Dropshipping on Wix: apps, plan limits and what it really costs
Dropshipping on Wix: apps, plan limits and what it really costs

Yes, you can run a dropshipping store on Wix. Dropshipping means you list products you don't stock; when a customer orders, a supplier ships the item directly to them. Wix Stores supports this through apps. Modalyst is the one built into the dashboard, and Wix also names Spocket for general dropshipping and Printful and Printify for print on demand (products printed with your design after each order).
Two things decide whether it works for you. The first is your Wix plan: you need Core or higher to take payments, and the number of Modalyst products you can list depends on the plan. As of October 2026 that is 25 products on Core and 250 on Business. The second is your margin. The supplier's price, shipping, payment processing and app fees all come out of the price your customer pays, and what's left is often thinner than new store owners expect.
Key Takeaways
- Building the site and adding dropshipping products is free, but customers can't check out until you're on a plan that accepts payments: Core, Business or Business Elite.
- Modalyst product allowances by Wix plan, as of October 2026: Core 25 products, Business 250, Business Elite up to the store's product limit.
- Core's 25-product allowance is the same size as Modalyst's own free Hobby tier.
- Supplier shipping rates do not sync to Wix. You create your own shipping rules in the Wix dashboard.
- Print-on-demand apps such as Printful and Printify bill you separately, on their own price lists.
- Dropshipped products can't always follow you to other channels: check each marketplace's rules before you plan around them.
How dropshipping works on a Wix store
A dropshipping app connects a supplier catalog to your Wix Stores product list. You pick products, set your prices and publish them. To a shopper they look like any other product: Wix notes that customers cannot tell dropshipped items from your own.
When an order comes in, the customer pays you through your Wix checkout. You then pay the supplier their price for the item and shipping, and the supplier sends it out. The gap between the two amounts, minus fees, is your profit.
You can mix models in one store. Nothing stops you from selling your own stocked products alongside a few dropshipped lines, which is how many small stores test new categories without buying inventory. If you're new to the store tools themselves, start with our complete guide to Wix Stores.
The apps Wix supports
Wix's help center names four apps, and the Wix dropshipping page adds two more. More are listed in the Wix App Market.
| App | Type | What Wix or the vendor says |
|---|---|---|
| Modalyst | Dropshipping | Wix calls it "Wix's native dropshipping solution." Works inside the Wix dashboard or through Modalyst's own dashboard. |
| Spocket | Dropshipping | Named by Wix as a dropshipping app. Billed by Spocket on its own plans. |
| Printful | Print on demand | Named by Wix for print on demand. Printful lists a $0 Free plan. |
| Printify | Print on demand | Named by Wix for print on demand. Printify lists a $0 Free plan. |
| DSers | Dropshipping (AliExpress) | Named on the Wix dropshipping page. |
| Importify | Dropshipping | Named on the Wix dropshipping page. |
Each app is a separate company with its own account, terms and billing. Wix can help with the store; questions about a supplier's stock, shipping times or a missing parcel go to the app or the supplier.
Modalyst, the built-in option
Modalyst can be used in two ways. Through the Wix dashboard, you get suggested products with pricing and shipping pre-set, which is the faster start. Or you add the Modalyst app and work in Modalyst's own dashboard, which gives you more control over what you import.
A few details from Wix's Modalyst setup guide are worth knowing before you list anything:
- Pricing rules. You set a default markup, and the rule tracks supplier price changes. If you override a price by hand, that price no longer adjusts automatically. A supplier increase can then quietly erase your margin.
- Shipping. Supplier shipping rates do not sync to Wix. You build the shipping rules your customers see.
- Returns. Modalyst suppliers provide a 14-day return policy.
- Samples. Some suppliers allow sample orders, so you can check quality first.
- Discontinued items. If a supplier discontinues a product, you're told by email.
Product limits on each Wix plan
This is the part most people miss. Your Wix plan caps how many Modalyst products you can list, and the caps map to Modalyst's own tiers.
| Wix plan | Price per month, billed yearly | Accepts payments | Dropshipping by Modalyst | Matching Modalyst tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | $17 | No | Not included | None |
| Core | $29 | Yes | 25 products | Hobby |
| Business | $39 | Yes | 250 products | Start-Up |
| Business Elite | $159 | Yes | Up to the store's product limit | Pro |
Prices are from the Wix plans page as of October 2026, in USD for US visitors, for yearly subscriptions paid in full up front and before tax. The Business Elite row needs a note. Wix's help center describes it as unlimited, while the plans page says 50,000 products. Since a Wix store tops out at 50,000 products anyway, the practical answer is the same.
For comparison, Modalyst's own price list shows Hobby at $0, Start Up at $35 per month ($30 on its yearly toggle) and Pro at $90 per month ($67 on its yearly toggle). So the Core allowance equals what Modalyst gives away free, and the step up to Business is where the Wix plan starts to include a paid Modalyst tier. Our Wix plans comparison covers the other differences between those plans.
These allowances are for Modalyst only. Spocket, Printful, Printify and the others set their own limits and prices.
Print on demand: Printful and Printify
Print on demand suits stores that sell their own designs on shirts, mugs, posters and similar goods. There's no catalog of other people's products to compete on; the product is your artwork.
Both vendors publish a free starting tier as of October 2026. Printful's pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 per month and a Growth plan at $24.99 per month, which becomes free once you reach $12K a year in sales. Printify's pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 per month and a Premium plan from $39 per month billed monthly, or from $24.99 per month billed yearly. On either service you also pay the product and shipping cost of each order, so confirm the per-item price of the exact products you plan to sell.
Spocket works differently. Spocket's pricing page shows no permanently free plan: there's a 7-day free trial, and the Starter plan is $39.99 per month billed monthly with 25 unique products. Those are Spocket's direct prices and may differ when you install through the Wix App Market, so check the listing before you subscribe.
How to work out your margin
Before you list a product, write down every cost that comes out of one sale. Here is the arithmetic, using a made-up product to show the method. The numbers are an illustration, not a benchmark.
| Line | Example |
|---|---|
| Price the customer pays | $40.00 |
| Supplier price for the item | $22.00 |
| Supplier shipping charge | $6.00 |
| Card processing through Wix Payments (2.9% + $0.30) | $1.46 |
| Left before ads, apps and your Wix plan | $10.54 |
That $10.54 still has to cover advertising, any monthly app fee and the Wix plan itself. Three more things eat into it:
- Refunds. With Wix Payments, the original processing fee is not returned to you when you refund an order. A refunded sale costs you money even if the supplier takes the item back.
- Chargebacks. The US chargeback fee with Wix Payments is $15 on card payments and $20 on PayPal, as of October 2026.
- Free shipping. If you offer it, the supplier's shipping charge comes straight out of your margin.
The full fee schedule, including American Express and buy now, pay later rates, is in our guide to Wix Payments fees.
Shipping, tax and returns are still your job
Dropshipping removes the warehouse. It does not remove your responsibility to the customer.
Shipping. Because supplier rates don't sync, set rules in Shipping, delivery & fulfillment that at least cover what the supplier charges you. If you use suppliers in different countries, delivery profiles let you give different product groups their own rules. See setting up shipping on Wix Stores for the rule types. Be honest about delivery times on your product pages; they're set by the supplier, not by you.
Sales tax. You are the seller, so collecting and remitting sales tax where you're required to is on you. Wix can calculate tax at checkout, but automated tax is limited to 100 transactions a month on Business and 500 on Business Elite, and isn't included on Core. This article isn't tax advice; ask an accountant or your state tax agency where you need to collect.
Returns and policies. Your refund policy has to match what your suppliers will actually accept. If a supplier allows 14 days, don't promise 30 unless you're ready to absorb the cost.
Risks to weigh before you start
- You don't control quality or stock. A late or poor-quality parcel is your brand's problem. Order samples where the supplier allows it.
- Prices move. Supplier price changes flow through pricing rules, but not through prices you've set by hand.
- The products aren't unique. Other stores can list the same items. Your product pages, photos and service have to do the differentiating, and copied supplier descriptions won't help you in search. Our Wix ecommerce SEO guide covers writing product pages that stand on their own.
- Payment account rules apply. Wix Payments publishes a list of prohibited products and can suspend an account or withhold funds. Check that your product category is allowed before you build a catalog around it.
- Plan caps limit growth. If you expect to list more than 250 Modalyst products, budget for Business Elite or for a different app.
A sensible way to start
- Add Wix Stores and connect a dropshipping app. Start with a small, focused range instead of hundreds of items.
- Order samples of the products you plan to feature.
- Run the margin arithmetic above for every product, with real supplier and shipping prices.
- Create shipping rules that cover supplier shipping, and write a return policy that matches the supplier's.
- Upgrade to Core or Business, connect a payment provider and place a test order from start to finish.
- Rewrite product titles and descriptions in your own words before you send traffic to them.
Conclusion
Dropshipping on Wix is easy to set up and harder to make profitable. The setup is an app and a plan that accepts payments. The profit depends on margins you've checked line by line, shipping rules you've built yourself, and suppliers you've tested. Core is enough to try the idea with 25 Modalyst products; Business gives you 250 and automated tax for a limited number of orders. Frequently asked questions
Can I dropship on the free Wix plan?
You can build the store and add dropshipping products for free, but customers can't place orders until the site is on a plan that accepts payments. Light doesn't; Core, Business and Business Elite do.
How many dropshipping products can I list on Wix?
With Modalyst, as of October 2026, Core allows 25 products, Business 250, and Business Elite up to the store's 50,000-product limit. Other apps set their own limits on their own plans.
Does Wix sync supplier shipping rates?
Not with Modalyst. Wix states that supplier shipping rates do not sync, so you create your own shipping rules in the Wix dashboard and price them to cover what the supplier charges.
Do I have to pay for Modalyst separately?
The Modalyst allowance that comes with your Wix plan is included: 25 products on Core, 250 on Business. Modalyst also sells its own plans directly, and Core's allowance matches its free Hobby tier.
Who handles returns on a dropshipped order?
You deal with the customer, and the supplier's policy decides what you can send back. Modalyst suppliers provide a 14-day return policy. Remember that payment processing fees on a refunded Wix Payments order are not returned to you.
Can I sell print-on-demand products on Wix?
Yes. Wix names Printful and Printify for print on demand. Both list a free starting plan on their own pricing pages, and you pay the product and shipping cost of each order.
