Wix vs GoDaddy Website Builder: pricing, features, SEO and ecommerce
Wix vs GoDaddy Website Builder: pricing, features, SEO and ecommerce

The first thing to know is that "GoDaddy Website Builder" is not the product it was. As of October 2026, GoDaddy's Website Builder page sells the Airo AI Builder, a tool where you describe what you want in a chat and the AI generates the site. The older template-based builder, Websites + Marketing, is still documented in GoDaddy's help center, but no Websites + Marketing plan or price appears on GoDaddy's US plans page.
So the comparison is now between two different ways of building. Wix is a visual editor with a large set of built-in business tools, and you make changes by clicking and dragging. GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder is prompt-first: you ask for changes, pay for AI work in monthly credits, and can download the code it writes. GoDaddy's paid plans start lower, at $9.99 per month billed annually against $17 for Wix, and each side includes things the other doesn't.
This article compares them on price, editing, SEO and selling, using each vendor's own pages.
Key Takeaways
- GoDaddy's Website Builder page now sells the Airo AI Builder. It has a free tier and paid plans at $9.99, $24.99 and $99.99 per month billed annually, as of October 2026.
- Wix's paid plans are $17, $29, $39 and $159 per month billed yearly, and each plan covers one site. GoDaddy's paid plans publish 1, 10 or 50 sites.
- Airo pricing is credit-based: 150, 300 or 750 AI credits a month on paid plans. Unused plan credits don't roll over.
- On Wix you edit visually and set SEO in menus. On Airo, structural changes and SEO fixes are made by prompt.
- Airo lets you download your project's code. A Wix site can't be exported.
- GoDaddy says digital downloads, subscriptions and marketplaces aren't supported on GoDaddy Payments for Airo AI Builder at this time. Wix Stores supports all three on plans that accept payments.
Which GoDaddy builder are we comparing?
GoDaddy's help center describes three ways to build a site with it, and they "work in different ways and come with different plans":
- Airo AI Builder. A standalone product with a free tier and paid plans, edited through "conversational prompts, manual editing and code-level editing." It builds websites and apps. This is what the page titled "GoDaddy Website Builder" sells today.
- Classic Websites + Marketing. The template-based builder: "Start with a template and make manual edits." GoDaddy still publishes help articles for it.
- Airo for WordPress. A separate product that comes with GoDaddy's Managed Hosting for WordPress.
We couldn't find current Websites + Marketing prices on GoDaddy's US plans page, and GoDaddy hasn't published a statement on that page about the product's future. If you already have a Websites + Marketing site, check your GoDaddy account for your plan and renewal price. The rest of this article compares Wix with the Airo AI Builder, and says so where a point is about the classic builder.
Pricing compared
US list prices in USD before tax, from wix.com/plans and GoDaddy's Website Builder page in October 2026, per month on yearly billing.
| Platform | Plan | Per month, billed yearly | Month-to-month | Sites and key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wix | Free | $0 | $0 | Wix ads; wixsite.com address |
| Wix | Light | $17 | Shown at checkout | 1 site; 2 GB storage; no payments |
| Wix | Core | $29 | Shown at checkout | 1 site; 50 GB; selling starts here |
| Wix | Business | $39 | Shown at checkout | 1 site; 100 GB |
| Wix | Business Elite | $159 | Shown at checkout | 1 site; unlimited storage |
| GoDaddy Airo | Free | $0 | $0 | 50 AI credits a month; build and preview |
| GoDaddy Airo | Starter | $9.99 | $19.99 | Publish 1 site; 150 AI credits a month |
| GoDaddy Airo | Professional | $24.99 | $49.99 | Publish 10 sites; 300 AI credits a month |
| GoDaddy Airo | Ultimate | $99.99 | $199.99 | Publish 50 sites; 750 AI credits a month |
What the numbers hide
- Per-site cost. A Wix plan is valid for one site. If you run several small sites, GoDaddy's Professional plan at $24.99 for up to 10 published sites is a different kind of deal.
- Credits. GoDaddy says each plan "includes a set of credits that power your building and app operations" and that credits "expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over." A month with heavy changes can use them up. You can buy more, but GoDaddy's public pages don't show the price of extra credits.
- Renewals. Neither vendor's public page shows a renewal price next to these figures. Wix says anything bought on sale renews at the standard rate. Check the renewal amount in the cart on both.

Features side by side
| Feature | Wix | GoDaddy Airo AI Builder |
|---|---|---|
| How you build | Visual editors; AI site creation available | Chat prompts, plus an Edit mode for text and images |
| Free tier address | wixsite.com address, published with Wix ads | airoapp.ai address; see note on publishing below |
| Code access | Velo for custom JavaScript; no site export | View and edit generated code; download project as a zip |
| Store | From Core; up to 50,000 products | Paid plan required to publish a store |
| Bookings | "Scheduling and services" listed from Core | Appointments with payments and deposits on paid plans |
A note on GoDaddy's free tier. GoDaddy's plan cards list publishing ("Publish 1 site") from the Starter plan up, and its help center says that when you downgrade to the free plan "your projects are unpublished and deactivated" until you upgrade to a paid plan again. Treat the free tier as a place to build and preview. Wix's free plan does publish, with limits we cover in what the free Wix plan can and can't do.
Building and editing
Wix
Wix has three editors. In the Wix Editor you drag elements anywhere on the page and adjust a separate mobile view. The Harmony Editor, released in January 2026, is automatically responsive and adds an AI assistant called Aria that can take actions in the editor. Wix Studio is the professional responsive editor. All three are visual: you see the page and change it directly. Wix can also generate a starting site with AI from details you provide.
GoDaddy Airo AI Builder
GoDaddy describes Airo this way: "There's no dashboard to learn, no drag-and-drop editor to figure out, no code to write." You describe the site by text or voice and the builder generates pages, databases and logic. Afterward there are two ways to change things. An Edit mode lets you select text, images and layout elements and change them without using credits. Anything bigger goes through the chat. GoDaddy's own agency guide puts it plainly: "Edit mode covers text and image swaps; structural changes go through chat."
That suits someone who would rather explain than arrange. It suits less well someone who wants to nudge a layout by hand, since layout changes are requests to the AI and "AI-powered changes use credits, including the ones that fix something."
SEO
Both platforms produce pages that search engines can read, with automatic sitemaps and editable titles and descriptions. How you control them differs.
| SEO item | Wix | GoDaddy Airo AI Builder |
|---|---|---|
| How you edit SEO | Settings panels per page and per page type | By prompt, for example "run an SEO audit" |
| Sitemap and robots.txt | Automatic; robots.txt editable in an editor | Automatic /sitemap.xml and /robots.txt |
| Structured data | Preset on some page types, plus custom JSON-LD | Added to every published page |
| 301 redirects | URL Redirect Manager, up to 5,000 per site | No manual redirect manager documented |
| Indexing on the free address | Wix says sites are crawlable whether or not they're upgraded | Sites on the default airoapp.ai address are excluded from search results |
Airo's approach is automation. GoDaddy says the builder scores search health from 0 to 100 on each publish and that a "Fix all issues" command adds missing titles, descriptions, alt text and structured data. Since May 2026, Airo sites render on the server.
Wix's approach is control. You set title and description patterns, edit canonical tags and robots meta tags, write your own structured data and manage redirects yourself. That matters most when you're moving an existing site with rankings to protect, because you need to map old URLs to new ones. We explain the built-in toolkit in Wix's built-in SEO tools explained.
Ecommerce
Wix
Selling on Wix starts at the Core plan ($29 per month billed yearly). The Light plan can't accept payments. Core and above include a catalog of up to 50,000 products, abandoned cart recovery, subscriptions through plans and recurring payments, and selling on marketplaces and social channels. Wix Payments in the US charges 2.9% + $0.30 for credit and debit cards other than American Express. Our Wix Stores guide covers the full feature set.
GoDaddy Airo AI Builder
All paid Airo plans list "Sell unlimited products and services," donations, and online booking with payments and deposits. The free plan can build and preview a store, but GoDaddy says "To publish and take real orders, you need a paid plan." Store setup with GoDaddy Payments is available in the United States and Canada.
The store setup arrived in September 2026, and GoDaddy states its current limits plainly:
- "Some e-commerce features like migrations, marketplaces, digital downloads or subscriptions are not supported on GoDaddy Payments for Airo AI Builder at this time."
- Stripe can be connected instead, but GoDaddy says businesses using Stripe "are not able to use native order management and catalog management functionality at the moment."
- An existing GoDaddy Online Store can't be migrated into Airo. You build a new store and add products again.
On fees, GoDaddy's Airo payments article says "GoDaddy Payments processing fees apply" and links to a general fee schedule that has no Airo-specific line. Confirm the rate in your account before you price products.
Portability and lock-in
Airo's code download is a point in its favor for anyone worried about being tied to one host. GoDaddy says you can "download your code anytime," and the export saves the project as a zip file for local backup, editing or use on other hosting products.
Wix works the other way. A Wix site must run on Wix's servers and can't be exported, though store products and CMS collections export to CSV.
Moving between the two is a rebuild in either direction. Even moving from GoDaddy's classic builder to Airo is a rebuild: GoDaddy says the result is "a fresh design rather than an exact copy" and that payments, the online store and integrations "aren't carried over." If you're going from GoDaddy to Wix, our GoDaddy to Wix migration guide lists the steps.
What changed in 2026
Airo AI Builder has changed month by month, which is worth knowing if you read an older review.
- March 2026: Professional and Ultimate plans went live.
- May 2026: server-side rendering, automatic sitemap.xml and robots.txt, and editing text and colors without credits.
- July 2026: bookings that take payment, and a custom domain on first publish.
- August 2026: invite, transfer and clone for projects.
- September 2026: online store setup with a Commerce tab.
On the Wix side, the main change was the Harmony Editor in January 2026.
Choose Wix if, choose GoDaddy if
Choose Wix if:
- You want to see and adjust the layout yourself, not describe it.
- You sell digital products or subscriptions, or want to sell on marketplaces.
- You're migrating a site and need a redirect manager and hands-on SEO settings.
- You want predictable plan limits based on storage, not AI credits.
Choose GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder if:
- You'd rather describe the site in plain language and let the AI build it.
- You run several small sites and want them under one plan.
- You want the lowest entry price and your needs are simple.
- You want to be able to download the code.
Conclusion
Wix and GoDaddy now represent two models: a visual editor with built-in business tools, and an AI builder you direct by chat and pay for partly in credits. Wix has the deeper store and more manual SEO control. GoDaddy's Airo has the lower entry price, multi-site plans and code download, with a store that launched in September 2026 and is still adding features. Try the free tier of each with your real content before paying. If you choose Wix and want it set up properly, see our Wix website services. More guides are in our Wix hub.
Frequently asked questions
Is GoDaddy Website Builder cheaper than Wix?
At the entry level, yes. As of October 2026, GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder Starter plan is $9.99 per month billed annually and Wix Light is $17 per month billed yearly. GoDaddy's price includes a monthly allowance of AI credits. Wix Light can't accept payments, so if you sell, compare Wix Core at $29 with the GoDaddy plan that fits.
Is GoDaddy Websites + Marketing still available?
GoDaddy's help center still documents Websites + Marketing, but as of October 2026 its US plans page lists the Airo AI Builder, Website Design Services and Managed Hosting for WordPress, with no Websites + Marketing plan or price. Existing customers should check their own account.
What are AI credits on GoDaddy?
Credits are used when you ask Airo's AI agents to do something, such as a chat request. Previewing, publishing, code edits and Edit-mode changes don't use credits. Plan credits renew monthly and don't roll over.
Can I move my GoDaddy site to Wix?
Not automatically. Wix says importing a site created outside of Wix isn't supported, so the move is a rebuild: recreate the pages, copy the content and redirect old URLs.
