Schema Markup on Wix: What It Emits and What You Add Yourself
Schema Markup on Wix: What It Emits and What You Add Yourself

Structured data tells a search engine what a page is rather than leaving it to infer. Wix handles some of this automatically and gives you a field for custom markup per page. The useful question is which types are worth your time.
Start by seeing what you already have
Before adding anything, run two or three of your pages through Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. You will usually find Wix has already emitted something — often a WebSite or Organization block, and Product or Article markup on the relevant templates. Duplicating those by hand creates conflicts rather than improvements.
The types worth adding
LocalBusiness
For any business with a physical location or a service area. Name, address, phone, opening hours, service area. It has to match your Google Business Profile and the details in your footer exactly — inconsistent NAP data is a common local ranking drag, and marking up a different phone number than the one on the page is worse than no markup.
FAQPage
Only when the page genuinely answers questions a customer asks, and only for questions and answers visible on the page. The visibility rule is not optional; marking up answers a visitor cannot see is exactly the misuse that gets enhancements withdrawn.
Service
For service pages, describing what you do and where. Modest on its own, useful as part of a coherent set that says the same thing about the business across every page.
Article
For blog posts: headline, author, dates, image. Wix typically emits some of this already; check before adding.
Product
For stores. Price and availability must reflect the page and stay current. Wix eCommerce SEO covers the store-specific pitfalls.
The rules that keep markup working
- Only mark up what is on the page. Everything else is a policy violation waiting to be caught.
- Keep it current. Stale hours, prices or availability are worse than no markup, because they are wrong in a machine-readable way.
- One entity, one story. The business name, address and phone in your schema should match your site, your Google Business Profile and your directory listings.
- Validate after every change. A stray comma in a JSON-LD block invalidates the whole thing silently.
What schema will not do
It is not a ranking shortcut. Structured data makes a page eligible for richer presentation and helps machines understand entities — it does not make a weak page strong. If the page has nothing to say, marking it up says nothing more loudly.
Schema is step six in our Wix SEO checklist for exactly that reason: it pays off once the fundamentals are right. If you would rather have it built and validated once, properly, it is part of our Wix website services.
