Wix Site Speed: What Actually Moves Core Web Vitals

Wix sites tend to score poorly on Core Web Vitals, and owners tend to respond by trying everything at once. Most of it does nothing. Here is what moves the numbers, what does not, and where the platform's own ceiling sits.

What actually moves the numbers

Image weight, first and by a distance

The single biggest win on nearly every Wix site we audit. Hero images uploaded at 4000px and displayed at 800px, photo galleries of unoptimised JPEGs, background images doing decorative work at full resolution. Resize to the dimensions you actually display, and let Wix serve them rather than embedding enormous originals. This is usually worth more than every other fix combined.

What sits above the fold

Largest Contentful Paint measures the biggest visible element. A full-width video background or a slider as the first thing on the page makes LCP structurally slow no matter what else you do. A static hero image with real text over it loads faster and, in our experience, converts at least as well.

Apps you stopped using

Every Wix app adds script weight, and they accumulate. Chat widgets, popups, booking tools, review carousels, two different analytics tags. Audit the list and remove what you are not actively using — this is the fix owners resist most and thank us for afterwards.

Fonts

Three custom font families at four weights each is a real cost. Two families, two or three weights, is plenty for almost any brand.

What does not help

• Chasing the lab score. PageSpeed Insights' synthetic number is not what ranks you. Use the field data (Core Web Vitals from real visitors) in Search Console.
• Minifying or combining files. Not yours to control on Wix — the platform builds the bundles.
• Adding a caching or CDN app. Wix already serves from its own infrastructure; a third-party layer mostly adds script.
• Deleting pages. Page count does not affect the speed of any individual page.

The ceiling, stated plainly

You do not control how much JavaScript Wix ships or in what order it executes. So there is a floor below which a Wix page will not go, however disciplined you are — and it sits above what a well-built static or server-rendered site achieves. For most businesses that ceiling is fine; visitors do not benchmark. It matters when your competitors are fast and your category is a coin-flip on experience, or when paid traffic makes every point of bounce rate expensive.
