How to cancel a Wix plan and get a refund

This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

To cancel a Wix plan, open Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account, click the More Actions icon next to the plan, choose Cancel Plan, then Cancel Now. If you do this within 14 days of first buying the plan, the plan ends immediately and Wix refunds it in full. If you do it after day 14, nothing is refunded: the plan simply stops renewing and runs to the end of the period you already paid for.

That 14-day line decides almost everything, and it cuts both ways. Cancel on day 10 because you only wanted to switch off auto-renew, and your plan ends that day. Cancel on day 20 hoping for money back, and you won't get it. The guarantee also covers less than most people assume. It applies to the first purchase of a site plan, not to renewals, and not to domains, business email or third-party apps.

This guide covers what is and isn't refundable as of October 2026, the exact steps, when Wix charges renewals, and what happens to your site, domain and email after a plan ends.

Key Takeaways

  • Cancel path: Premium Subscriptions → More Actions → Cancel Plan → Cancel Now.
  • The 14-day money-back guarantee covers the first purchase of a Premium or Studio plan, on monthly or yearly billing. Wix's Terms of Use exclude renewals, upgrades and additional purchases.
  • Domains, domain privacy, Google Workspace mailboxes and third-party app upgrades are not refundable.
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method. Wix says to allow up to 45 business days.
  • After a plan ends, your site isn't deleted. It stays online at its free Wix address with Wix ads, and the custom domain is disconnected.
  • The domain, the business email and paid apps are separate subscriptions. Canceling the site plan doesn't cancel them.

What the 14-day money-back guarantee covers

Wix has no free trial for paid plans. The 14-day guarantee is the trial: you pay, and you can change your mind for two weeks.

Wix's Terms of Use (section 6.4, last revised July 9, 2026) say you can cancel "within fourteen (14) days of having first ordered or activated such Premium Plan." They limit the guarantee to "the initial purchase of a Premium Plan which is an upgrade of a free website" and say it doesn't apply to "additional purchases, upgrades, modifications or renewals."

In practice that means:

  • It covers both plan families. Premium plans (Light, Core, Business, Business Elite, for Wix Editor sites) and Studio plans (for Wix Studio sites) both qualify.
  • It covers both billing cycles. Monthly and yearly plans both qualify.
  • The clock starts at purchase. A plan can't be paused or delayed. Wix says it "begins the moment that you purchase it."
  • Canceling inside the window ends the plan at once. You get the full amount back and the site returns to the free plan.

One point where Wix's own pages disagree: a help article about auto-renewal says the 14 days cover "first-time purchases and upgrades," while the Terms of Use exclude upgrades. The Terms of Use are the controlling document, so don't count on a refund for an upgrade. If you're unsure which plan to buy, our comparison of Wix plans can help you choose before the clock starts.

What Wix does not refund

Items bought alongside the plan are separate products. Each has its own rule.

ItemRefundable?What Wix says
First purchase of a Premium or Studio plan, canceled within 14 daysYes, in fullPlan ends immediately
Plan renewalNoTerms of Use exclude renewals from the guarantee
Plan upgradeNo, per the Terms of UseOne help article says otherwise; the Terms control
Domain registrationNo"Domain subscriptions are non-refundable and do not include a 14 day money-back guarantee."
Domain private registrationNoAn additional fee that "is not refundable"
Business email (Google Workspace bought through Wix)No"Google Workspace business emails purchased through Wix are non-refundable."
Third-party app upgradeNo"It is not possible to receive a refund for a third-party app upgrade."

Two details catch people out. First, the free domain voucher that comes with many yearly plans covers the first year of the domain only. If you paid for privacy protection or extra years at the same checkout, that charge is not covered by the plan guarantee. Second, transferring a site to another Wix account during the first 14 days forfeits the refund. If you're handing a site to a client or partner, read our guide to transferring ownership of a Wix site before you start.

How to cancel a Wix plan, step by step

  1. Sign in to the Wix account that holds the subscription.
  2. Go to Premium Subscriptions.
  3. Find the plan for the site you want to cancel. Check the site name, because each plan covers one site only and an account can hold several plans.
  4. Click the More Actions icon next to that plan.
  5. Click Cancel Plan.
  6. Click Cancel Now to confirm.

Wix documents the full flow in its help article on canceling a Premium or Studio plan. What happens next depends on the date:

  • Within 14 days of the first purchase: the plan ends immediately and the refund is issued to the original payment method. Wix's refund article says to allow up to 45 business days for it to appear.
  • After 14 days: auto-renew is turned off. The plan and its features stay active until the end of the current billing period, then the site drops to the free plan.

The 14-day timing trap

After day 14, canceling a plan and turning off auto-renew are the same action. Before day 14 they are not: canceling ends the plan.

So if you bought a yearly plan, you're happy with it, and you only want to make sure it doesn't renew next year, don't cancel in the first two weeks. Wix's instruction is that "you must wait until the first 14 days are over before canceling," or the plan ends at once. Set a calendar reminder for day 15 or later.

The reverse also matters. A plan canceled after day 14 can be switched back on from Premium Subscriptions → Turn Auto Renew On while it's still active. A plan canceled inside the 14 days can't be reactivated. You would have to buy a new one.

When Wix charges renewals

Every Wix subscription auto-renews by default, and the charge often lands before the date you expect. If you plan to cancel, do it ahead of the charge date, not the expiry date.

SubscriptionWhen the renewal is chargedReminder email
Monthly site planOn the expiry dateNone
Yearly or multi-year site planUp to 3 weeks before expiryStarts 30 days before renewal
Domain30 days before expiryCheck your account emails
Business emailAttempted up to 30 days before expiryCheck your account emails

Also note that anything bought on sale "renews at the standard rate," in Wix's words. Wix doesn't publish renewal prices on its plans page, so check the figure for your own account under Premium Subscriptions before the renewal date. What happens to your site after the plan ends

Your site is not deleted. It keeps running on the free plan, which changes several things visitors will notice:

  • The custom domain is disconnected. The site is reachable only at its free address, in the format siteprefix.wixsite.com/siteaddress.
  • Wix ads return. A Wix banner appears at the top of every page and the Wix favicon shows in the browser tab.
  • Online payments stop. Free sites can't accept payments, so a store or booking page can no longer take orders.
  • Storage drops to 500MB. If your site already holds more than that, it keeps running as normal, but you can't upload new media until you remove files or upgrade again.
  • Bandwidth is capped. Free sites get up to 1GB of bandwidth, against unlimited on paid plans.

The full list of free-plan restrictions is in our guide to what the free Wix plan can and can't do. If the site matters for search traffic, keep in mind that losing the custom domain means every indexed URL on that domain stops loading your pages.

Cancel the domain and email separately

Canceling the site plan leaves the domain, the business email and any paid apps running and renewing. Wix states that each must be canceled on its own.

Domain

Go to Premium Subscriptions → More Actions → Cancel domain → Cancel auto renew → Submit. You keep the domain until the end of the term you paid for. After it expires, Wix describes a grace period of about 30 days when you can renew at no extra fee, then a redemption period of about 30 days when a fee applies, then deletion. Some extensions, including .de, .fr, .nl and .me, have no grace period.

If you're leaving Wix but want to keep the domain, don't cancel it. Move it. The steps and the 60-day rules are in our guide on how to transfer a domain away from Wix.

Business email

Go to Premium Subscriptions → More Actions → Cancel subscription → Cancel Subscription, pick a reason, then click Cancel Now. The mailbox keeps working until the end of the paid period. After that you can't read, send or receive mail. The mailbox is tied to the domain, not the site, so it keeps working even when the site is unpublished or back on the free plan, as long as the email subscription itself is active.

Apps

Paid upgrades for third-party apps are billed separately and are not refundable. Review Premium Subscriptions line by line so nothing keeps renewing after you thought you had left.

Alternatives to canceling

If the issue is cost or fit, not Wix itself, you have options short of canceling.

  • Move to a lower plan. Wix says you can change to a different plan of the same duration at any time, including a lower tier. The Change Plan button isn't available to every user. Without it, you cancel and repurchase.
  • Change the billing cycle. Go to Premium Subscriptions → More Actions → Change Billing Cycle → Continue → Confirm. A switch to a shorter cycle starts when the current cycle ends.
  • Move the plan to another site you own. Use Premium Subscriptions → More Actions → Assign to a Different Site. The original site loses its paid features, including the domain connection.

Unassigning a plan from a site is not the same as canceling. It disconnects the domain but the subscription stays active and keeps renewing.

Taking the site offline or closing the account

Because a canceled site stays live on its free address, canceling doesn't hide it. To take it offline, unpublish it: in the site dashboard go to Settings → Website settings → Unpublish. Visitors then see "Page Not Found."

Closing your Wix account is a separate and final step. Wix says it "can't be undone," and its Terms of Use state that after termination "Data cannot be recovered." Cancel or transfer every subscription first, export what you can (store products and CMS collections export to CSV), and only then close the account.

Conclusion

Canceling a Wix plan takes four clicks, but the outcome depends on timing. Inside the first 14 days of a first purchase you get a full refund and lose the plan at once. After that, you keep the plan to the end of the paid period and nothing comes back. Domains, mailboxes and apps follow their own rules and none of them are refundable. If you're canceling because the site isn't doing its job, a rebuild or cleanup is sometimes the cheaper fix, and our Wix website services team can tell you which it is. Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund from Wix after 14 days?

The money-back guarantee ends at 14 days. After that, canceling stops the next renewal and the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Wix's policy gives no refund for the remaining time, though its refund article says you can contact Wix to have a request reviewed.

How long does a Wix refund take?

Wix refunds the original payment method and says to allow up to 45 business days.

Does Wix refund a domain if I cancel my plan?

No. Wix states that domain subscriptions are non-refundable and have no 14-day guarantee. If your first year was covered by a free domain voucher, there's nothing to refund for the domain, but any paid privacy protection or extra years stay charged.

Will my Wix site be deleted if I cancel?

No. The site returns to the free plan and stays online at its wixsite.com address with Wix ads. The custom domain is disconnected and payments stop. To hide the site, unpublish it.

Is the Wix refund policy the same in every country?

This guide describes Wix's published Terms of Use and help articles as a US customer sees them. Consumer law where you live may give you additional rights. This isn't legal advice. If a refund is disputed, check the Terms of Use and ask a local consumer authority or an attorney.
