Wix eCommerce SEO: Product and Category Pages That Rank

By: Irina Shvaya | September 22, 2026

A Wix store gives you the same SEO controls as the rest of the platform, plus a few decisions specific to selling. These are the ones that decide whether product pages ever rank.

Write the product descriptions yourself

Manufacturer copy is on every other store selling the same item. If your description is identical to fifty competitors, there is no reason for a search engine to prefer your page. Write what the product is for, who it suits, what it does not suit, sizing or fit reality, and what buyers ask before they commit. Two honest paragraphs beat a spec sheet.

Fix the slugs and titles per product

Wix lets you edit both. Default product titles are frequently just the product name, which loses to competitors including the qualifier people actually search — brand, size, material, use case. "Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 5.5qt, Enamelled" is a search; "Dutch Oven" is a category.

Make category pages earn their keep

Category pages usually have more ranking potential than any single product, because they match how people search before they know exactly what they want. A bare grid of products with no copy gives a search engine nothing to read. Add a short introduction that explains the range and how to choose within it, above or below the grid.

Add Product schema, and get the details right

Wix emits some product structured data, and you can add custom markup per page. Price, availability and review data are what earn rich results in shopping contexts. Two rules: mark up only what is on the page, and keep availability accurate — stale in-stock markup on a sold-out product is the fastest way to lose the enhancement entirely. Schema markup on Wix covers the mechanics.

Decide what happens to sold-out products

The most common Wix store mistake we see: deleting discontinued products, which throws away every link and ranking those pages earned. Better options, in order — keep the page up and mark it out of stock while suggesting alternatives; or 301 it to the closest replacement product; or 301 it to its category. Delete only when nothing related exists, which is rare.

Handle variants deliberately

If every colour of a shirt gets its own indexable URL with near-identical copy, you are competing against yourself. Either consolidate variants onto one page with a canonical pointing there, or give each variant genuinely distinct content and demand behind it. The wrong answer is twelve thin pages that differ by one word.

Then work on speed, because stores feel it hardest

Product pages are image-heavy by nature, and an eCommerce visitor abandons faster than a reader. What actually moves Core Web Vitals on Wix applies doubly here.

If your store has more products than you can hand-optimise, that is the point to get help — our Wix website services include catalogue-level work rather than page-by-page tinkering.
