Wix vs Framer: pricing, design, CMS and SEO compared

By: Irina Shvaya | October 5, 2026
This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

Wix and Framer aim at different jobs. Framer is a design tool that publishes websites: a freeform canvas, fine control over layout and motion, and a compact CMS. It suits marketing sites, portfolios and landing pages built by someone who thinks like a designer. Wix is a business platform with a website editor attached to a store, bookings, a members area and email marketing. It suits owners who need the site to do things as well as look good.

On price, Framer starts lower. As of October 2026, Framer's paid plans are $10 and $30 per month on yearly billing, against $17 to $159 for Wix. But Framer's plans cap pages, CMS items and bandwidth, charge per additional editor, and list no native store. A like-for-like comparison depends on what your site needs to contain.

This article compares the two on pricing, design, CMS, SEO and business features, using figures from each vendor's own pages.

Key Takeaways

  • As of October 2026, Framer is $10 (Basic) or $30 (Pro) per month on yearly billing, and $15 or $45 month-to-month. Wix is $17, $29, $39 or $159 per month billed yearly.
  • Framer plans have page and CMS caps: 30 pages and 1,000 CMS items on Basic, 150 pages and 2,500 CMS items on Pro, with paid add-ons on Pro.
  • Framer lists redirects, a staging environment and custom robots.txt on Pro, not Basic. Wix has a URL Redirect Manager with a 5,000-redirect limit and a Robots.txt Editor.
  • Framer's pricing page lists no native store, cart or checkout. Wix includes ecommerce from its Core plan.
  • Additional Framer editors cost $20 per editor per month on yearly billing. Wix plans include 2 to 100 collaborator seats.
  • Neither platform offers a simple export of a working site. Framer's own help articles disagree on whether published files can be downloaded.

Costs beyond the plan price

  • Framer editors. The workspace owner's seat is free and viewers are free. Additional editors are $20 per editor per month on yearly billing ($30 month-to-month). Content editors, who can update the CMS and edit on the page, are $10 per editor ($15 month-to-month). Basic and Pro allow at most 10 users with edit access.
  • Framer Pro overages. Pro is "pay what you use" past its base limits: on yearly billing, pages are $20 per 100 (700 maximum), CMS items $20 per 10,000 (40,000 maximum) and bandwidth $40 per 100 GB (2 TB maximum).
  • Wix collaborators. Seats are included: 2, 5, 10 or 100 depending on the plan.
  • Wix month-to-month. Wix's plans page shows yearly-billing prices only. The monthly-billing price appears at checkout.

Refunds and free domains

Wix offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on a first plan purchase. Framer's pricing page says customers in the EU or Turkey are legally eligible for a refund within 14 days of purchase. It doesn't state a general money-back guarantee, so US buyers should test on the free plan first. Both include a complimentary domain with yearly billing: Wix through a first-year voucher on selected yearly plans, Framer as a "complimentary domain included on yearly."

The Wix side of the pricing is covered in more depth in Wix plans compared.

Design and editing

Framer

Framer describes its editor as a "freeform canvas," closer to a design application than to a page builder. Layouts are built with auto-layout stacks and grids. The workflow is desktop-first at a default width of 1,200 pixels. You add tablet, phone or custom breakpoints, and each one inherits from the primary breakpoint and can override it.

Motion is a core strength. Framer's animations run on Motion, an open-source animation library, with no-code effects for layout animations, taps, drags and hovers. For more control, React code components and code overrides are available.

Wix

Wix spreads its range across three editors. The Wix Editor lets you place elements freely and tune a separate mobile view. The Harmony Editor, released in January 2026, is automatically responsive and has an AI assistant, Aria. The Studio Editor is the nearest equivalent to Framer: breakpoints, CSS grid and flexbox layout tools, five no-code animation types, custom CSS and a Figma plugin that imports designs. We compare the Wix options in Wix Studio vs the Wix Editor.

How they differ for a non-designer

If you already work in design tools, Framer will feel familiar and quick. If you don't, the standard Wix editors ask for less: you start from one of more than 2,000 templates and change what's there. Framer has templates too, sold or shared through its Marketplace and added to your account as a project.

CMS and content

Both have a CMS for structured content such as blog posts or case studies.

  • Framer: blogs are built on the CMS. Basic allows 2 collections and 1,000 items. Pro allows 10 collections and 2,500 items, expandable with add-ons to 40 collections and 40,000 items. Collection references are supported, and content can be added from a CSV file through Framer's AI agent.
  • Wix: the CMS allows 1,500 items on Light, 4,000 on Core, 20,000 on Business and 10,000,000 on Business Elite, counted across all collections. Wix Blog is a separate app. CMS collections import and export as CSV. See our guide to SEO for Wix CMS dynamic pages for how collections become pages.

Page counts matter on Framer, where each plan sets a limit. A 30-page ceiling on Basic is fine for a brochure site and tight for a business with many services and locations.

SEO

Both platforms serve pre-rendered HTML to search engines, generate a sitemap and robots.txt automatically, include SSL and let you set titles and descriptions per page.

SEO controlWixFramer
Titles and descriptionsPer page or by page-type pattern with variablesSite-wide, per page and for CMS pages with variables
robots.txtEditable in a Robots.txt EditorAuto-generated; a custom file can be uploaded on Pro and Enterprise
RedirectsUp to 5,000; CSV import of 500 at a timeOn Pro; wildcard rules, ordered by priority
Canonical tagsAutomatic and customizableGenerated from the connected domain; manual setting documented for reverse-proxy setups
Structured dataPreset on some page types, plus custom JSON-LDJSON-LD added through Custom Code
llms.txtGenerated for upgraded sites with a custom domainHosted as a static file on Pro and Enterprise

Three practical points follow from that table.

  • Redirects on Framer need the Pro plan. Framer's pricing page lists site redirects on Pro: "Add redirects to maintain search engine rankings." If you're moving an existing site onto Framer, budget for Pro so old URLs can point to new ones.
  • Renames need attention on both. Framer's help article says that if you change a path from the canvas or CMS, "it won't automatically update in your redirect settings," while its SEO page says Framer "automatically handles 301 redirects between old and new URLs." Test after any rename. On Wix, redirects are created automatically for several page types but not for blog posts, which need a manual redirect.
  • Wix has URL prefixes. Wix blog posts sit under a prefix that can be renamed but not removed, and product pages use /product-page/ by default.

Our broader view of the Wix side is in is Wix good for SEO.

Business features

Wix builds business tools into the platform. From the Core plan you can accept payments, run a store with up to 50,000 products, sell plans with recurring payments and recover abandoned carts. Wix also has a members area, bookings, events and built-in email marketing.

Framer's pricing page and CMS page list no native store, cart or checkout. "Ecommerce" appears as a category for templates and plugins in Framer's Marketplace, which suggests selling on a Framer site goes through a third-party tool. We also found nothing on Framer's own pages documenting native memberships, bookings or email marketing. That isn't proof none exists, so check Framer's current feature list if you need one of them.

Hosting and portability

Hosting is included with both. Framer says it's built on Amazon Web Services with a globally distributed edge network. Wix says its sites run on AWS, Google Cloud, Fastly and its own servers, with over 200 CDN nodes, and paid plans have unlimited bandwidth.

Neither is easy to leave.

  • Wix: a site must run on Wix's servers and can't be exported. Blog posts can't be exported. CMS collections and store products export to CSV.
  • Framer: one help article says "Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting." Another says every Framer site is published as standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript and that "you can download these files at any time," without describing how. Until Framer documents a procedure, plan as if there's no export. CMS content can be exported to CSV or JSON through plugins.

Moving from one to the other is a rebuild. Our Wix to Framer migration guide covers the steps and the redirect plan.

What changed in 2025 and 2026

  • October 9, 2025: Framer introduced new pricing and plan structures. Plans bought before then are "legacy plans" that keep their price and features.
  • May 27, 2026: Framer introduced a new billing system with a lower-priced Content Editor seat and the same full editor price across plans.
  • January 2026: Wix released the Harmony Editor alongside the Wix Editor.

Choose Wix if, choose Framer if

Choose Wix if:

  • You need a store, bookings, memberships or email marketing built in.
  • Your site will have a large CMS or many pages, beyond what Framer's plans allow.
  • Several people need edit access without paying per editor.
  • You're not a designer and want to start from a template and adjust.
  • You're migrating a site and want a redirect manager with a documented limit of 5,000 redirects.

Choose Framer if:

  • The site is a marketing site, portfolio or landing page where design and motion carry the message.
  • The person building it is a designer who wants a canvas, not a page builder.
  • Your page and CMS counts fit inside Basic or Pro.
  • You want staging and branching in the publishing workflow, with A/B testing as a paid add-on.
  • You don't need native selling, or you're happy to connect a third-party tool for it.

Conclusion

Framer and Wix are both capable, and they rarely suit the same project. Framer is the sharper tool for a design-led marketing site of modest size. Wix is the broader platform for a business that needs its website to sell, book and send email, with room for a large catalog or content library. List your pages, CMS items, editors and must-have features, then price both. If Wix is the fit and you want it built well, see our Wix website services. More guides are in our Wix hub.

Frequently asked questions

Is Framer cheaper than Wix?

For a small site with one editor, yes: Framer Basic is $10 per month on yearly billing and Wix Light is $17, as of October 2026. Framer's cost rises with extra editors ($20 each per month on yearly billing), locales, and Pro overages for pages, CMS items and bandwidth.

Can you sell products on Framer?

Framer's pricing page lists no native store, cart or checkout. Ecommerce appears in its Marketplace as a category of templates and plugins, so selling relies on third-party tools. Wix includes a store from its Core plan.

Is Framer good for SEO?

Framer covers the essentials: pre-rendered HTML, automatic sitemap and robots.txt, per-page titles and descriptions, and canonical tags. Redirects, custom robots.txt and llms.txt are listed for Pro and Enterprise. No platform guarantees rankings.

Can I export a Framer site?

Framer's help center gives two answers. One article says Framer doesn't offer HTML export for self-hosting. Another says published files can be downloaded at any time but gives no steps. Treat export as unavailable unless Framer support confirms a method for your site.
