Wix vs Canva Websites: what Canva sites can and can't do

By: Irina Shvaya | October 5, 2026
This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

Canva Websites turns a Canva design into a live web page. If you already design in Canva and need a good-looking one-page site, a portfolio, an event page or a simple brochure site of a few pages, it is fast and may cost you nothing extra. It is a publishing feature inside a design tool, though, and Canva's help pages describe no blog, no store, no content database and only a short list of search engine settings.

Wix is a website platform. It costs more and takes longer to learn, and in exchange you get a blog, a store, bookings, lead forms tied to a contact database, and detailed SEO controls. If your website needs to bring in customers and grow over time, that is the gap that matters.

Where Canva's own pages do not address a feature, this guide says so plainly instead of guessing.

Key Takeaways

  • Canva Websites is part of a Canva subscription, not a separate product. As of October 2026, Canva Free is $0, Canva Pro is $144 per year for one person (or $18 per month on monthly billing), and Canva Business is $250 per year per person (or $25 per month).
  • Canva Free users can publish five websites on a free my.canva.site address, with a "Designed with Canva" footer that can't be removed on the free plan.
  • A Canva multi-page website supports up to 45 pages, with up to 20 sections per page on paid plans and 10 published sections per page on Canva Free.
  • Canva documents site-level and page-level titles, page descriptions, custom URL paths and a site-wide search visibility switch. Its website help does not mention sitemaps, redirects, canonical tags or structured data.
  • Canva states that on Canva Websites form "responses are always anonymous. Names can't be collected." Wix Forms saves each submission as a contact.
  • Wix paid plans run from $17 to $159 per month on yearly billing, as of October 2026. Taking payments starts at the Core plan, $29 per month.

What Canva Websites is

Canva describes the feature as a way to "create, publish, and manage responsive websites without coding, right inside the Canva editor." A website is a Canva design. You start from a website template or a blank website design, add text, photos, videos, graphics and embeds from the side panel, and publish.

The structure is simple. "Add section" adds a block within a page, and "Add page" adds a new page, which appears as a separate scrollable page on the same site. Internal links are made by selecting text or an element and choosing a page in the document. A navigation menu can be turned on in settings and styled.

Two things work differently from most website builders. First, edits do not go live on their own: Canva says "You can still edit your website after it's live. Republish it to reflect the changes." Second, any existing Canva design can be published as a website after resizing, which is handy for turning a presentation or a one-page flyer into a web page.

Pricing

These are US list prices as of October 2026. The two companies bill differently: Canva charges per person for a design subscription that happens to include websites, and Wix charges per website. Wix shows only yearly-billing prices publicly; its monthly-billing prices appear at checkout.

PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthlyWhat it means for a website
Canva Free$0$0Five sites on a free Canva address, with a Canva footer
Canva Pro$144 per year, one person$18 per monthCustom domains and unlimited websites
Canva Business$250 per year, per person$25 per month, per personTeam plan; can connect existing domains

Wix Light$17 per month ($204 paid up front)Shown at checkoutCustom domain, no Wix ads, no payments
Wix Core$29 per month ($348 paid up front)Shown at checkoutAdds payments and store features

Sources: Canva's pricing page and Wix's plans page. Wix also sells Business Elite at $159 per month on yearly billing.

The fair comparison for a simple site on your own domain is Canva Pro at $144 per year against Wix Light at $204 per year. Canva Pro is cheaper and also includes the full Canva design tool. Wix Light includes a website platform with more features, and Wix lists a one-year free domain voucher with paid plans bought yearly. Neither price includes the domain's ongoing yearly fee.

A note on plan names: Canva's team tier is now called Business, and Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups, but several Canva help articles still say "Teams". Where a feature below is listed for "Pro, Teams and Education", that is Canva's wording; on Canva Business, confirm it in your account.

Canva states the 45-page limit without tying it to a plan. The figures come from Canva's Canva Websites help page.

The free Wix plan has different limits: 500 MB of storage, Wix ads and no custom domain. Our guide to what the free Wix plan can and can't do has the details.

Design and mobile

Design is where Canva is at its best. You are working in the same editor you use for social posts and presentations, with the same brand colors, fonts, photos and graphics, and an "Animate" option for pages, text and elements. If your brand already lives in Canva, a site can match it closely with very little effort.

For phones, Canva has a "Resize on mobile" setting that will "automatically adjust your design for mobile screens", and a Mobile Preview panel that shows a live mobile view while you edit. Canva's marketing page states that all Canva websites are mobile responsive. Canva does not document a way to arrange the mobile layout by hand, so preview carefully.

Wix offers more than 2,000 templates. In the classic Wix Editor you place elements freely and adjust a separate mobile view, which is more control and more work.

Domains

Canva gives you three places to publish: a free Canva address, a domain bought through Canva, or a domain you already own.

  • Free address: sites publish to a my.canva.site address.
  • Existing domain: Canva says Pro, Teams and Business users can connect up to five existing domains at a time, and publish unlimited websites on them using a subpath. Verification can take up to 72 hours. You can also connect a subdomain, such as blog.example.com, so an existing main site is unaffected.
  • Domain bought through Canva: Canva is a reseller of Tucows domains. Canva's FAQ says a domain "can cost you between $10 and $20 per year", with prices varying by extension. Domains last one year, renew automatically and include WHOIS privacy.

Canva states that all Canva websites use HTTPS.

Canonical tags and structured dataNot mentionedSet automatically; both can be customized
Image alt textYes, added in the editor, up to 250 characters; Canva's list of outputs that carry alt text does not name published websitesYes

Canva's per-page title, URL path and description are labeled a "New Feature" in its help, and they cover the basics a small site needs. The settings are described in Canva's website settings article.

"Not mentioned" does not prove a feature is absent; Canva may handle some of these automatically. What is clear is that Canva documents no way to manage them. If you rename a page path, there is no documented redirect from the old address, and the only documented search switch hides the whole site.

On Wix these are standard tools. See Wix SEO settings for titles and descriptions, and how to set up 301 redirects on Wix for URL changes.

Analytics and tracking

Canva has a built-in report called Website Insights, which Canva lists for Pro, Teams and Education users with edit access to the design. It shows total visitors, visits by country, device breakdown, top sources, link clicks and visits per page.

Google Analytics can be connected by entering a GA4 Measurement ID in the publish settings. Canva's Google Analytics article says this "is limited to paid users with custom domains; free Canva subdomains are blocked." It also says that once Google Analytics is on, "you become responsible for obtaining visitor consent before tracking begins", and Canva lets you add a cookie consent banner from the Publish panel. Privacy rules vary by location, and this is not legal advice; ask an attorney if you are unsure what applies to you.

Canva does not document a way to add other tracking code, such as an advertising pixel or Google Tag Manager, to a standard Canva website. If you plan to run paid ads and measure conversions, that is a limit to weigh. Wix connects Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads and the Meta Pixel through its Marketing Integrations on a paid site with a connected domain, and has its own analytics reports.

Forms, blog, store and other business features

Canva's website help hub lists guides for design, publishing, domains, settings, insights and Google Analytics. It lists no blog or post feature, no product catalog, no checkout and no membership feature. Canva publishes no ecommerce plan or payment processing rate for websites.

Canva does have forms. Canva forms and quizzes can be added to designs, and responses can be downloaded as a CSV file. For lead generation, one line in Canva's help matters: "On Canva Websites, responses are always anonymous. Names can't be collected." Read Canva's current forms documentation before you build a contact or quote form on a Canva site, and test it end to end.

Wix covers these with built-in apps:

  • Forms and contacts: every Wix Forms submission creates a contact, and the site owner gets an email notification by default. See Wix Forms and the built-in CRM.
  • Blog: Wix Blog, with its own SEO settings.
  • Store: Wix Stores, with up to 50,000 products from the Core plan.
  • Bookings, events and members areas as native apps.
  • Email marketing: 200 emails a month free.

Choose Canva Websites if, choose Wix if

Choose Canva Websites if:

  • You need a one-page site, portfolio, event page, link page or small brochure site.
  • You already pay for Canva and your brand assets live there.
  • Visual design matters more to you than search traffic or lead tracking.
  • The site will rarely change structure, so redirects are unlikely to matter.

Choose Wix if:

  • You need a blog, a store, bookings or forms that feed a contact list.
  • You rely on Google search and want control over redirects, indexing and structured data.
  • You run ads and need conversion tracking.
  • You expect the site to grow past a few dozen pages.

Conclusion

Canva Websites is a quick, low-cost way to publish a well-designed page, and for a portfolio or a simple brochure site it can be all you need. Wix is the better fit once the site has work to do: ranking in search, capturing leads, selling, or publishing content regularly. Decide by what the site must do in its first year, not by which editor feels easier in the first hour. Frequently asked questions

Are Canva websites free?

Yes, with limits. Canva Free users can publish five websites on a free my.canva.site address, with up to 10 published sections per page and a "Designed with Canva" footer. Custom domains and unlimited websites require a paid Canva plan.

Can I use my own domain with a Canva website?

Yes, on a paid plan. Canva says Pro, Teams and Business users can connect up to five existing domains at a time, and verification can take up to 72 hours. You can also buy a domain through Canva.

Are Canva websites good for SEO?

They cover the basics: a site title, page titles, page descriptions, custom URL paths and HTTPS. Canva's website help does not mention redirects, sitemaps, canonical tags, structured data or page-level search visibility, so there is less you can adjust than on Wix.

Can I sell products on a Canva website?

Canva documents no product catalog or checkout for Canva Websites, and publishes no payment processing rate. If you need an online store, Wix Stores is available from the Wix Core plan, at $29 per month on yearly billing as of October 2026.
