What a Wix Website Really Costs: Plans, Apps and the Line Items After Year One

Wix's advertised pricing is the plan. The plan is rarely the whole bill. Here is the honest structure of what a Wix site costs, so you can compare it against alternatives on equal terms.

The plan

A premium plan is required to connect your own domain and remove Wix branding. Tiers differ mainly on storage, video minutes, and whether eCommerce and advanced marketing features are included. Annual billing is cheaper per month; the renewal rate is what matters, not the first-year promotion.

The domain

Often free for the first year with an annual plan, then billed at the standard rate. Not large, but it is a renewal people forget and then panic about.

Business email

Separate from the site plan, priced per mailbox per month. Three staff mailboxes is a real annual line item.

Apps

This is where estimates drift furthest from reality. Bookings, advanced forms, reviews, memberships, loyalty, chat, SEO add-ons — each is its own subscription, often per month, and they accumulate quietly. Transaction costs, if you sell

Payment processing is charged per transaction by the processor. Some plans and apps add their own fees on top. For a low-margin product this can outweigh the plan itself.

Design and content help

The cost people leave out entirely. Someone has to build the thing, write the copy, take the photographs and keep it current. Whether that is your time or an invoice, it is the largest number on this page for most businesses — and the one that actually determines whether the site works.

The exit cost

Wix is a closed platform: there is no full export that reproduces your site elsewhere. Content can be extracted with effort, but the build cannot come with you, so leaving means rebuilding. That is not an argument against starting on Wix; it is an argument for knowing the cost before you are five years and two hundred pages in. How to compare fairly

Put three years on one page: plan renewals, domain, email, every app, transaction fees, and a realistic figure for design and content. Then price the alternative the same way — a WordPress site has hosting, a theme or build cost, plugins and maintenance, and it does not avoid the content bill either.
