Wix Studio vs Webflow: a comparison for designers and agencies

By: Irina Shvaya | October 5, 2026
This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

Wix Studio and Webflow are both visual builders aimed at professionals, and both give you CSS grid, flexbox, breakpoints, a CMS and a way to add code. The practical difference is where each one puts its weight. Wix Studio bundles business tools (stores, bookings, events, member areas, email marketing) and a server-side coding platform into one hosted product. Webflow stays closer to the front end: its Designer mirrors how CSS works, it can export static code, and it expects you to connect outside tools for things like memberships and email.

Neither is the better tool in general. A studio that builds booking and store sites for local businesses will get more out of Wix Studio. A team that hands code to developers, or needs to host the front end somewhere else, has options in Webflow that Wix does not offer. This comparison is written for designers and agencies; if you are a business owner choosing a platform, start with our broader Wix vs Webflow guide.

Key Takeaways

  • Wix Studio site plans are $19, $27, $34 and $159 per month on yearly billing, as of October 2026. Webflow's site plans are Basic at $15 and Premium at $25 per month on yearly billing, with a separate Workspace plan for the account.
  • Webflow retired its CMS and Business site plans on 13 May 2026 and replaced them with one Premium plan. Older comparisons that quote those plans are out of date.
  • A Wix site cannot be exported or hosted elsewhere. Webflow exports HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets on paid Workspace plans, but the export leaves out CMS content, ecommerce, forms handling and site search.
  • Wix Studio includes Velo, a JavaScript platform with a Node.js server-side runtime. Webflow's custom code runs in the browser only, with React code components and Webflow Cloud for app hosting.
  • Webflow shut down its native User Accounts (memberships) feature on January 29, 2026 and its Logic automation tool on June 27, 2025. Wix Studio keeps members areas and automations in the platform.
  • Webflow's own migration guide says moving from Wix "is a rebuild, not a transfer." The same is true in the other direction.

Pricing: two different models

Wix Studio charges one plan per site. Wix says "No additional payment is required to use Wix Studio"; you pay when you upgrade a site. Webflow bills two things separately: a Site plan for each live site, and a Workspace plan for the account you build in.

The table shows US list prices per month as of October 2026. Wix Studio shows yearly-billing prices only, paid in full up front; its month-to-month prices appear at checkout. Webflow publishes both.

Webflow Premium (site)$25/mo$39/mo20,000 CMS items, 40 Collections, 50 GB bandwidth

Both also sell enterprise tiers by quote. Check current figures on the Wix Studio plans page and the Webflow pricing page before you put a number in a proposal.

Three things change the real cost for an agency:

  • Webflow's Workspace plan. The Starter Workspace is free with 2 staging sites. For freelancers and agencies, the Freelancer plan is $16 per month and Agency is $35 per month, both on yearly billing. Code export, extra staging sites and client payments sit on these plans, not on Site plans.
  • Seats. A Webflow Workspace includes one full seat for the owner. Additional full seats are $39 per seat per month and limited seats $15, on yearly billing. Wix says there is no limit to the number of teammates in a Studio workspace, and its public plan pages list no per-teammate price.
  • Bandwidth. All Wix Studio plans list unlimited bandwidth. Webflow Premium includes 50 GB, with paid add-ons from an extra 50 GB at $20 per month on yearly billing.

If you manage older Webflow sites, note that the May 2026 plan change reaches sites in Freelancer or Agency Workspaces, and sites on pre-2023 legacy pricing, from 16 November 2026. For the Wix side, including the non-Studio plans, see Wix plans compared.

Layout and responsive design

Both editors are built on CSS grid and flexbox, so a designer who understands one will recognize the other. The differences are in breakpoints and in how much the tool does for you.

Wix StudioWebflow
Default breakpointsDesktop 1001px and up, Tablet 751px to 1000px, Mobile 320px to 750pxDesktop base; Tablet 991px and below, Mobile landscape 767px and below, Mobile portrait 479px and below
Additional breakpointsCustom sizes can be added, per page and per global sectionThree larger ones can be enabled: 1280px, 1440px, 1920px. Once added, a larger breakpoint can't be removed
CascadeDesktop design "trickles down to tablet and mobile", with per-breakpoint overridesStyles cascade in both directions from desktop
Layout toolsStacks, ready-made flexbox layouts, advanced CSS gridFlexbox, grid, and Quick Stack with 8 preset layouts
AI assistanceResponsive AI adapts a desktop section to other breakpoints; you can preview and discard itAI site builder generates structure, content and a theme for new sites only

Webflow's documentation lists fixed breakpoint values only, so if a project depends on an unusual breakpoint, confirm what is possible before you commit. In Wix Studio, viewports outside your defined breakpoint ranges are not optimized, so define the ranges deliberately. If you are still deciding between Wix's own editors, our comparison of Wix Studio and the Wix Editor covers that choice.

CMS

Both platforms store structured content in collections and render it through template pages and lists.

  • Wix Studio: CMS item limits count across all collections on a site: 1,500 on Basic, 4,000 on Standard, 20,000 on Plus and 10,000,000 on Elite. A single item can hold up to 512 KB across its non-media fields. Collections import from and export to CSV. Wix's CMS limits article gives no maximum number of collections.
  • Webflow: the CMS is on the Premium site plan, with 20,000 items and 40 Collections. The Basic plan is described as "for simple sites that don't need a CMS", and the free Starter site allows 50 items. Non-Enterprise plans allow up to 10 reference fields per Collection, depending on the plan. Collections import from and export to CSV.

At the 20,000-item mark the two are close on price: Studio Plus at $34 and Webflow Premium at $25 per month, both on yearly billing, before any Webflow Workspace cost. Beyond that, Wix's next step is Elite. Webflow's published plans, including its Team plan, list 20,000 items, so a larger site means a conversation with Webflow's sales team. For how Wix collection pages behave in search, see SEO for Wix CMS dynamic pages.

Interactions and animation

Wix Studio offers five no-code animation types: entrance, hover, click, scroll and loop, with preset or custom effects. It also supports Lottie files through a LottieFiles JSON URL, and custom CSS animations.

Webflow has two interaction systems side by side. "Interactions with GSAP" launched in summer 2025, is the default on new sites and uses the GSAP animation engine, with built-in SplitText, Staggers, ScrollTrigger and a horizontal timeline. Classic interactions remain available, but Webflow says the GSAP version is the only one that will be compatible with new features. Webflow also documents Lottie and Rive control inside interactions, and interactions can travel with components across sites.

Code access and export

This is the clearest split between the platforms.

Wix StudioWebflow
Custom CSSA global.css file in the Code panel, with custom classes and media queriesClass-based styling in the Designer, plus CSS in custom code
JavaScriptVelo, with a server-side runtime based on Node.js, NPM packages and HTTP functionsBrowser-side code in head, body and embed fields, up to 50,000 characters each; no server-side languages in embeds
Developer workflowWix IDE (based on VS Code), GitHub integration and a CLIDevLink for React components, code components, and Webflow Cloud for apps built with frameworks such as Next.js
ExportNot possible; the site must run on Wix's serversHTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets as a ZIP, on paid Workspace plans

Webflow's export has documented gaps. Per its code export article, CMS content, Ecommerce, code components and localized pages are not included, and site search and forms will not work on an exported site. Export is also all-or-nothing. It suits static marketing sites; it is not a way to move a CMS site off Webflow intact.

Built-in business features

Wix Studio sites can use Wix's native business tools: online stores, bookings and scheduling, events and ticketing, restaurants, a members area with pages limited to specific roles or paying members, automations, and email marketing with 200 free emails a month. Payments start on the Standard plan.

Webflow covers ecommerce through separate Ecommerce site plans, starting with Standard at $29 per month on yearly billing, which allows 500 ecommerce items and carries a 2% Webflow transaction fee on top of Stripe or PayPal fees. For memberships and automation, Webflow now points to third-party tools: User Accounts was sunset on January 29, 2026, and Logic on June 27, 2025. Email marketing is not native either.

Client handoff and agency tools

Wix StudioWebflow
Client accessExternal site collaborators by plan: 3, 5, 10 or up to 100. Studio sites have 5 free collaborator seats while owned by a Studio accountFree client seats on freelancer and agency Workspaces: 1 per site on Freelancer, 3 per site on Agency; more cannot be purchased
Client billingA payment request lets the client pay Wix directly; requires being a Wix PartnerClient payments on Freelancer and Agency plans; the client pays Webflow directly

One Wix detail to plan for: if a Studio site is transferred to a non-Studio account, the free collaborator seats drop from 5 to 1 until the site is upgraded. Our guide to transferring ownership of a Wix site walks through what moves and what does not.

Choose Wix Studio if, choose Webflow if

Choose Wix Studio if:

  • Your clients need stores, bookings, events or member areas, and you want them in one platform.
  • You want server-side code without running separate hosting.
  • You want unlimited teammates without per-seat pricing, and Partner revenue share on yearly plans.
  • Your clients are comfortable staying on Wix hosting long term.

Choose Webflow if:

  • You need to export front-end code or hand React components to a development team.
  • Advanced, timeline-based motion is a core part of your design work.
  • Your projects are mostly marketing sites, and you are happy to connect outside tools for memberships, email and automation.
  • You want month-to-month prices published before checkout.

If you already have a Wix site and are weighing a move, our guide to migrating from Wix to Webflow explains the rebuild involved.

Conclusion

Wix Studio and Webflow overlap in layout and CMS, and differ in what surrounds them. Studio gives an agency a full business platform and a server-side code layer, with no way to take the site elsewhere. Webflow gives finer front-end control, code export for static sites and a developer workflow built around React, and leaves memberships, email and automation to other tools. Match the platform to the kind of client work you do most. If you'd like a second opinion on a Wix Studio build, or help delivering one, see our Wix website services. More guides are in our Wix hub.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wix Studio cheaper than Webflow?

It depends on the project. As of October 2026, a Webflow Premium site is $25 per month on yearly billing against $34 for Wix Studio Plus, both with 20,000 CMS items. Webflow agencies may also need a Workspace plan and paid seats, while Wix says no additional payment is required to use Wix Studio. Price each project on both before deciding.

Can I export a Wix Studio site?

No. Wix states that a site must be hosted and operated on Wix's servers. You can export CMS collections, store products and redirects as CSV files, but not the design, pages or blog posts.

Does Webflow's code export include CMS content?

No. Webflow's export includes HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets, but CMS content, Ecommerce, code components and localized pages are left out, and forms and site search stop working. CMS Collections can be exported separately as CSV.

Can I move a site from Wix Studio to Webflow automatically?

No. Webflow's own guide says there is "no automated way to convert a Wix site into a Webflow site." Content in CMS collections can move by CSV, and the design is rebuilt by hand, with 301 redirects set up for any URLs that change.
