months.
- Free trials of 7, 14 or 30 days can be added to recurring plans.
- Guest checkout can be enabled for pricing plans, but only from the Plans & Pricing page.
Rules to know before you launch
- Plans can't be deleted. Once created, a pricing plan can only be hidden or archived. Name and structure your plans with care, and don't create throwaway tests on the live site.
- A failed payment cancels the plan. If a recurring payment fails, the client's plan is canceled automatically and they must buy a new one. An expired card can cost you a member.
- Switching payment provider is disruptive. To change provider you must cancel all active recurring plans first and ask clients to repurchase. Choose your provider before you sell your first plan.
- No offline payment. Manual payment can't be used for pricing plans.
The automatic cancellation is the rule most likely to cost you revenue. Tell members to keep their card details current, and watch for cancellations so you can follow up personally.
The Wix transaction fee on Pricing Plans
This is the one place where Wix publishes a platform fee of its own on sales. According to Wix's plans page, "Transaction fees apply to all charges for pricing plans you sell, including one-time and recurring payments."
| Site plan | Plan price per month, billed yearly | Pricing Plans transaction fee | Wix fee on $2,000 of monthly plan sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $29 | 4% | $80 |
| Business | $39 | 2% | $40 |
| Business Elite | $159 | 0% | $0 |
The last column is our arithmetic, to show how the fee scales. The fee is separate from payment processing, which your provider charges on top.
The numbers point to a simple rule for choosing a plan. Business costs $10 a month more than Core and halves the fee, so it pays for itself once your pricing plan sales pass about $500 a month. The jump from Business to Business Elite is $120 a month, which the 2% saving only covers at about $6,000 a month in plan sales. Run the calculation with your own figures, and remember the plan tiers differ in other ways too. See Wix plans compared.
Sales tax on subscriptions
Product subscriptions create ordinary store orders, and Wix's tax tool covers Wix Stores. For Pricing Plans, Wix says its tax tool is in the process of becoming available, so check Settings → Tax on your own site to see whether it covers your plans yet.
Whether a membership or a subscription box is taxable, and where, varies by state. That is a question for your accountant or state tax agency, not something the software decides. How the tool works is covered in sales tax on Wix Stores.
Which tool should you use
- You ship a physical item on a schedule: Wix Stores product subscriptions. You get orders, inventory and shipping labels in the normal store workflow.
- You sell access to content, classes, bookings or a community: Pricing Plans. It connects to those Wix apps directly.
- You sell a recurring service with nothing to ship and nothing to gate: a standalone pricing plan.
- You sell digital downloads on a recurring basis: Stores subscriptions don't support digital products. A pricing plan that gives access to a members-only page or file area is the closer fit.
- You need a free trial: Pricing Plans.
Where Wix subscriptions get tight
Wix's subscription tools cover the standard cases well. Be honest with yourself about the edges:
- Recurring payments run on cards only with the main providers.
- Six subscription options per product is the ceiling.
- The repeated-shipping behavior needs a workaround.
- A failed payment on a pricing plan ends the plan.
- Changing payment provider later means every recurring plan member has to buy again.
If subscriptions are a side line to a normal store or service business, these are manageable. If subscriptions are the whole business, with thousands of subscribers and complex billing, compare dedicated subscription tooling on other platforms. Conclusion
Selling subscriptions on Wix comes down to picking the right tool: Wix Stores for physical products shipped on a schedule, Pricing Plans for memberships, packages and access. Connect a provider that supports recurring card payments before you build, plan around the repeated shipping fee and the automatic cancellation on failed payments, and factor the 4%, 2% or 0% Pricing Plans fee into your choice of site plan.
