Wix storage and bandwidth limits by plan

This guide is part of our Wix resource hub: whether Wix fits, what it costs, SEO and speed, security, and guides for moving to or away from Wix.

As of October 2026, Wix storage by plan is: Free up to 500MB, Light 2 GB, Core 50 GB, Business 100 GB and Business Elite unlimited. Bandwidth is unlimited on all four paid plans and capped at up to 1GB on the free plan. Wix Studio plans have their own figures: Basic 10 GB, Standard 50 GB, Plus 120 GB and Elite unlimited, all with unlimited bandwidth.

Storage is the space your uploaded files take up: images, videos, audio and documents. Bandwidth is the data your visitors use when they load your pages; Wix defines it as "how much data your visitors can view at a certain time." For a paid site, storage is the only one of the two you need to watch, and for most business sites it only becomes tight on the Light plan or when you upload a lot of video.

Key Takeaways

  • Paid Wix plans all have unlimited bandwidth. Only the free plan has a bandwidth cap, at up to 1GB.
  • Storage steps up sharply between Light (2 GB) and Core (50 GB).
  • Storage belongs to the site, not the account. Each site's plan sets that site's limit.
  • Every file you upload counts, including videos uploaded to Online Programs.
  • If a plan ends and the limit drops to 500MB, the site keeps running, but you can't upload more until you remove files or upgrade.
  • Wix's current plans page doesn't list a video-hours allowance, so don't rely on articles that quote one.

Storage and bandwidth on each Wix plan

PlanPrice per month, billed yearlyStorageBandwidth
Free$0Up to 500MBUp to 1GB
Light$172 GBUnlimited
Core$2950 GBUnlimited
Business$39100 GBUnlimited
Business Elite$159UnlimitedUnlimited

Prices are from the Wix plans page as shown to US visitors in October 2026, in USD before tax. They are for yearly subscriptions paid in full at purchase. Storage and bandwidth figures are from Wix's storage and bandwidth article.

A note on the free plan's bandwidth: one Wix help page about refunds says 500MB, while two others say up to 1GB. We use 1GB, the figure in the article dedicated to the topic. Wix also says it will let you know if a free site comes close to exceeding its data transfer limits. The other free-plan restrictions are covered in what the free Wix plan can and can't do.

Wix Studio plans

Sites built in the Studio Editor use Studio plans, which are a separate set and not interchangeable with the plans above.

Studio planPrice per month, billed yearlyMedia storageBandwidth
Basic$1910 GBUnlimited
Standard$2750 GBUnlimited
Plus$34120 GBUnlimited
Elite$159UnlimitedUnlimited

Free Wix Studio sites and free Wix Partner sites include 10GB of storage until they're upgraded. If you're not sure which editor your site uses, see Wix Studio vs the Wix Editor.

What counts toward your storage

Wix's rule is simple: every image, video, audio file or other file you upload counts toward your site's total storage limit. That includes:

  • Photos and graphics in the Media Manager, whether or not they're placed on a page.
  • Videos you upload, including background videos and videos uploaded to Online Programs.
  • Audio files and documents such as PDFs.

Two things worth understanding:

Storage is per site. Wix states that the plan assigned to a site determines how much media storage that specific site can have. Two sites in one account don't share a pool.

Embedded video doesn't use your storage in the same way. A video hosted on a video platform and embedded on your page lives on that platform's servers. Only files you upload to Wix use Wix storage.

Bandwidth today: what "unlimited" covers

Bandwidth used to be a headline limit on website builders. On Wix's current paid plans it isn't one: Light, Core, Business and Business Elite all list unlimited bandwidth, as do all four Studio plans. A busy month or a post that gets shared widely won't take a paid site offline for exceeding a data allowance.

The free plan is the exception, with up to 1GB. That's enough for a small site with light traffic and can run short on a media-heavy one. Wix doesn't publish, on the pages we checked, exactly what a visitor sees if a free site goes over, so if your free site matters to your business, that uncertainty is itself a reason to upgrade.

Unlimited bandwidth is not the same as fast pages. Large images and autoplay video still slow a page down for each visitor, whatever your plan. That's covered in why your Wix site is slow, and how to fix it.

What about video hours?

You'll find articles that quote a number of "video hours" for each Wix plan. As of October 2026, video hours are not listed on Wix's plans page or in its storage article. What Wix does state is that videos uploaded to your site use your site storage.

So plan around gigabytes, not hours. A long, high-resolution video can be several gigabytes on its own, which would fill the Light plan's 2 GB with a single file. If your site depends on video, check the storage figure on the plan you're buying, and look at the upgrade screen in your own dashboard for any video-specific allowance before you assume there is or isn't one.

Upload size limits per file

Separate from total storage, each file type has a maximum size. These are from Wix's supported media file types article, as of October 2026.

File typeMaximum size per file
Images50MB (another Wix page says images over 25MB can't be uploaded, so keep originals under 25MB)
GIFs15MB
Videos and background videos4GB (recommended resolution 1920 x 1080px)
Wix Video app15GB per video
Audio (Wix Audio Player)50MB
Wix Music360MB
Documents1000MB
Archives4000MB
Vector art (SVG)250KB, with no embedded images
Icons (ICO)25MB
3D files (.gltf, .glb)25MB

Store products have their own limits. A product video can be up to 50 MB, and digital product files can be up to 1 GB for documents and ZIP files, 100 MB for audio and 50 MB for images.

Wix converts images automatically to the AVIF format on your live site, which keeps what visitors download small. More on that in image SEO on Wix.

How to check how much storage you've used

  1. Go to Settings in your site's dashboard.
  2. Click Manage Storage.
  3. Review how much of your storage is used.

You can also see it in the Media Manager: total used storage shows at the bottom left, and hovering over the Info icon shows the space you have left.

What happens when storage is full

Wix describes the downgrade case clearly. After a plan ends, the limit drops to 500MB. If your site is over that, "it will continue to run as normal. However, to add or upload additional media files, you'll need to either remove files or upgrade." Your existing files aren't deleted and your pages keep working; you just can't add more.

In practice, that means a full site blocks the next task that needs an upload: a new blog post image, a product photo, a PDF menu. It tends to surface at an inconvenient moment, so check your usage before a big content push.

Separately, when a paid plan lapses the site stays online on its free Wix address with Wix ads, and any connected custom domain is disconnected. That's a bigger problem than storage, and it's covered in how to cancel a Wix plan and get a refund.

How to free up space

For each file, Wix offers Preview, Download, Move to Trash and Permanently Delete.

  1. Start with video. Video files are far larger than photos or documents, so a few of them can account for most of the space.
  2. Download anything you might want later. Keep your own copy before you remove it from Wix.
  3. Check where a file is used before deleting it. Wix warns that permanently deleting a file also removes it from the live site and can't be undone.
  4. Remove duplicates and old drafts. Multiple uploads of the same photo at different crops add up.
  5. Resize before you upload. A photo straight from a camera or phone is far larger than a web page needs. Export at the size you'll display it.
  6. Host long videos elsewhere and embed them if you don't need them inside a Wix app.

Which plan to choose for storage

  • Light (2 GB) suits a brochure site with photos and a few documents. It's tight for any uploaded video.
  • Core (50 GB) is the practical minimum for a store, a portfolio with high-resolution work, or a site with some uploaded video. It's also the first plan that accepts payments.
  • Business (100 GB) suits larger catalogs and regular video uploads.
  • Business Elite (unlimited) suits media libraries, courses and sites where storage shouldn't be a planning constraint.

Storage is rarely the only difference that matters between tiers. Collaborator seats, forms, ecommerce features and tax automation change too; our Wix plans comparison sets them side by side. Upgrades take effect immediately, and Wix credits the unused time on your current plan.

Conclusion

For a paid Wix site, bandwidth is no longer something to manage, and storage is generous from Core upward. The two situations to watch are the Light plan's 2 GB and any site that uploads video directly. Check your usage under Manage Storage, clear out large files you no longer need, and choose a plan by gigabytes, since Wix's plans page doesn't list video hours.
