Best Drupal SEO Experts in 2026-2027

By: Irina Shvaya | August 11, 2026

Disclosure: eSEOspace publishes this blog and ranks itself first. Every other entry was researched independently and links to its own site.

Drupal SEO is not WordPress SEO with a different logo on the login screen. The platform gives you more control and punishes you harder for misusing it. Metatag, Pathauto, Schema.org Metatag, Redirect, XML Sitemap and Simple XML Sitemap all have to be configured deliberately. Views can generate thousands of near-duplicate listing pages if nobody sets a canonical policy. Taxonomy term pages multiply. Multilingual sites need hreflang wired through the language negotiation layer, not bolted on. And a Drupal 7 to Drupal 10 or 11 migration can vaporise a decade of rankings in a weekend if the redirect map is wrong.

That is why the agency you hire matters more here than on most stacks. A generalist SEO who has never opened a Drupal admin will hand you a keyword spreadsheet and a list of recommendations your development team cannot action. A Drupal developer with no search background will build a beautiful, fast site that no one finds.

This list covers eight firms that credibly work at that intersection in 2026. Some are Drupal shops with a search practice attached. Some are performance marketing agencies that happen to build on Drupal. They are not interchangeable, and the differences are the point.

Key Takeaways

  • Drupal SEO splits into two jobs: configuring the platform correctly at the module and schema level, and doing the strategy, content and demand work that actually moves revenue. Very few agencies are strong at both.
  • If your biggest risk is a Drupal 7 or 9 migration, hire for redirect and migration experience first. Rankings lost in a replatform are the most expensive and most preventable SEO problem there is.
  • Agencies that build and maintain your Drupal site can usually ship SEO fixes fastest, because there is no ticket queue between the recommendation and the deployment.
  • Public sector, higher education and healthcare Drupal estates have their own constraints, from accessibility requirements to LocalGov Drupal. Sector experience is worth more than a generic case study.
  • AI search and answer engines have shifted the technical work toward structured data. Schema.org Metatag configuration is no longer a nice to have on Drupal.
  • Location and time zone still matter for retained work. Several strong Drupal agencies operate primarily from India, Ireland or Germany, which is fine if you plan around it.
  • Partner tiers are a useful signal but not a settled one. On more than one firm below, the tier printed on the agency's own website differs from the tier shown in the Drupal Association's partner directory. Check both before you treat a badge as evidence.
  • Nobody on this list publishes enough verifiable performance data to justify picking on claimed results alone. Pick on fit, then insist on a paid discovery or audit before signing a long retainer.

How we evaluated these Drupal SEO experts

We looked for evidence, not adjectives. Specifically:

Demonstrable Drupal specialism. Does the firm actually work in Drupal, or does it list Drupal alongside twelve other platforms? We weighted Drupal Association partner status, Drupal Certified Partner tiers and contribution to the project itself, because those are checkable rather than asserted. Where the agency's own badge and the Drupal Association directory disagreed, we say so rather than picking the flattering number.

A real SEO service line. Plenty of Drupal agencies will "help with SEO" if asked. We wanted a published service page describing the work, ideally naming the modules, audits or deliverables involved. Where the SEO page did not load or did not exist, we treated the offering as thinly evidenced and said so.

Depth at the technical layer. Core Web Vitals, crawl efficiency, canonical policy, structured data, hreflang, redirect mapping. This is where Drupal specific knowledge pays for itself.

Sector fit. Higher education, government, healthcare, B2B SaaS and publishing all have distinct search problems. We noted where a firm's published work clusters.

What we could not verify. We deliberately did not repeat review scores, revenue figures, team sizes or self reported percentage lifts that we could not confirm at source. Client names appear below only where we found them on the agency's own website. Where a firm's own page claims a rating, a ranking or a result, we attribute it to that firm rather than presenting it as established fact, and you should ask for the underlying data in your sales conversation.

Honest worst fit. Every entry below includes who should not hire that firm. An agency that is right for everyone is right for no one.

1. eSEOspace

Best for: organisations that want search, content, conversion and development handled by one team rather than coordinated across three vendors.

eSEOspace was founded in 2019 and works as a full service search and web agency from Roseville, California. The practice spans organic SEO, AI SEO for answer engines and generative search, content marketing, conversion rate optimisation and custom software and backend development.

The reason we put ourselves first is not that we are the biggest Drupal contributor on this list. We are not, and Specbee and OpenSense Labs would beat us in a module contribution contest. It is that most Drupal SEO engagements stall for reasons that have nothing to do with Drupal. The schema is fixed but the content plan never lands. The Core Web Vitals scores go green but the form still converts poorly. The audit is delivered and then sits in a queue because the recommendations need a developer nobody has budgeted for.

We run search strategy, content production, technical implementation and development in the same shop, so recommendations get shipped instead of documented. On the search side that means the full technical stack: crawl and index management, canonical and pagination policy, structured data, internal linking architecture, redirect mapping during replatforms, and measurement wired properly through analytics so you can see what moved.

We are also not going to sell you a branded methodology with a trademark on it. The work on Drupal is well understood and mostly unglamorous: get the token patterns right, get the canonical policy right, stop Views from generating index bloat, map the redirects before the migration rather than after, and publish content that answers a question somebody is actually asking. Anyone charging a premium for a proprietary name attached to that list is charging for the name.

Worst fit: if you need someone to contribute patches upstream to Drupal core, or you want a vendor whose entire identity is Drupal and nothing else, one of the specialist shops below is the better call. We work across platforms by design, and for some enterprise Drupal buyers that breadth is the wrong trade.

Book a call if you want a second opinion on a Drupal SEO scope you have already been quoted.

2. Specbee

Best for: technical Drupal SEO delivered by the same team that maintains the build, particularly higher education, nonprofit and healthcare sites.

Specbee is a Drupal first development agency that runs a dedicated Drupal SEO service line rather than treating search as an add on. The published offering is explicitly technical and is structured around three deliverables: a technical SEO audit covering architecture, crawling and indexing, mobile and Core Web Vitals; a set of Drupal specific recommendations covering module choice, theme optimisation, caching and security hardening; and a prioritised implementation roadmap. The modules named on that page are the right ones, including Metatag, Pathauto, Redirect, XML Sitemap, Schema.org and SEO Checklist, alongside crawl budget management and hreflang for international sites.

The credential picture needs a note. Specbee's own site describes the firm as one of the top five contributors to Drupal for multiple years and as a Drupal Signature Supporting partner, and its about page uses the word Platinum. The Drupal Association's own partner directory lists Specbee at Gold tier. Both things are on the public record, they are not the same claim, and we are not going to pretend the discrepancy does not exist. Treat the contribution ranking as the company's own statement until you see the credit data.

Founded in 2015, the company lists offices in Atlanta, New York, London and Bangalore. Client work named on its own SEO material includes IEEE, Georgia Tech, the Michael J. Fox Foundation and Ubicquia, although note those are Drupal engagements generally and we could not confirm which involved SEO specifically.

If your site is slow, your crawl budget is being eaten by faceted Views, and your Metatag configuration was set up once and never revisited, this is the profile of firm that fixes it fastest.

Worst fit: if what you actually need is commercial search strategy, demand generation and a content engine, this is a technical practice attached to a development agency. You will get a very well configured site and less help deciding what to publish and why.

3. OpenSense Labs

Best for: large or multilingual Drupal estates where search has to be solved alongside migration and performance work rather than as a separate workstream.

OpenSense Labs is an enterprise Drupal agency listed as a Drupal Certified Partner at Diamond level in the Drupal Association directory, a tier confirmed on its own site. Search sits inside a service group the firm calls Transform, as Experience Optimization and SEO, next to Performance Engineering, Platform Modernization and ongoing support. On the build side it runs enterprise Drupal development, Drupal migration and integration, and cloud engineering.

That structure tells you something useful about how the work gets sequenced. Search here is positioned as an optimisation layer applied to a platform the same firm modernised, migrated or performance tuned, rather than as an advisory engagement handed to a separate team. For a large estate mid replatform, that adjacency is the argument. The redirect map, the performance budget and the schema mapping end up owned by people in the same delivery organisation.

We were not able to load a public SEO service page for the firm during research, so we are not going to describe a methodology, a module list or a score target we could not read at source. Ask for the service description in writing and ask which of the migration and performance capabilities are included in an SEO scope rather than billed separately.

The firm operates from Frankfurt, New Delhi and Dover, Delaware. Client logos displayed on its own site include Allianz, AES, Greenway Health, the University of Maryland and Bandhan Life. Its founding year is not published.

Worst fit: small single language Drupal sites. This is enterprise shaped work, and an engagement model built around modernisation and migration is more machinery than a fifty page brochure site needs.

4. Vardot

Best for: publishing heavy and multilingual enterprise Drupal, particularly across the Middle East, North Africa and GCC markets.

Vardot is an enterprise Drupal implementation firm founded in 2011, listed as a Drupal Certified Partner at Diamond level and describing itself as an Acquia Preferred Partner and a Drupal Association support partner. Its digital marketing service explicitly argues the Drupal case for SEO, stating that "Drupal is renowned for its superior on-site SEO features which makes it the ideal CMS for content and publishing heavy websites." The offer pairs Google Certified SEO work with monthly SEO performance reports that include recommendations, and the same page lists HubSpot Certified Partner status.

Published client work leans institutional and media. Names on the firm's own work pages include IASLC, Vodafone, SRMG, Boston Consulting Group, Public Plan, UNHCR, UNESCO and Georgetown University, with case studies covering an Arabic language media property, a political analysis publication and several UN agency platforms. For an Arabic and English news or association site with heavy taxonomy and archive depth, that pattern of experience is genuinely hard to find elsewhere.

Vardot does not publish a head office city on the pages we reviewed, listing Jordan and US phone numbers only. If a named legal entity and address matter to your procurement process, ask for them up front.

Worst fit: North American B2B companies looking for pipeline focused search work. The strength here is large multilingual publishing, not demand generation.

5. Elevated Third

Best for: B2B and SaaS companies on Drupal that need search strategy tied to pipeline, not a technical audit.

Elevated Third is a B2B digital performance agency built on Drupal. It describes itself as an Acquia Elite Partner and appears in the Drupal Association partner directory at Gold tier. Its SEO offering sits under demand generation and is pitched squarely at AI era search. The page defines answer engine optimisation as "ensuring your content is featured in AI-driven search results, such as voice assistants and featured snippets," and repeatedly frames structured data as the mechanism, describing schema and meta optimisation so that "search engines (and AI models) prioritize your content first."

That positioning is more current than most of this list. If your buyers are increasingly getting answers from an AI summary instead of clicking a blue link, an agency that has already reorganised its offering around answering buyer questions rather than chasing keyword rank is worth talking to. The rest of the service list is conventional in a good way: keyword strategy, technical SEO and content distribution, with the search work sitting next to paid media, ABM activation and conversion rate optimisation rather than in a silo.

Based in Denver, Colorado. Published client work includes Lyra Health, Woodruff Sawyer, Comcast and Conga. The firm claims over twenty years of experience but does not publish a founding year, and the results attached to those case studies, including a twenty nine percent visitor increase for Woodruff Sawyer, are self reported by the agency.

Worst fit: public sector, higher education and nonprofit Drupal sites. This is a B2B shop, and the strategy playbook assumes a commercial funnel exists.

6. ImageX

Best for: clients who want SEO, UX, Drupal theming and ongoing support from a single vendor.

ImageX is a long established Drupal agency, founded in 2001 and listed as a Platinum tier Drupal Certified Partner in the Drupal Association directory. It places search engine optimisation inside its Strategy practice, alongside digital marketing campaigns, content strategy, paid ads management, email marketing, social media strategy and ongoing optimisation, and frames SEO as integrated with the build rather than bolted on afterwards.

The argument the firm makes is a reasonable one: if digital marketing strategy is designed into the platform architecture, you stop paying twice to retrofit it. For organisations tired of a build agency and a search agency blaming each other, consolidation has real value. It also changes what you are buying. A search line item inside a strategy practice tends to be scoped as a share of a broader engagement rather than as a standalone programme with its own targets, which is worth clarifying in the statement of work.

ImageX operates from Vancouver, with teams in Kyiv and Sao Paulo. The strategy pages we reviewed carry a testimonial from the Akron Area YMCA praising the firm's project management, and do not publish a broader client roster or headcount.

Worst fit: buyers who want a specialist search partner with a deep, separately staffed SEO team. Search here sits within a strategy practice, which is a different shape of engagement.

7. Annertech

Best for: government, council, university and NGO Drupal sites across Ireland and the UK, especially anything on LocalGov Drupal.

Annertech is an Irish Drupal agency positioning itself as a Drupal and LocalGov Drupal specialist, listed at Platinum tier in the Drupal Association partner directory, with search engine optimisation listed under its Strategy practice alongside content design and content strategy. Its published work is heavily weighted toward public sector, local government, higher education and NGO sites, including Carlow County Council, the London Borough of Haringey Council, Dundalk Institute of Technology, the National Library of Ireland, Oxfam Ireland, the National Cancer Registry Ireland and Orange.

LocalGov Drupal expertise is a genuine differentiator rather than a marketing line. If you are on that distribution, the number of agencies who understand its content model, its shared components and how they interact with search visibility is small. Annertech is one of them. The service structure also reflects how public sector work actually runs, with accessibility audits and content audits sitting in a discovery phase ahead of the build, which is the right order for organisations with statutory obligations attached to their web estate.

Offices in Dublin and Belfast. The firm does not publish a founding year or team size, and it is not clear which of the named public bodies engaged them for SEO specifically as opposed to Drupal build work.

Worst fit: commercial ecommerce or SaaS. The portfolio is public sector shaped, and a revenue driven search programme is not what this practice is built around.

8. Digital Polygon

Best for: teams that want SEO folded into an ongoing Drupal WebOps retainer, and organisations planning a Drupal migration who cannot afford to lose rankings in the move.

Digital Polygon is a WebOps oriented agency that lists search engine optimisation as one of five core services, alongside website design and development, digital marketing and content strategy, UX design, and website optimisation and maintenance. Drupal is a stated specialism, and the firm also markets HubSpot work and lists Acquia Community Partner status.

The partner credentials come with a caveat. Digital Polygon's own site presents its Drupal Certified Partner status at Silver level, while the Drupal Association's partner directory lists the firm at Gold tier. We are reporting both rather than choosing. What is consistent across sources is the Drupal Certified Migration Partner credential, and that is the interesting part anyway. Replatforming is where most Drupal organic traffic gets destroyed, and a firm that has formalised migration capability is a sensible place to start if a Drupal 7 or 9 end of life move is on your roadmap.

Client work named on the firm's own site includes Kids Eat in Color, cLabs, Alan Lescht and Associates P.C. and USHarbors. The firm publishes neither a founding year nor a physical address on the pages we reviewed, and its dedicated SEO service page returned no readable content, so the SEO offering is confirmed only from the services index. Ask for a detailed scope document early, and ask specifically how search work is priced inside a WebOps retainer.

Worst fit: buyers who want to see a deep, well documented SEO methodology before signing. The public evidence for the search practice is thinner than for the WebOps and migration work.

Frequently asked questions

Does Drupal need SEO work that WordPress does not?

Yes, in two directions. Drupal ships less SEO behaviour by default, so things WordPress plugins handle automatically must be configured explicitly: metadata patterns via Metatag, URL aliases via Pathauto, structured data via Schema.org Metatag, and redirects via the Redirect module. But Drupal also gives you far more control over entity types, taxonomies and Views, which means a site can generate enormous amounts of thin, near duplicate listing and term pages if nobody sets a policy. The work is not harder, it is more deliberate.

Which Drupal modules actually matter for SEO in 2026?

The practical core is Metatag, Pathauto, Redirect, Schema.org Metatag and a sitemap module such as Simple XML Sitemap. Beyond those, Google Tag or a tag management approach for measurement, and hreflang handling through Drupal's language negotiation if you are multilingual. Installing them is trivial. Configuring token patterns, canonical rules and schema mappings that match your content model is the actual job, and that is what you are paying an agency for.

How do I protect rankings during a Drupal 7 or 9 migration?

Crawl the old site fully before you touch anything, and export every indexed URL from Search Console and your analytics. Build a one to one redirect map, not a blanket rule that dumps everything to the homepage. Preserve URL structure where you can, and where you cannot, redirect at the page level. Keep the old site crawlable in a staging environment so you can diff templates, metadata and internal links after launch. Then monitor index coverage weekly for at least two months. Most migration traffic losses trace to redirect gaps and lost internal links, both of which are preventable.

Can a general SEO agency handle a Drupal site?

For content strategy, keyword research and link acquisition, often yes. For technical implementation, usually not without a Drupal developer in the loop. The failure mode is predictable: the agency delivers a competent audit full of recommendations that your internal team cannot action, and six months later nothing has shipped. If you hire a generalist, budget separately for Drupal development capacity to implement their findings, or hire a firm that has both.

How much should Drupal SEO cost?

It varies too much by scope to quote a single number honestly, and we are not going to invent a floor. The useful framing is this. A one off technical audit is a project cost. Ongoing search work is a retainer, and the retainer only makes sense if it includes implementation capacity or you have developers standing by. Be suspicious of any retainer that is purely advisory on a platform where the advice requires a developer to execute. Ask specifically how many implementation hours are included, and ask the agency for its own stated minimum engagement size rather than working from a range you read in a directory.

How much weight should I put on Drupal partner tiers?

Some, but less than the badges imply. Tiers reflect a mix of contribution credits, membership level and commercial commitment to the Drupal Association, not search competence. During research for this article we found firms whose own websites state a different tier from the one shown in the Drupal Association's directory. A tier is good evidence that a company invests in Drupal. It is not evidence that the same company will fix your canonical policy. Use it as a filter, then interrogate the SEO work itself.

Should I optimise for AI search and answer engines on Drupal?

Yes, and Drupal is well placed for it. Answer engines lean heavily on structured data and clear content hierarchy, both of which Drupal handles well once Schema.org Metatag is properly mapped to your content types. The practical steps are consistent entity markup, clean heading structure, factual and citable content, and internal linking that makes topical relationships explicit. Elevated Third has built answer engine optimisation into its published offering explicitly. Our own approach is covered on the AI SEO page.

Conclusion

The honest summary is that no single agency on this list is best at everything, and any list that claims otherwise is selling something.

If your problem is technical and lives inside Drupal, Specbee publishes the most specific description of that work, and OpenSense Labs has the deepest enterprise and migration adjacency. If your problem is commercial and your buyers are B2B, Elevated Third has the most current thinking about how discovery is changing. If you are a council or a university, Annertech's sector fit is worth more than another firm's larger logo wall. If a migration is looming, Digital Polygon's migration credential is the relevant signal. And if you are tired of coordinating a build agency, a content agency and a search agency who each blame the other two, that consolidation problem is the one we built eSEOspace to solve.

Whichever direction you go, do three things before you sign. Ask for a paid discovery or audit rather than committing to twelve months on the strength of a pitch deck. Ask exactly who implements the recommendations, by name and by hour. And ask for the source behind any number in the pitch, including the ones in this article, because on Drupal the difference between a good engagement and an expensive PDF is almost always whether someone with commit access is on the team.
